The History America Doesn't Teach! Indigenous Philosophy w/ Dr. Andrea Sullivan-Clarke
Dr. Andrea Sullivan-Clarke, a Native American philosopher from the Wind Clan of Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma, and an Associate Professor at Indiana University Bloomington, comes on the podcast to confront America's vexed history with teaching and learning about Native American and Indigenous culture. Andrea first explains the importance of listening to how Indigenous communities identify themselves.
For a long time, Andrea explains that America ignored the importance of indigenous philosophies, specifically the art of storytelling, and how storytelling conveys not just lessons but freedom in interpretation. As Andrea says "Oral traditions face losses from colonization, so recovery and sharing remain important" in order to learn the factual history about their communities.
Similarly, Andrea stresses the responsibilities for institutions and scholars to engage in respectful, reciprocal relationships with indigenous communities.

This was a fantastic interview and your analysis of the text is as Maguire says adroit, but boy I would have loved something less than five ads interrupting the interview mid-sentence
Thank you so much for listening, and if you haven't please follow and share our TH-cam channel. I can understand that about the ads, but in order to offer these podcast episodes for free, I rely on advertisements. But, there's an ad-free version of each podcast episode on our Patreon.
It was such a pleasure having Dr. Andrea Sullivan-Clarke on the podcast!
This guy is a fake. He DID laugh about child trafficking and said he would rather watch the Barbie movie. He's an idiot.
SO EXCITED MIGHT SEE THIS TONIGHT
Ew
Did you see the movie?
Is the movie good??!!! 💖🎀🩰🎄
It was incredible. You need to see it!
Ok yes I just needed someone's opinion so thanks 💖
@@Isabella-q1z Let me know what you think when you see it!
@@Isabella-q1z Did you see it yet?
It’s just a play ….. nothing more Nothing less The book is a wholly different animal
@@jimrenner9401 I would argue that the musical still contains a message about overcoming adversity and standing up for those who are denied rights.
Anyone else really excited for this to be over? I don’t think there was as much talk about the election as there was this movie
Are you suggesting that this has been a long publicity campaign haha?
Too real
I think we need to stop trying to put the lgbtq in everything it’s okay that everything isn’t gay it’s literally an allegory for the rise of Populism
I just saw it twice last week and OMFG!!!! the people went crazy! absolutely extraordinary!
Whatever you do, don't look up the history of the Brown Shirts
I’m seeing this in April and cannot wait!
Dying to see this ! Obsessed ! Meanwhile, I’ve been going down a Sunset Blvd rabbit hole
I had such a wonderful time chatting with Gregory Maguire!
I saw Rachel tucker not Nicole because I'm not a fan of her voice and was skeptical, so I'm not going to say this is bad not having the context of the show around it. But I assume y'all are hearing all the terrible choices and vocal weaknesses right? The way she says bigger is so funny and not in a good way
@@emhu2594 I love Rachel Tucker's interpretation!
It’s like she’s singing the words with NO vowels…
I can watch this over and over and over again. She’s the best. I would never have imagined it would be this good after I’ve seen the original movie and other productions. 👏🏾👏🏾
Voice for the ages👌
Aside from Linda Eder, she's a powerhouse! Yes, finally she's in her element. I cried right after this song, you can feel every emotion in this particular solo.... 1st standing ovation, one after another... have seen so many broadway shows... this has no fanfare on stage, no props, just black and white but you just can't wait to hear her and her male counterparts. Props to the camera people on stage... they deserve some accolades too!
Gheeeeeeeey !
This is exactly the clown type of people I think would vote for Harris. 🤮🤡🤡
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
I'm NOT voting for Kamala
Lol.
Trump 2024-2028
Oh, the dramala will end alright.
OK, I have seen and heard her do this several times now and she nails it every single time and at the end of this number the audience leaps to their feet so love getting to experience this. She is absolutely amazing. Blows me away.
My goodness...so exceptional in this tidbit...rest of the show must be absolutely SPECTACULAR

Who else is obsessed with Scream?
What's your favorite scary movie?
Very happy and proud of you, Nicole!!! Finally, your time has come!!!!
❤❤❤❤listen to that majesty and power and emotions when she sings truly a massively talented artist and yes she dances too ! This show must be in everyone’s bucket list !
Heard her sound better singing other songs.

Glasgow not glasscow
@@Johnboy1690.... Well glad you listened!

UNBELIEVABLE!
Her power is so impressive!
@@ivorytowerboilerroom Yes, truly magnificent! And, her technique is IMPECCABLE!
Omg I can’t wait for the soundtrack!!! It sounds like it’s gonna be so good
Yes, I cannot wait to listen to it. I just started binge listening to Sunset BLVD!
Wish I had been there.
@@JerryVanderDoes Right it looks incredible!
I was at this exact performance. I posted a question in Reddit Broadway about the directorial choices and was surprised a couple other people on the thread were at that specific performance too. What coincidences!
Such a powerful performance!
The power of Nicole ❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤
The original poster is iconic, why would this be a bad thing?
Only people like it would get offended now they get offended by anything
Do you think that it's okay for fans to do this?
@@ivorytowerboilerroom I think it is. It’s not degrading, it’s just a reference to the og poster, which in my opinion is pretty cool that they did. I guarantee you the person that made it didn’t have bad intentions other than to just imitate the og poster with the current actresses
Yes it’s I can make your sad heart sing …
U got a big junk
THANK YOU FOR THIS ❤
@@utoobah You're welcome.
Pssssst...it's 2024.
@@showguyusa This was from the London production.
