Keeping Grizzlies Out of Garbage
มุมมอง 482 ปีที่แล้ว
This video shows just how easy it is for refuse site users to keep bears safe. Hydraulic lid operating systems offer a chance to keep wildlife, including grizzly bears, out of garbage with the press of a button. We worked with partners to install this system at an open refuse site in the High Divide. Learn more about our work to secure garbage for the benefit of bears: peopleandcarnivores.org/g...

Field Test for Critter Gitter Carnivore Alarm
มุมมอง 8572 ปีที่แล้ว
The Critter Gitter is a high pitched alarm (as you can hear in the video) that temporarily scares away carnivore activity from your property until a more long term deterrence plan can be put into action. From the video you can see that it does a great job at spooking animals/carnivores away from the alarm.

มุมมอง 9672 ปีที่แล้ว

Bear Poles: Prevent access to food by bears
มุมมอง 2032 ปีที่แล้ว
Bear Poles are one way we can reduce the chance for a conflict in the backcountry or a campsite between humans and bears. We build these poles to prevent bears from being able to reach attractants like human foods or game carcasses.

Coyote in Montana's Wild Winterland
มุมมอง 552 ปีที่แล้ว
Coyotes can look similar to wolves; however, adults have a smaller stature and more pointed face/nose. Another way to differentiate them is through their pointed ears and grey- speckled brown fur while wolves have more rounded ears and can range from white to light grey to black.
Red Fox Takes Interest in our Trail Camera
มุมมอง 832 ปีที่แล้ว
Foxes are a common small/medium carnivore. They use their amazing sense of smell to find prey; our human scent on the trail camera may have been the reason the fox is so interested in it. Their distinct red fur and white tip on the tail makes them easy to distinguish.
Bull Moose Walking Through SW Montana Forest
มุมมอง 9062 ปีที่แล้ว
Moose may not be carnivores but they sure are large enough to trigger the motion sensors on the trail cameras! We are fortunate enough to capture this amazing Bull Moose from every angle; he walks straight past the camera giving us a great view of his velvet antlers.

It amazes me that people keep saying that coyotes hunt in packs. In a hundred years of studying coyotes, not a single person has ever recorded coyotes hunting in packs. Not one. You have "many times"?? Great. Show the video or stfu. This is from the US Parks dept. "Coyotes are very social animals, THEY DO NOT FORM PACKS but rather live in family groups. They will usually travel and hunt alone but sometimes join in loose pairs to take down prey. As a testament to the their adaptability, coyotes have been known to even hunt cooperatively with other species!"

Caucasian Shepherd is the best breed for this scenario. They are massive, freakishly strong, have protective mane and are absolutely fierce. Ultimate fighting machines. One of those beats would tear through the pack of coyotes like a lion through hyenas.

You got a substandard Great Pyr. They can be devastating. And anyone that would let they're children climb on dogs is messed up. The way you talk about the dogs is pretty soulless.

The cougar is 1 of my top 3 favorite animals but im sorry, its only a step above the cheetah. A leopard, jaguar, lion or tiger would have killed that bobcat. Tigers, lions and leopards dont engage in useless altercations but they strictly dont tolerate the presence of other wildcats. Lions and leopards in Africa will kill any cat (or predator in general) that is smaller then themselves. Cougars are just a slightly more impressive version of a cheetah. Their a little bit bigger and stronger but they too are just shy and not as aggressive, just like the cheetah. In africa, a lion or leopard would have killed the boncat outright, but this cougar is cautious and doesnt even engage with it.

I kind laughed when they said that a Great Pyr isn't a match for a pack of coyotes given the story from late 2022 of a 21-month-old Great Pyr that successfully took on a pack of 11 coyotes, though he did need a fair bit of vet care once he got home. That said, they will tend to be more successful about driving predators off if they're working in at least a small pack like they developed here.

Dang... NICE job on the fence.. I'd sure hate to be walking this sort of property and blindly run into a sow with cubs! I also wonder how the prohibition on hunting brown bears has added to the pressure and them expanding their diets and ranges. I have no interest in hunting them but there sure seems to be an uptick in shall we say, negative interactions with people over the last decade or so... Obviously, humans are encroaching further into their habitats, but they are far from being endangered any longer. Keep up the good work!
