Hi there Toastiness, I guess you eat a fair bit of toast at Uni!?! Well done for putting these work out there for all to enjoy... there's a small issue with the Translation... WHICH has been changed from the Original CD Booklet!!! Someone has seen fit to "tinker" with the work that I did for Toccata... and frankly has made a bit of a mess! Admittedly, there are some tricky passages, and there were even misprints in the German! z.B. Weigre! The Opening WORD to the WHole Piece" Wandelt" I thought about for ages.. and a much closer translation... woul d be "Live" I chose Change.. as it is closer to convert to= Live by.... not Walk/wander! Fascinating to see this here! This is a superb Set of works! Just Vol.6 of the Toccata Series was let down by the Singer whose German was dreadfully slurred!!(Jan van Elsacker. Vol.7 was a Triumph despite a few niggles in the Translation... now out-sourced for Free I understand!?! Let's hope they finish the Set!! All 72 Works! Ardent Baroquophile D.Melanti/Arcadian Mind!
Hello thank you for your kind comment! Fun fact I'm not even old enough to be in Uni yet (haha...). Thank you for your contributions to this set of recordings! If I were to be brutally honest with you, I did not know you could download the CD booklet for free until I read your comment. I've always thought that you have to buy the actual CD to get the booklet. In fact I just took the original German text, threw it through google translate and was done with it since my knowledge of German is pitifully low 😭 I'll go edit all the translations of his cantatas in a few days after my exams end next week, but thank you for the info!
@@toastiness Thanks for getting back, appreciated, also the mystery of why these Texts have become slightly distorted... from the translated ones I did for Vol. 4 & 5, prior to me they employed someone called Lady Bramell who gave a rather stilted version.. with a few errors too! This old style German can have some difficult language with subtle nuances.... some the Google translate has missed! It ALL becomes clear now, Incicentally I have been into Telemann for over 40+ Years... even been to his home city of Magdeburg! I need to go to Hamburg where he ended up for 46Years!! Think of that 46 Years of making Music for all the City's occasions! ! Tons of music! He was writing Cantatas before and after Js Bach! About 20 Cycles approx 20 x 72!! Some are truly magnificent! Good luck with those transfers of Texts and with your Exams! ;-))
I had to check the original manuscript because I couldn't believe the rhythm in the second aria. °_°
Thats exactly my reaction when I saw the score for the first time too HAHAHA
@@toastiness @SPscorevideos it's amazing, right! Telemann actually does this trick in a lot of pieces. If you want to know more about it, I wrote an article ("Mixed Meter in a Mixed Taste") which discusses this exact cantata
mm that's interesting. I'll definitely go check the paper out
i am proud to say I have this solo as a freshman in highschool for our marching band .
Bellezza sublime della musica e del testo
6:34
The first time at 1:37 is 'Deh ti placa, deh ti frena'. It is the end of the Edgardo's 'Sulla tomba che rinserra'. I think that the introduction is by Alvars himself
Ah what a keen observaion! Thanks so much
You made my day. I was searching for lyrics and notes of "Ballo detta barrera" during 2-3 years (not very intensive). Many tnanks...

Telemann was so good that baroque wasn't just enough for him
Having that chord 6 just before the final tonic major is such a nice touch
Handel stole most of this with And He Shall Purify the Sons of Levi
Considering this as my grade 8 own choice piece
Wow, I just discovered this opera!... The overture is fantastic, such beautiful harmonies... and a great setup to kick-off an adventure! Thank you for the score!.. I'll have a listen to the whole work.
It's a beautiful melody
Hearing a piece of music composed by Gottschalk for the first time is always a surprise. It's like you thought you knew how talented he was, and he keeps reminding that you didn't.
yes a very good piece
Telemann inmortal!!!.-

The singing doesn’t always match with the score. Different editions?
I don’t think so because this score is a pretty accurate transcription from the original Harmonischer Gottendienst manuscript. Without relistening to the piece, I assume that the deviations occur in the da capos and the recitativo. It’s common practice to improvise a little during da capo sections of arias since singing the same thing again would get boring really fast, and it was a way for the singer to show off. During recitatives, there are unwritten ways which a singer approaches any cadence from, which you can hear from listening to different recitatives, and usually the bass cadences after the voice, contrary to what’s written in the score.
@@toastiness I’m actually a baroque singer, I know how to sing a da capo. According to me some parts are simply inaccurate.
ok sure man 🤷♂️🤷♂️
❤❤❤❤❤
Despite Farinelli had a soprano voice with a high tessitura superpassing the high C, here, at least in this aria, we can see that it is in an alto range, a range where Farinelli preferred to sing and also very convenient nowadays comfortable for all kind of voices, alto, contralto, mezzosoprano, soprano.

The second part reminds me passacaille from armide
Yes it does! Especially since both are in minor, used the same (similar) form and lamento bassline too.
German: 1. Aria Du bist verflucht, o Schreckensstimme, du bist verdammt, o Donnerwort.
