Swayambhunath, also known as the **Monkey Temple**, is a renowned Buddhist stupa located atop a hill in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is one of the oldest and most important religious sites in the Kathmandu Valley and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The stupa, which dates back to around the 5th century, is a significant symbol of both Buddhism and Hinduism. It features a large central dome with the all-seeing eyes of Buddha painted on it, symbolizing wisdom and compassion. The complex is also home to numerous smaller stupas, temples, shrines, and statues, creating a serene and spiritually charged atmosphere.
Swayambhunath is reached by a steep staircase with 365 steps, offering stunning panoramic views of Kathmandu and the surrounding valley. The site is also famous for the many monkeys that inhabit the area, which is why it is affectionately known as the "Monkey Temple." The stupa attracts both religious devotees and tourists for its historical significance, spiritual ambiance, and breathtaking views.
