the only 'cure' for this is to build a workforce that actually likes to work together. along with a boss who genuinely likes people. if you have those two things, then it does not even matter what the job is. as for your reasoning behind people switching off. not a disease. it is just boredom. and the less a reasons a person has to even turn up for work, the more bored they will be. but dont be thinking you can force the issue. by smashing a few vapid slogans on your walls or arranging company retreats that none ever want to attend. you have to put real work into your workforce. you have to evaluate every new member. you need to run those new people by your existing staff to see if they are a good fit. initial skill levels are unimportant. not completely, as some few of us simply can not get close to the standard no matter how good they are to work with. but anyone capable is going to find it so much easier learning new things from someone they have properly connected with. look, i can go on and expand endlessly on this. in the end though, you did not find some new mental health issue. you just found another fancy way to describe pissed off and bored workers. aka people you should never have hired in the first place. every job should have a training period. make good use of it. ensure that the right people find a new home. your existing workforce will be thankful for it. ike
You are absolutely right! We need to create work environments where people want to work and for this you need someone creating this environment! And with the right environment people will raise to higher standards. There is a nice saying "Hire for attitude and train for skill" So if people don't want to work then it is time to let them go. Like our babysitter, she didn't understand her task and didn't show an attitude where it is worthwhile to invest in training. In the end my wife payed here to have more work as she was handling our son and the babysitter. So it was not a good fit when your primary task is to play with our son and have a good time.
Disengagement is like a disease-it ripples through our lives, affecting everyone around us. Yesterday, we had a terrible experience with our new babysitter. When our 2-year-old son asked, 'Can we play Lego?' her response was, 'No, I don’t want to,' while chewing gum. This moment wasn’t just about the babysitter; it was a reflection of a larger issue. Our son thought her disengagement was his fault, but we explained that it wasn’t. Sadly, this same pattern exists in teams worldwide: Over 80% of employees are disengaged at work according to global surveys. Disengagement not only drains energy but also creates a toxic environment that impacts everyone. 💡 But here’s the good news: We can change this. 👇Step by step guide to implement DSL Metrics. It doesn’t have to be complicated.. Here are 4 steps to make it easy and effective: 1. Agree on Events you want to track: choose what’s meaningful to monitor as a team. 2. Define Tolerances: decide on thresholds (green, yellow, red) to see when actions are needed. 3. Review Metrics Regularly: embed metric reviews into retrospectives to keep progress visible. 4. Take actions for Improvement: focus on continuous growth, not team comparisons. This widely believed idea actually comes from Dr. Maxwell Maltz’s 1960 book Psycho-Cybernetics, where he observed patients needed about 21 days to adjust to changes-but it wasn’t based on scientific studies. In reality, research from University College London found that it takes, on average, 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic, and the range can vary from 18 to 254 days depending on the habit and the individual. It’s a powerful reminder for teams and businesses to focus on the areas they want to enhance. 📈 Think about it: If you don’t measure something, how can you track progress or know when you need to take action? Take the DSL (Days Since Last) metric as an example. When was the last time you went to the dentist? The longer the time, the higher the likelihood of problems. Metrics help us stay accountable and proactive. For me, during this holiday, my personal DSL is days since the last time I went into the ocean for a swim-and today, with my wetsuit, I happily reset that number. 🌊 🎯 Actionable Insight for You: What are you measuring in your team or business to ensure continuous improvement? Nothing, no control. Well I did some, basically just swapped drugs for medication and stopping drugs and alcohol and cigarettes and getting a sugar addiction and more mental health issues, and more medication for more mental illness. PTSD is for people who fight in wars. Not for women who can’t find a partner, but the men she finds, bash, slap, punch, hit, kick and throw me around. Now nobody no one, government can do something, but no they don’t. Police also don’t. So I stay inside, and continue my isolation. It took me a while to get to isolation, I couldn’t think of the right word. Which started, 9 years ago. Also don’t tell people don’t do drugs. You need way more information about what and why. Because I said so, doesn’t hold. You need because I said so and. So little of my life. There but going any further is hell. 😊so let’s not.

Circle of Control, Circle of Influence and Circle of Concern. While most of the time we only talk about Circle of Concern (70%) and then about Circle of Influence (20%) it is the Circle of Control and remaining 10% where we should focus most of the time. Espeically if you are working in a team. Focus on what you can Control!
