Kessler Syndrome
มุมมอง 1802 ปีที่แล้ว
I made this video to accompany my post on the Kessler Syndrome. The Kessler Syndrome is a phenomenon in which the amount of junk in orbit around Earth reaches a point where it just creates more and more space debris, causing big problems for satellites, astronauts and mission planners.

I always wonder, if we could see the shadow of a geostationary satellite on the ground, would it be completely still? Would it oscilate or wobble? Would it slowly move in some direction and periodically correct with thrusters?

Carl, I just found your USRadioguy page but I could not find an email address so I thought I would post a comment on your TH-cam channel in hopes that you could answer a question that I have regarding the Viterbi algorithm used in Goestooles running on a Raspberry Pi. I am currently getting a Viterbi value of around 66 in the mornings at 8:00 AM and by mid-day it goes up to the low 90’s and back down to the 60’s by late afternoon. So my question is, given enough dish gain and amplifier gain and low enough amplifier noise, how low could the Viterbi value get? I am using a .98 meter offset feed prime focus dish, it’s an old Direcway dish that I rescued from the roof of an out of business restaurant. I had been eye balling the dish for years and one day as I was driving by saw the building owner doing some work on the roof and he sold me the dish for $50. I am using a NooElec NESDR SMArt XTR SDR - Premium RTL-SDR and a NooElec SAWbird+ GOES - Premium Saw Filter & Cascaded Ultra-Low Noise LNA along with a DIY round waveguide feedhorn that I designed and built. I have about 5ft. of LMR240UF 50 ohms Low Loss Coax Cable from the feed to the SAWbird LNA located behind the dish and another 26ft. from the LNA to the SDR located in my workshop. When I started out the best Viterbi value that I could get was in the high 400’s to low 500’s and after making refinements to my feed a few times, I have gotten it down to 66 in the mornings low 90’s by mid day and back to the 60’s by late afternoon. Thanks for any information that you could provide. Dave.

That is cool, I just built a system to receive GOES 16 got my first images from it last Sunday Aug. 4 2024. I am experimenting with different feed horns trying to get the Viterbi down the best that I have gotten is the mid 200's. I am using a 38.5 inch offset feed dish with a DIY feed horn made from a 16 in long 116 mm inside diameter aluminum pipe 3/8 inch thick. I had an aluminum plate welded to one end and I am using a type N chassis mount connector with a brass 1/4 wave stub tuned with a VNA.

They are a great stove, really heavy though, I have used mine many time to feed groups of reenactors. Some that are here in Aus have been adapted to our jerry can spout, and some not. In my case I had to find a US military jerry can with the wide opening mouth. Getting the heat right can be a bit tricky, but one you experiment a few times it works a treat. Just wish I could find this film in good nick.

They should have had an ad that mentions that both men and women can be officers in the United States Air Force either on active duty or in the reserves. Addressing high school students that want to go to college in which he mentions that the air force will pay for tuition, room and board, books, uniforms, and will give you a stipend for expenses such as meals, and incidentals. On graduation, you get a commission as an Air Force officer. When you serve out the obligation, no debt from going to school.

Hello Carl, Thanks for posting such a cool video on WWII radios. My dad was a radio operator with 102nd Infantry Division, 405th Regiment, 3rd Battalion HQ Company. In his diaries he mentions carrying the BC-1000/SCR-300, operating the BC-610, and also setting up the SCR-284. Several people that follow my FB page have relatives (father or grandfather) that were radio men in the 102nd. I am going to put a link for this video on my page so that they can see what was involved. I have 2 BC-1000/SCR-300s and two BC-659s (set up on WWII jeeps). I have only powered up one of the backpack radios, the wiring is foreign to me and I don't want to blow anything up :) Thanks again for this video. If you have any other WWII radio info, it would be great if you posted to my site www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiP-dqKyIngAhXLz4MKHTD5DVkQFjAEegQIBxAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2F405th102dOzarks%2F&usg=AOvVaw3Eb15cxZCes2rvb4e86vlM -Dave

I see pairs and singles a lot, but they are often far away and I would like to inspect them. Work usually makes me miss the local annual MVPA meeting but people say they show up, but you almost never find good inner rings I'm told. It's hard to pay shipping per wheel for stuff you haven't seen in person. I'd like a set to put NDT tires on for events/off road and have the others with my Super Lugs on for road use.
