Always fun to hear about the inspiration and concepts within each piece - lovely!
Thanks for watching!
What Level on the Piano Solo list? Can you please include levels when highlighting music from the bulletin? Thanks Sam!
Actually, no, we're not allowed to disclose the level of pieces in the bulletin. Sorry, this wasn't our decision.
I was really help by Glenda's explanation of the phrasing in this piece ,Autumn Waltz. Love knowing that Chopin inspired Glenda to write this piece for the Medium Class for Federation .
That's the hope with all of these videos... we hope teachers will get some great insights about teaching these pieces directly from the composers!
Fabulous to see the endless creativity shared by modern composers!
So fun to hear about these wonderfully creative pieces! Wonderful interview, Sam and Suzanne!
Suzanne's pieces are great! I hope everyone finds out about them. They're sure to be student favorites!
What a great interview! I hadn't put it together that he was Margaret Goldston's son!
Thanks for your kind words about the interview! I think these interviews are a great way for all of us to get to know the composers whose music we all teach and love!
I've loved listening in to Carolyn's music. Thanks for sharing!
YES to playfulness with words & rhythm! Love that!
Her music is so outstanding! Students always love playing her pieces!
Fabulous composer to feature and have loved following Kai's work in the past couple years!
Lots of really wonderful ponders in this interview!
It was great getting to know him! I know the students who play his works are really going to love them!
I remember Joyce was on staff at UW La Crosse in the nineties. Am I remembering right?
You're exactly right! She impacted so many lives as a professor of music at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse!
You are on FIRE with this fabulous series! Wonderful pieces and so fun to hear from the legend Dennis Alexander himself!
Aww shucks! Thanks so much for your kind words! It has been a huge amount of work, but it has been so interesting speaking to so many amazing composers!
Oh that's awesome! I was wondering if you'd coordinated your shirt choices! It was awesome!
@@MotifMusicStudios AH! You saw it! Thanks for watching to the end. This was our second interview, so I wore a shirt like the one I saw him wearing during the first interview. It was so much fun! Dennis is such a lovely person and so easy to talk to !
FABULOUS to see Chrissy on your channel!
She is so brilliant! There will be a second video with her on composing in a few weeks, too! I don't know if you saw my jaw literally drop when she told me how many published arrangements she has, but that was completely unstaged. I'm so happy she was willing to take the time to talk with me!
I added a link to a video of Martha performing this work to the description.
Thank you Martha for this behind the scenes look into your lovely piece, Moonlight! Your teaching tips will be so helpful! I wish you had played it for us! Thank you for sharing this, Sam!! 👏👏👏

Pulling an artistic performance out of an elementary student - yes! Great interview.
These interviews give us *so* much knowledge as teachers! It's so inspiring. I feel like I'm getting a private masterclass each time I watch one!
An AMAZING collection and fun to see this piece highlighted!
It's a great collection and it was so wonderful to hear Catherine play this piece and talk us through it!
I love the William Gillock connection! How lucky she was to have him as a mentor.
It's been interesting, she's not the only composer who mentioned Mr. Gillock's mentorship. I truly wish I could have interviewed him.
Fabulous series and love hearing about all these musical gems! Kai's piece are so engaging and original!
I so relate to this struggle with staccato playing as a student! DEFINITELY was a sticky technical feature for me!
This is such a fun piece! lovely to hear your interviews!
Thanks so much! We love teaching Kevin Olson's pieces! They are always student favorites.
This link doesn’t appear to work
Thanks for letting us know! We've updated the link in the description.
Thanks for these wonderful introductions! I've only recently been introduced to Keith's vast library!
Love that phrase shaping is top tier for a focus point!
What insights, what inspiration! How about writing a memoir, Joyce?
cool piece Dr. Price!
Another very special opportunity to hear from Catherine Rollin and I loved hearing about her descriptive ideas in this piece!
It's so special to get to hear directly from Catherine what students and teachers should focus on in this piece!
Catherine Rollin composes with deep musical and technical understanding, with humor, and with love. I'm so glad that she continues to produce music and is unafraid to have an online publication presence. Everyone, please try her compositions whenever possible. They are a delight to learn and, in her words, "sound harder than they really are", but are full of profound technique and artistry, and above all are accessible. Highly recommended: Rollin's "Pathways to Artistry" series. The technique sub-series is especially meaningful. Thank you, Sam and Ms. Rollin!
Thanks for your kind words, and yes, "Pathways to Artistry" is an AWESOME resource!
Joyce Grill, you are an incredible inspiration! What an entertaining interview. 😀❤️
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
A composing LEGEND indeed. I have taught her music since 1998 and clearly remember those Bean Bag Solos - always studio favourites!
Thanks for watching! We're big fans of your channel and we're so glad you're here!
Well done Martha, beautiful piece!
More fabulous introductions - fabulous!
What a deeply thoughtful person and musician Ms. Tan is, and her compositions reflect exactly that. Thank you!
She is brilliant, incredibly knowledgable, and entirely engaging! It was so much fun talking with her!
A total joy! And so many colorful stories!
What a wonderful interview! Thank you, Sam. Joyce Grill's music has also been on the RCM list of repertoire and etudes, at least since 2015. Her compositions are indeed distinctive, accessible, and rewarding.
You are rocking this series! Love you speaking out and introducing all these wonderful contemporary composers!
Love Jason's adventurous pieces!
Thank you, Sam! It's such a joy to share the stories behind the music.
Thank you, Wynn-Anne, for the awesome interview! It was so much fun talking with you and hearing all of your insights.
Such a fabulous series and great to hear from all these wonderful contemporary composers! Wynn-Anne shines bright!
Love the thought of a 'lingering caffeination' and extending that experience! Lovely thought!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying these!
Great interview, great piece, and great person! Love all of Scott’s pieces!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the interview. Scott's pieces are certainly awesome!
I always love Kevin Olson’s music. I’m glad he says we can “steal” because he’s one composer I want to learn more from!
Watch for lots more interviews with composers with lots of great advice about composing coming soon!
We've used this piece a lot in our studio!
It's so much fun and I know students are going to love it!
Great interview!
Thanks!
Great learning about a specific pice from the composer ! Asking the student to hear orchestral sounds, in different areas of this piece, is a great was to approach artistic imagination.
Phillip has so many awesome ideas to help students learn pieces! Thanks for watching!
Wonderful interview, Sam! Such an awesome idea to interview the composer and give us an inside view of these pieces!! Thank you!!😊🎶
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! There's lots more to come!
What a thoughtful, friendly teacher Kai Ono must be!
It was a really fun interview!
Wonderful to see Kai Ono featured! Loved seeing him working alongside My-Melodies with Brock Chart!
That's WAY too fun that those pieces were also about people in Kai's life! SO fabulous and wonderful!
'birdification' is my new favourite word!
He's such a talented composer and we had a lot of fun chatting!
You two make a dynamic duo!
Aww shucks! It's easy to turn out great interviews when your interviewees are all super talented, super interesting, and beloved by this community!
