Further to my previous comment I now know that my X3 Great grandfather Reuben Bullard and his 4 children from his 2nd marriage to Lucy Dye first entered Gressenhall in 1865/66 after his wife Lucy died in October 1865. Two of Reuben & Lucy's children died in Gressenhall; William on the 12th September 1866 aged 7 from Cachaxia (cancer) & Harriet also aged 7 on the 2nd June 1870 from Typhoid fever. Reuben himself also died aged 71 in Gressenhall on the 13th Sepember 1885 from "Decay of Nature". All three were buried in un-marked graves which are now all under the orchard mentioned in the video.

Hello Mike - many congrats on the continued research and the fascinating story you are uncovering of the Bullard family. It's just sad that they ended up in a Workhouse, though for many it was actually a better life than struggling outside of the Gressenhall environment> Good luck with your future research too.

Hello Kate - and thank-you for taking the time to comment. Yes, I would have loved to make mention of the films/TV made in the town but the tight restrictions on just 12 minutes per episode made it very difficult to include everything. Yes, the posts are still there, a small memory of what used to be - but is sadly no more. And I'm fairly sure that whilst there is an appetite for another pier, the financial cost will prohibit such development.

@@chrisbaileypresents7139 Hiyas, Its a shame tbh that most if not all the history have been lost. Used to live in wisbech and from Wolferton to Hunstanton railway has been a lifelong interest. the railway from wisbech to Sutton bridge too. Finding old history has always been interesting. As a child the pier stuck out about 100 feet. an old amusement place was there, that burnt down i think in the late 80s. I remember the boating pond with those small power boats but Hunstanton seemed to die and keep dieing. Similar to most of Norfolk's coastal towns which had so much nostalgia, too modern now. Give me the old days over our modern world. Brancaster staithe was so cool in the 80s. so old world. Thornham has been a place i have been going to since 1972. Would be a massive draw for the area to have a new pier built but i would love to see it made in traditional style. PS old hunstanton St Mary's church is a stunning building. Are you related to the Baileys from Four Gotes near Tydd Gote? if so we are related.

Hello Caz Thank-you for your comment and I am glad you like the video story. One of the hangars should be converted to a museum dedicated to the Spitfire, Lightning and Jaguar. Fast taxi runs of these types down the runway wouldn’t interfere with the solar farm and I know, as an aviation photographer, people would pay good money to have the opportunity to photograph these iconic aircraft roaring along in a live situation. The wonderful Norwich museum is now cut off from the airport (new road) and Bruntingthorpe’s live aircraft are now penned into a corner and some deteriorating away because of cars. Once this history is gone, it’s can only be viewed in great videos like this one and in books. So come on Norfolk CC, turn this into a tourist attraction and bring some much needed revenue into the county.

Magnificent house , beautifully filmed and described. I'm amused by the prounencianation of "Houghton" here, rather different to what we would say in Australia. Norfolk seems to have the most magnificent country houses and families of all the English counties and of course Sandringham is just down the road.

Hello Matt. Thank-you for taking the time to so kindly comment and my apologies for the delay in responding. As someone who spent 14 years living in Australia (and I still visit regularly) I do agree that the Hall title 'Houghton' does get said a number of ways!! It's the same here in the UK - it's not always pronounced correctly. And the same can be said of the surname of the owner, Lord Cholmondeley !! You mention Sandringham estate - you may not be familiar with the history of how Queen Victoria created the House in the estate. Seeking an avenue to get her eldest son out of London (and away from his female 'friends') she contacted the Walpole family at Houghton Hall and asked them if she could buy some of their land - they could hardly refuse their monarch. hence Sandringham is built on what was formerly the Houghton estate. Kind regards, Chris

I am researching the Bulwer/Bullard line on my grandfathers side of my family and was staggered to see Caroline Bullard pop up (9.26 minutes). My grandfathers Great Grandfather Reuben Bullard was in Gressenhall together with at least two of his children Caroline who was aged 15 & Frederick George aged 12 from August 1869. Although this Pauper Children Going into service placement didn't work out for Caroline in July 1871 she is taken in by a school master Mr John Slater and his wife Jane Anne Slater. They lived in the High Street Whissonsett village and had an infant son called Joseph Herbert. It looks like Caroline was going to be their nanny/domestic servant.

Pleased to come across this short video as I grew up in The Old Barge in the late 50s until 1965. Now living in Wiltshire I enjoy going back from time to time. I can now show your video as its a great explanation of the history and importance of the building. When I lived there it was a very lively pub and digs(b&b these days). Father Sear' vicarage was sandwiched between the pub one end and Swatmans butchers on the other end. Tom Watts furniture shop replaced Haydens bakery. Aldous's little shop was on the corner where Horns lane (now called Music House Lane) meets King Street.Where you're standing at the end of the video was our garden when we lived in Rose Cottage before my parents took over the Old Barge from Mr & Mrs Chadwick. Still love Norwich..always wish my parents hadn't dragged me off to landlocked Wiltshire !

Hello from the East Riding of Yorkshire. Yes I remember the film. I believe in America it was called ALL AT Sea. I used to have a friend who lived in Gayton and we often went to Hunstanton by Bus, as sadly the railway has been closed 😢. I am sure if the railway had been kept it would be well used, what with our roads conjested like they are now. Marples and Beaching have a lot to answer for. But Hunstanton is still a lovely place to visit and I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you sir once again. 👍@@chrisbaileypresents7139

I was hoping to see Bono's sizeable collection of hatchbacks. I guess he must've sold the vehicles to buy a new hat.
