    I love the magnetic feature for ease of use, but I do with they were a little stronger. I bought a K&F kit a couple years ago that has a CPL, 10 stop, and UV. I've had at least one occasion that the filter fell off with a slight bump, but I've also had other times where it held on very well. My kit didn't come with the lens cap, but my plan, which hasn't happened yet, has been to get a 3 and a 6 stop ND which would each include the adapter ring and the lens cap. The additional adapter rings would prevent the need to move it from lens to lens.

    • @JamesParkerPhotography
      @JamesParkerPhotography 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s odd. I found the magnets almost too strong. I do wish they made a kit that had CPL, 3,6, and 10 stop. That would be perfect.

      I found the same thing. On several occasions the filter fell off. I’ve moved to the Freewell M2 system. A $150 price point for the kit was a deal, IMO.

    I am not so happy the way Luminar Neo 1.19.1 handles the deleted images! most of the time after I am done editing photos and finished exporting i would like to remove them from catalog! Luminar Neo moves them to Lumiinar trash and if you empty trash Luminar moves everything to system trash rather than just removing it from Luminar! I did not know that, luckily I did not empty the system trash and was able to recover my images. I like the HDR extension which was included his time (change of policy! good move) but it lacks some the features that Aurora HDR had. Tons of useless presets and other stuff came with my purchase too! in general I am not so enthused with the presets that came with Luminar Neo! I think Luminar 2018 and Luminar 4 had much better presets.

    Thanks James, that was really interesting. I've been using Luminar Neo for some time now, as my Lightroom Classic V.6 is somewhat long in the tooth and I am not prepared to make a subscription to Adobe to upgrade. You have put my mind at rest to a degree, as I too found Neo focus stacking to be near useless for my work case. I tend not to use a tripod when I am out on the fly, so although I try to keep the camera as still as possible, inevitably there will always be slight movement. I previously used Adobe Photoshop, which did a far better job. Let's hope Skylume take notice of your criticism as I really like this photo editing software.

    Hi James - total newbie question, sorry. How are you getting multiple photos of exactly the same thing in different exposures before you use HDR merge? Does that happen in camera at the point of shooting or during import, or in LN itself?

    • @JamesParkerPhotography
      @JamesParkerPhotography 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Merging to HDR requires multiple exposures that you take beforehand. It’s also called bracketing. You create these in camera by changing the shutter speed. Most cameras can automatically do this with 3, 5, 7, and even 9 photos. I never use more than 5.

    I like some of the features of Neo and bought the base product, but I'm not a fan of how their pricing model has evolved. Hiding the useful features you mention behind paid extensions is not something I'm going to support. IMHO everything in the extensions should be included with the base software.

    • @JamesParkerPhotography
      @JamesParkerPhotography หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dave - I get it. Hopefully they have not penalized early purchasers and taken away features unless they agree to pay more. I think the base program is still a great editing solution for a lot of photographers. Another way to consider it is you pay for what you need/want. If you have zero need for HDR or Panorama stitching you don't have to pay for it. It's like adding options to a car - you can get the base model for a cheaper price or the fully loaded with adaptive cruise control, auto climate, heated seats, etc.

    True points. I follow each of the photographers you mentioned and have viewed those videos. I suspect too that the photography, especially landscape, pool is shrinking. I see tours where people are pulling out their iphones to capture a scene at a classic location. Possibly the constant upgrading by the camera/ lens producers has burned people to the idea of heavily investing in something that is obsolete within a few short years. Add to that the critics that social media have generated that feel they must make negative comments on videos of perceived shortcomings and it becomes a tough business. I just enjoy creation and am glad that my day can end any time I wish.

    • @JamesParkerPhotography
      @JamesParkerPhotography 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Kevin - the short answer is "it depends." Rarely do you get the best photographs in harsh light. In the case with the light on the water at the waterfall, there is no filter that would have helped - those specular highlights are solid white areas with zero detail. Adding an ND filter (no matter the strength) would have just made the white areas turn gray then eventually black. CPL filters are great for removing glare and reflections as long as it's not too strong. ND filters are great for allowing you to drag your shutter to get more motion in things that are moving in your frame - water, clouds, etc.
