Wished i had searched first, i thought for sure it would be covered under extended warranty since the track was replaced 4 years ago . Sunset Ford said it was a known issue and Ford said to clean and lube!!! 200 dollars later...
GOOD ON YOU FOR NOT JUST HANDING OVER YOUR F150 & UR CHECKBOOK!! INSTEAD OF WHITE LITHIUM, TRY SPRAY DRY LUBE, PPL USE IT IN WINDOW TRACK TO SAVE RESISTANCE ON PW MOTER!
If you still have warranty take it to the dealer if not, this is the best way to hide the noise coming from the actuators leadscrew runout, if you still have noises coming from the column after add grease (I recomend the lithium grease) you will need replace of the whole actuator because probably you have some gear threads damaged on those motors, I always turn off the easy entry easy exit function because at some point ill use the steering wheel to get into the vehicle when is moving (incorrect use), that my friends is the root cause for that damage on the threads.
Just ordered a can from Amazon, it’s gone up in price a bit in the last 5 years. My vehicle is a 2018 Ford Kuga (Uk) (Escape US) and I’m having exactly the same problem.
Hi I have a 2014 f150 platinum and my sterling wheel doesn't move back and forward, can you explain me what I need to do I just heard a little noise , but it moves up and down , thanks for your help
Actuator replacement, the gears are probably damaged, if you use the steering wheel to get into the truck when the easy entry easy exit is working you probably damaged the internal components of that actuator........
not really, to put a new one you need put the column on an especific position reason why you need take all the column out of the vehicle, if you want to do it please remember UNPLUG THE BATTERY AND DEENERGIZE THE VEHICLE, you dont want the airbag in your face, also the columns has another harness pluged to the vehicle because all the new vehicles has a secondary safety system attached to absorb impact energy in case of an accident, those also can explode if you don do it correctly, if you do it wrong you also can create lash between steering system components, loose steering wheel, rubing noises coming from the clockspring when you turn the steering wheel or airbag lights on if you dont plug the conectors correctly or even damaged terminals, recomendation.... take it to the dealer.
Guys I fixed mine in 10 minutes. It’s just the two screws on the sides. Pop it up and use an Allen wrench to tighten it in after pushing the roof up into place. put the covers back on the sides, done!
@@100pyatt no you really don’t need to remove the glass. It’s just the two screws on the sides of the sunroof. There are four screws in total - two on each side. just push the roof around and tighten the screws until you feel that it’s not vibrating anymore.
theres 2 leadscrews, once you remove the shrouds you will be able to see it, just to give more life to your column you can add the same grease on the tube that moves when you make the in/out function, that will prevent noises and vibrations on the telescope function
My telescoping steering wheel stopped moving in all directions, and my power foot pedals stopped working as well. Might anyone know if BOTH of these motors are on the same fuse? Pretty sure it's a fuse issue.
Same fuse and both are conected to the same harness and accesories module, I received some columns from warranties (I work on the company were the columns are build for F150, Expedition, Explorer, Navigator, Aviator, Mustang, Super Duty) and the inoperative conditions are common, the thing here is when you apply the 13V to the column actuators everything works fine, the column doesnt have any complex circuit just need the voltage coming from the accesories module, according to this those failure modes could be related to 3 things: Incorrect software update on your latest service (computer-module issue), defective harness (you will see more accesories with issues), or that you used a jumper to revive you vehicle and you burn your accesory module (not even sound coming from the steering wheel adjustment).
I have the same issue on the same truck, it's driving me nuts. I took it to the Ford dealer and they took it in the garage for 20 minutes and said they "replaced the tracks and seals" on the whole sunroof. I'm calling BS on that but whatever it fixed the rattle... For 2 weeks. Now it's back and I can't wait to try your fix
They all say , "well that's the first time I heard of that", right from oil consumption to every other complaint that's the standard response from the dealer
The new F150 could have been such a great truck. The fit and finish on mine is terrible. I know plenty of people that have had no problems at all with theirs, but mine has been a near endless chain of annoying minor issues, most of which the deal either could not fix or “didn’t hear.”
Ford did their research and discovered that if they told people they needed a new sunroof, they could make lots of money. If they told them to spray it with lithium grease, they didn't make any money! ;) Thanks for this video though. I'm about to tear into the steering column because one of those gears is stripped.
Helpful video, thanks for posting. Did this on my 2014 F150 and it got rid of the grinding noise, though the motor itself is still pretty loud. For reference the three screws below the column are 5.5mm and the column shroud comes apart via two clips/tabs - one right above the ignition and one directly opposite the ignition (left side).
I haven’t tried it yet but thanks for posting. I just recently heard the rattling on my Expedition Max panoramic roof. I’ll grab some grease tomorrow. Thanks again brother!!!
I have an Expedition less than a year old that made this noise 300 miles from home and scared me to death. Fortunately it stopped and I made it home. Steering seemed fine, so I bet you have nailed the problem! Thank you!
THANKS VERY MUCH. My 2015 F150 has had the SAME squeak / rattle since it was about a year old. Exact same location - passenger side, just above the seat belt. No lie, I had it into the dealer (Dixie Ford in Mississauga / Toronto) 6 times for this issue. It drives me CRAZY, so much so that it makes me question if I would ever buy another F150 again. Only occurs when the roof is closed, open it and it goes away, but will return within 5 minutes of closing the roof. Unlike your experience though, my dealer admitted to me that they have a lot of issues with this dual panel sunroof. The last time it was in, I said to the dealer, "this thing is coming up on 3 years, I've had it in 6 times for this issue and you've never been able to fix it. If this noise comes back after the warranty has expired, please tell me you won't tell me too bad for you." To his credit, he said he would not do that. The last time I picked it up, I could smell they sprayed something on it and the noise went away for several weeks, but it comes back. Sounds like this will need to be done from time to time. It has also migrated to above the back window. It is also very much weather dependent. Too hot, it won't do it. Too cold, it won't do it. Snow on the roof, it won't do it. I actually have 2 distinct sounds on my sunroof. The original one sounds like a marble impacting plastic. The second sound (and a newer sound) is just a plain old squeak and tends to only happen in the cold. And it takes a certain kind of bump to make it happen. (Fortunately, the dealer's parking lot has the perfect kind of asphalt surface for making it occur.) It's more like when the truck twists as opposed to just hitting a bump. But one thing is for sure, no more sun roofs for me EVER. I never open the damn thing anyway. I only got it because I bought a Lariat which was on the Dealer's lot and it came equipped with a sunroof. But my advice to Ford F150 buyers would be to stay away from the sunroof. Will try the lithium grease shortly. But it fits.
15 f150 same setup, same exact issue. My family owns a auto, residential and comm glass shop and I had all the auto techs baffled as they heard it but couldn't diagnose it in the shop when I took them for a ride to find it. Lithium grease worked! Ty!
Roof rattle was driving me batty. So glad I found your video. I actually applied a thin coat of Plumber's Grease around the seal and it silenced it almost immediately. Thanks so much for sharing!!
Thanks for this video man. This seems to be happening to my 2018 F150 Limited now that winter is here in New England. Its so frustrating to spend over 60K on a truck and have this issue. I also had the vacuum seal issues with the front right wheel hub - where vacuum fails and 4WD partially engages and sounds like a bunch of nut n bolts in a blender - at 5200 miles.
Thanks man. My 2018 just started making same noise. thought it was just my OCD . After research found its very common. I did what you did and so far it's worked. Only been one day now so fingers crossed I the lasting results you have. Thanks again
Thank you for taking the time to post this. Going to try it this afternoon. I got the exact same excuse/comment from the dealership. I got talked into this option and have regretted it from Day 1. LOVE my truck. Cant stand the moon roof option.
Great video....just lubed the jack screw and rail, 2016 Ford Taurus Limited. Telescoping feature is back to whisper quiet !!
Will this quiet down my wife? She’s a 1985 model and she’s gettin a little loose in certain areas and is making some strange noises.
Wiped the outer edge of glass panel with a thin layer of lithium grease. Noise eliminated! Thank you for taking the time to post this video.
Was the grinding more like a clicking sound? I turned off my easy entry but it clicks when I open and close the door
Wished i had searched first, i thought for sure it would be covered under extended warranty since the track was replaced 4 years ago . Sunset Ford said it was a known issue and Ford said to clean and lube!!! 200 dollars later...
My 2013 F150 has a grab handle on the passenger side but not on the drivers side. I'll be doing this DIY this weekend. Thank you for sharing!
3oz tube of Motorcraft PTFE grease for $13 (wholesale price) fixes this and keeps sunroof happy
Could you do a video on how you do it next time?
Mines stuck in wont adjust twords me

They are built cheap
Is replacing the motor easy?

@@mariohamex okay thanks
Why lithium grease over silicone spray lube or spray teflon dry lubricant?

Is that how you remove the Glass ? TY 🙏

Can't see any obvious moving parts t o grease

Much appreciated! This was driving me insane
Tremendous! Will try this immediately versus continuing toward insanity.

Thanks, it's been bugging me.

Just bought my truck last month. The rattle I hear is in the exact same spot. Thank you so much for this solution. I will try to grease it tomorrow.

Holy fuck you're my HERO Thanks... My OCD was pushed to the limits, Mines in the same spot. fixing tomorrow.

I had the same thing in vw passat b8, the service stuck a tape between the frame and the body and now it's quiet
This video was a great help on my 2013 Ford F150 platinum. It was human error that caused the problem. Thanks.
Thanks for the video!
I’m not seeing the motors inside the steering column. Woulda been helpful if you showed which parts you actually greased up
I used the same fix on my sunroof and it worked. Ford Dealership told me how to do it for free

How long did it last?
I do mine every 3 months to prevent this and leaking or sticking which will break the plastic tract and could shatter glass
perfect! My 2018 Platinum suffers from this as well... I'll do the same! THANKS
