LARP | Foam Weapon Line Battles
This is the first of the Day of the Ditch, Ditching videos held at the Amtgard park of Inland Ocean In Redmond Washington.
The first dead on the winning team moves to the losing team. In this way the game is self balancing.
This was a special day event dedicated to ditching and the knighting of Rafeal. Several of Amtgard’s top fighters were on the field that day. As you’ll see it gets a little chaotic when there are so many people fighting at once.

LARP | Weega's Take on the Amtgard Community
Something I’ve wondered for a while now. Is there an etiquette to line ditching in Amtgard? You see, years ago myself and two of my friends, all skirmish fighters from Astral Winds moved to the Olympia area in Washington. At the time the local park was dead except for a large group that would travel to different lands in the state each week. When that group was in town we had lined up for a ditch and after lay on I took a quick survey of the field and we opted for a flanking push, absolutely rolled it and the enemy team. And much to our surprise they were pissed, absolutely pissed at us. "That’s not how you fight!" They yelled, and treated us like crap the rest of the day. To this day I still have no clue what they were going on about.
Sorry you had such a bad experience. etiquette can be regional, the game is so big, but in my experience flanking a team is not shunned upon but I am limited to mostly the Pacific Northwest. Now, running wide around a flank, not engaging them, and backstabbing after you've gone unnoticed because you won't engage, that can cause a ripple. But that doesn't sound like what you did. If you're in the Olympia area again, I suggest you give the park another try. They have flourished in the last few years and is a thriving park. They even have a warlord or two fighting out of there.
@@Baelnorn oh I will. Looks like an entirely different crew nowadays, top that off if my friend Sir Pyro likes them they can be bad. ^_^
Damn dagon and crit is scary
They sure can be!
yall need a bigger place to fight in looks good much love
The pit was pretty small! We made it work though.
Why do you not use real larp swords?
The speed and power in which we swing with in this LARP would cause bruising if we used latex based weapons.
We had something similar to this towards the beginning of this reign. Interactions with monsters, bandits, even a black dragon, and other player groups.
That sounds really fun! I hope it went well.
Love seeing Matrix, Devry, Skorry, and Louie out there.
Me too! They are good peoples.
Died to the ol high cross
Highcross #1 in the hood G. but really great time at the event. Super cool peeps in yalls area.
@@DeathLilly1355 I'm glad the camera audio caught your reaction to the highcross, it was gold. I'm glad you enjoyed your time and made the long trip to visit.
No malintent meant here to Jayme but this is exactly why bearpits should not count towards warlord numbers, and why we shouldnt really count streaks like this. Notice neither Carlos, nor myself ever were in his ring. Two of the top 3 fighters never got to fight him in this run. 1 washed up warlord who was out of practice, one that was only using a single sword, (All the same company) were there giving him troubles, but his win was not predominantly increasing in caliber as a d.e. tournament would generate making us fight stiffer competition every round and ultimately fighting the best repeatedly throughout a streak. Love the videos, don't stop posting them, but this isn't the right context of a streak...and yes you said kill count, but the significance of the number recognition could definitely be taken as relevant to the w.l. streak number
I understand what you're getting at. I only highlighted it because, well, it's TH-cam and it gives people a reason to watch it more. Which worked by the way, watch time was up! Also there was a local warlord in the mix, not that it invalidates your observation, but Devry did fight him and lost. A bearpit is different than the escalating difficulty you find in the standard bracketed tournament. It is worth having the discussion!
@clalibus this really highlights why streaks should count. Diego, yourself nor any other warlord streaked more than 10. Deathlilly took people to the paint and did so 21 times. Pretty impressive.
Grand Marquis is still really difficult to get.
It is and the requirements are a weird one. It can also be slightly different from kingdom to kingdom.
Way back when I came up with the idea for what Neverwinter put in its initial corpora. AFAIK it was the the first instance of it but havent researched it. I just wanted something that reflected a renaissance amtgarder who wore all the (job) hats at some point.
I wish Amtgard had more incentive to bring RP a little more forward. And now I wish there was a Bel park here in EP.
I don't know, compared to Bel, I think Amtgard has more incentives to RP, people just don't as much. Honestly RP in Amtgard varies by region and goes in waves, at least in my experience. It can be hard when you want to RP but other people don't. :(
The answer to Critias question is fancy hats. People always respect a fancy hat.
Fancy hats are always the answer.
The way i've had the noble titles explained is they are the griffins of the crown path. The only things i've been able to do with it though are pull rank in a flurby battlegame and have a man at arms.
I've never heard it explained that way, but the analogy is sound. But yah, they don't do much out side of roleplay and taking a man at arms.
Dagger is a great resource for this.
This was the first time I met him! He certainly sounded well versed in the subject. I liked that he was fairly concise.
His single stick looks like Darth Vader in his suit
Likened to a powerful force user? I'll take it.
@@Baelnorn yup
Talk about a blast from the past, like being in Austin in the mid-90s.
Live Action Roleplay. In Amtgard the rp is optional so its no Larp. Classes and that make no roleplay or would you call a shooter with classes a rpg? Obviously not.
I would say that dressing up, creating an alternative identity and pretending your hitting people with weapons and casting magic, is Roleplaying. Granted, Amtgard is not very heavy in it's roleplay, I'll give you that, but I would still say you're roleplaying. What would you call it if not a LARP?
@@Baelnorn Id call it a boffer sport. I like to compare it to airsoft, you also dress up, fight with simulated weapons, tend to use call signs and all that, some actually do play a character and some games include roleplay elements but the whole thing is just a sport since all these elements are optional. There are Larps that do use airsoft weapons so the kind of weapon doesnt even matter. It has to be both, Live Action AND Roleplay, Amtgard and Airsoft are live action, but not roleplay, at least not required or if anything its an afterthought. Perhaps you could call it a Boffer sport +. Now i wouldnt compare it to paintball because thats even more focused on the sport and rp elements are discouraged most of the times. In the larp or boffer sport discussion id put stuff like Jugger and similar in that category. Amtgard is not that extreme, but id say its closer to jugger than to the average nordic or german rp heavy larp.
I don't know, how you describe how they airsoft sounds like a LARP too, lol.
Huge W for Torg. Bet a beer in his defense and will forever remember his glorious stand at some local park.
Either I dont understand the rules or the guy with the blue and black shirt is cheating all the time lol
It's possible he's cheating, cheating happens on occasion. Do you have a time stamp of a fight where you think he's cheating? I can take a look, see if he's cheating and explain the fight if he's not.
You shuld make a short on it or sum.@Baelnorn
@@Baelnorn For example: 0:36 left sword strike of his opponent hit his left hand but he keeps using his left weapon 1:44 his right elbow is hit but he keeps swinging winning the fight with that arm 3:19 hit his right elbow again 4:17 strike towards his head isnt blocked properly and he takes his opponents sword in his face yet keeps fighting 6:45 when his right hand is struck he keeps striking and probably a few more I've missed (only rewatched his fights in first half of the video) But I probably just dont understand the rules as I also dont know why he picks up his sword again at 9:48 Edit: its probably easier, if you start watching a second before my timestamps on .25 speed: 0:35 1:43 3:18 4:16 6:44
Thank you! I'll take a look at those fights and might even make that short that was suggested earlier. I can get some of the confusion out of the way pretty easily though. Shots to the hand that are weilding a weapon don't count as a hit and the head and neck area are illegal hit locations, for safety reasons, so also dont count. I'll look into the other fights when I get a chance!
I too like dnd
Idk how this ended up on my recommended. Goated honestly.
I like your appreciative way of dealing with each other. :)
Thank you! We like to try and keep it light hearted and fun, even when we are being competitive.

Used to Amt in Salem around 2016! Thinking about trying it out again soon. Getting knighted in Arts was such a goal for me back then.
We'd enjoy seeing you back out. We play in a county park just outside of Keizer now, Spong's Landing.
Just got done reviewing! Thanks man!
No problem! Just got done watching your stream.
I really appreciate these short videos with training tips. I have some realm mates that can't pay attention long enough to watch a whole SKBC class, so these are great.
I appreciate you watching and sharing them! I agree, though, an hour and a half video is a lot to take in. I'll have a few more of these small ones, but not for a while. Hopefully, when I release the larger videos, my TH-cam chapters will help people navigate them so they get more use out of them.
@@Baelnorn Thank you!
I'd like to see more! Do you mind if I review this for my channel?
Hopefully I'll get some more good recordings, if I do, I'll do it again! You're more than welcome to review this on your channel!
I love how the slow-mow, shows that weapons can bend on impact, which to me means that there are good blocks I make, that somehow can still 'hit' me, and can be viewed as a good hit. It is a quirk of the weapons we don't take into consideration. Plus there are shots that can exploit this issue.
Our weapons do bend! Slowing that down can really highlight that. The camera can have an exaggerating effect though, even if just a bit, just something to be aware of when reviewing your own video.
This was great! I need to do this for myself!!!
Breaking down your own fights is very useful. It helps you understand your strengths and weaknesses, which can help you figure out how best to improve.
Don't sell yourself short. When I started you were one of the most fierce single stick and pole fighters in the PNW. An inspiration to us up and coming Warlords.
That's very kind of you to say. I'm not sure who this is, but you must have been around for a while if you remember me in my "prime".
I really liked this! Slowing the fight down and telling us what happened is a really cool idea and really helps with learning!
I'm really glad you liked it, I was unsure how the reception it was going to have! Hearing it helped makes all the work it took worth it.
The title says open but the video says long sword.🤷♂️
Oops, fixed the title, it should have said longsword. Thank you!
Very insightful
Thank you!
Still waiting for v9 to come back. There’s nothing I hated about it and it actually got me into spells from v8. I think v9 was hugely superior
It is a shame how it was dissolved.
Don't forget, the Regent can give awards!
Good fighting! Thanks to the two fighters for being so cool and taking the time to do this!! Y'all are awesome, and I learned a lot watching you fight.
Thank you for watching, It's nice to hear you got some use out of it, it's why I started posting the fighting videos in the first place, to give a chance to people to learn from watching others!
Who gave them a warlord lmao

I'm down in Oregon, so local enough to travel to Washington a few times a year. :)
@@Baelnorn ah well hello from the Emerald Coast!
I'd definitely be interested in hearing more about the world building you've done for larp. I find it very difficult to incorporate more, if any, RP into Amtgard. I get that most people just want to whack each other with foam, but I LOVE the aspect of a backstory or a seasonal arc.
I appreciate the comment! It's definitely not intuitive to incorporate more RP in to Amtgard, that's for sure. I have a few videos that have touched on the subject, but just on the surface. I'll link you the play list where to find them, but I will certainly work on scripting more content world building and the worlds I've worked on. th-cam.com/play/PLnTvs99l5tZwNtTfi56qgUIslVnxyhj-w.html&si=xQbO9oISP4Zw8oDW
