My uncle worked at Vandenberg. He was an OIC at one of the tracking antennas. His family lived in Lompoc. He would talk about the various launches at Vandenberg, but also launches from Cape Canaveral. In the early days, before accurate worldwide tracking was available, when a satellite was launched from Canaveral, sometimes they wouldn't have any indication that the satellite had entered orbit until it came all the way around the Earth to where antennas at Vandenberg would hear the signal. Vandenberg would then wire or radio a message to Canaveral to let them know it was a success, or not.

The immense speed those come in at is impressive. Plasma trails and all. Incredible accuracy. Also hitting land or water produces the same impact (and bright flash) at those speeds.

Never seen an impact on land from a "Glory Trip" lanch out of Vandenberg. All the ones I've seen were water impacts

Crazy to let this system go, particularly when the US was left with 40-50 year old missiles which were far less capable Surely it would be more cost effective to upgrade the LGM-118 design than go back to the drawing board with sentinel?!?
