Commodore 64 and Amiga Memories
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 22 เม.ย. 2012
This channel will begin as a "tape loader" archive. Initially for the C64. My aim is to more or less have all the tape loaders from the major publishers and some of the minor ones. A question is why? Well, most of my memories of the C64 has to do with tape games as this is mostly what i had. Often the games had loading screens/instructions and or music that often complimented the game enormously. This was frequently missing from the disk based versions of same game. I think it would be good to have a clean naming convention where searching would be easy and everything is in one place. Playlists of publishers will be created for extra convenience.
Perhaps later on we might do longplay's/walkthrough's of games that are not already done. My priority will be the adventure/graphic text games as often these were way to difficult for me and my pre-teen mind from back in the day. Perhaps a second try after all these years would help! :D

Commodore 64 Longplay SSI Dragon Strike Knight of the Crown 1990
Now this game was quite difficult. I think the 5th and 11th missions has some missing video, otherwise rest of game is there.
I played this extensively on the Amiga back in the day, and i can immediately see the differences.
Some C64 key differences.
- Unique Picture for each mission missing.
- Dragon Graphics for the player missing.
- Different skill level. Some things are easier, other harder, like trying to take out forts in the C64 is very difficult.
- no where near as good sound or music as the Amiga.
- The Gas Bags/Draconians cause MAJOR damage on the C64, if your unlucky enough to be hit by the explosion.
- Otherwise the story elements appear to be exactly the same.
I played the Knight of the Crown stream, which basically means the easy level. You can play the Knight of the Sword and Knight of the Rose, which basically has more levels and different endings (it continues after the crown with several missions more each). You also get different and stronger dragons, items/equipment after missions.
I nearly gave up on this longplay. I really dont think most people would have finished it back in the day. I mean some area's i was getting about 3 max frames per seconds. Relies on luck more than skill to get a hit with the lance. I wont play the other streams. Check my Amiga longplay of the same game.
Still this game really pushed the C64, and i think it was the only release on an 8-bit.

C64 is a classic, the sound of a working floppy disk drive, the music from the game, no wonder it's the most popular home computer in history
Back when Ubisoft made good games lol. Never seen this one. Game looks great for the day and this music is fantastic.
Days of our lives ❤😢
looks like Nova load Hmmm
Nobody knows how great the Telarium adventure games are. But I played and still own ALL of them!
I saw this game as a kid on my big brother's c64 and was somehow mesmerized by the jungle graphics and the mysterious atmosphere... but I wanted so bad for something exciting to happen. It never did. Just confusion.
Yes, it seems to be a sentiment of many. Someone had done a longplay of this but only seemed to have uploaded the ending. It would have been good to see what your were supposed to do exactly.
loving the musical intro to this one.
This is a damn good version of this game...
It looks amazing for an 8 bit
Yes, completely agree. The disk loading was reasonable also, all things considering.
**** COMMODORE 64 BASIC V2 **** 64K RAM SYSTEM 38911 BASIC BYTES FREE Ah, I remember it like it was yesterday! Well, maybe the day _before_ yesterday...
Very nostalgic!
Agree. I enjoyed this game quite a lot when making the longplay. The premise is very good. The game is based on a rather extensive novel series made by the same author. Shame the developer only made one game with the game engine.
I saw this and thought ooooo an Amiga game I was totally into cos it was so good. c64 v doesn't look too bad considering
I still have this legendary sequel (boxed, tape) to THE LAST NINJA for my Commodore 64 🐱👍🕹️. DEFINITELY THE BEST 😺👍🕹️!
I dont think ive ever come across an original last ninja disk or tape. Ive only ever seen it the pack, Six Sizzlers, which was a very prolific pack in Australia at the time.
It's wild to see just how far we've come in terms of loading times since these kinds of games, though there's something also soothing about hearing it load hehe
OH man, I played the crap outta HOMM3. To this day, it still has an online community and updated gameplay. Very excited to watch this one. Thanks again!
I played all the HOMM up to about 6. For sure HOMM3 was the best, though i thought that HOMM2 was a relatively close second. I bought all these original for the PC, which i no longer have in physical.
First and Hell Ya! Also Merry Xmas!
This brings back memories. One of the first games I had as a kid.
OK, seen this game played before but looking forward to seeing you rock it.
Thanks. I made one for the C64 also.
Man, how do you not have more views, these videos are awesomes!
It still a small channel and the TH-cam algorithm hasnt quite come around yet.
@@C64_and_Amiga_Memories Well please keep up the great videos of these classic video games. Been nice seeing a bunch I have not seen before. As... I have seen quite a many long plays. Easily 1000's of them, so always nice to find a fresh new collection to go through. Thanks again! The Loaders are an interesting collection as well. Amazing if you own all of them. I might go through those as well we shall see. Anything I do get to seeing though I will always give a "thumbs up" hope that helps at least.
dat freeze ball lol
My childhood favorite classic game on my Amiga 500 😺👍🕹️. If i could find this game in the original box for my Commodore 64 and/or Amiga 500, that would be retrospectively pawsome 🐾 😺👍🕹️. JUST... ABSOLUTELY... BRILLIANT 😺👍🕹️!
I purchased Zzap 64 / Commodore User each month and was blown away by the screenshots. Bob Stevenson was a superb artist. Top game, enjoyed watching this. Well done! It's been a while since I last uploaded an adventure.....
Glad you enjoyed it. Just a shame about the disk loading.
Is there a way to NOT emulate the slowness of the 1541 disk drive? I itchin' to try programming a game on a Commodore 64 like 8-Bit Guy's PETSCII Robots.
Im not sure if there is a way to not record the loading, unless it is edited out. At least with the drive emulation, it is exactly like the way you would have played it. The only way it could be done, without editing, is if there was a .CRT release, like my recent Buck Rogers longplay. Basically a cracking group needs to release it as such.
Interesting. It seems SSI were using their AD&D game engine.
Indeed they were. They also made a sequel, Matrix Cubed that only made it on the PC.
The French comic magazine is great. Awesome drawings. Reminds me of Manara.
The end sequence looks bugged. Bad crack? Sirius used fierce protection on their disk games and this was never released outside US. Do you own the original yourself?
I dont own the original myself but i recently came across this site www.commodoregames.net/fs/index.htm# and it has the original for use in an emulator. I used a cracked version for the longplay, and yes, i did notice the glitch, though it was not a game breaking bug. I dont have the snapshots anymore to potentially see a non glitched version. The site i gave has the largest archive ive seen of original images. If the site is down. just try again a little later. It often goes offline for a few hours.
Everytime i look at these old graphical adventure games, it makes me want to switch on my Commodore 64 and Amiga 500 and play the old Point 'n' Click / text adventure games 😺👍🕹️. They are absolutely legendary and inspiring 😺👍🕹️. A big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
Nice to see you liked it. Would you know of where i can find a copy of part II for the Amiga? I can only find the French version. The C64 i found no problem.
Played it on my Amiga 500. Never got very far.
How much is this game worth?
I used to spent days playing this game! If i remember well Italy only joined entente IF you did too well in the first year of the war :D
I did the graphics for the loader (book etc), Satu and Willy In The Castle Of Dreams. Awesome seeing it again.
Nice to have another original developer dropping in to see their work. It was certainly an original loader, the book, and the 'fake' Atari ST operating system boot. Shame only one 'book' type intro was made and rest were the standard type menu's? Why didnt Amiga Power continue similar iterations Disk 15?
@@C64_and_Amiga_Memories It would've been upto the developers of the game. We created the presentation as it looked so cool, other developers simply didn't follow suit.
oh and if you look at the mental image game disk one, there's a spinning disk variant.
Maybe it's my inner old self talking, but in the 80s and 90s computer games were more fun and interesting.
I didn't know this game at the time. Interesting
I actually saw this game quite extensively advertised in the magazines of the time. I think all Thalamus games had the same full page adverts for their entire catalogue.
@C64_and_Amiga_Memories Here in Brazil, the Amiga was manufactured but we could only get pirated games. That's why I didn't know many of them, others I only saw in magazines, and some I don't even remember.
@@jhsjr1955 Yes, makes sense. Was the Amiga actually manufactured in Brazil or just officially imported? In Australia they had quite a lot of authorized selllers and repairers but i dont recall any actual manufacturers.
@C64_and_Amiga_Memories Years before, a company called Sharp (not related international company) and Gradiente manufactured the MSX in Brazil. So, I was sure that the Amiga had been manufactured here too, but now I'm thinking it was just imported.
I remember seeing an ad for this in Compute! magazine. Interesting to finally see it.
If your into these types of adventures, it probably the pinnacle of the era, and only let down by the disc access. It would really help if a scener would make a .crt of it so it can be used on a real C64
I've waited 35 years to see the ending! I couldn't finish it as a kid
seeing the ending or when i got stuck in a game as a kid is a main reason i love making longplays. Glad you enjoyed it
Text games are so awesome, thank you for showing these! Very entertaining!
Glad you like them!
Über Emulator?
Yes, via VICE. Though the images i use on all the loaders are 100% original, being in G64 format. No cracks and they will run just like a store bought original. Back in the day i virtually never had original software on disk and there seems to be a lot of stuff the crackers took out.
I'm also using the VICE emulator. I put the CORRUPTION ROM in the emulator and I get this message-> PLEASE SWAP YOUR DISK 00:41 from there what do I do to start the game? how do I change the disk in the emulator? you did this when you played at minute 00:41 the message-> PLEASE SWAP YOUR DISK 00:41 then you changed the disk and continued the game. how do I change the disk?
You can use ALT F8 and that would bring up the file menu where you input the disk or side of the disk you want. Alternatively you can use the file menu in the drop down menu of the emulator to do the same thing. Please only post a question once and not multiple times as i had to delete the other same posts.

I am subscribed to your channel when this message appears-> PLEASE SWAP YOUR DISK 00:41 , what do I do to start the game?
This is a longplay video, i used an emulator to play it and it showcases how it would be completed if you used real hardware. Im not really sure what your asking

Fury does return in Transylvania 3.
i solved this back in the day.. however i never solved Transylvania 3
Workbench 9.1 . Deluxe Paint 420. Dude I have so many games on disk. I scored at a garage sale. got a big box of stuff from a guy who worked on them. couple built 2000HD's I kept everything. Cheers. Thank you for doing this. Not many people know where all this started from.
Arkanoid, Thexter, Shadow of the Dragon, Space ranger, Space spuds 3-D. (still have the 3-D glasses/goggles). wonder what they're worth. a buck two eighty. Lol.
Nice to hear. I really enjoy making these as im particularly interested in the 1990 - 1994, where i basically had access to an amiga, whether it was mine or friends.
4:38 The computer has indigestion 🤣
Damn, just noticed that. I think my video compressor made an error and didnt tell me. Im quite sure i didnt record it that way...
1:29 The illuminati one eye thing gets everywhere
Is this original hardware or an emulator?
Its an Emulator (WinUAE). I made a couple of previously made mistakes when i was recording it. Number 1, i didnt stop the video in order to save it when i loaded a save state. This essentially deletes the unsaved video and starts a new one. Another is used a bad codec, which eventuated into audio sync issues.
Oops, i was specifically talking about my longplay of this game. That aside, Its an original disk image. I dont think it will work in a real C64 Disk drive (if it had any copy protection) but would likely work in my U2+ cart.
@@C64_and_Amiga_Memories WinUAE is the one I use. A good one. Did you know if you hold down the keys End and Pause it toggles warp mode in WinUAE. The Amiga one.
@@Emulous79 Ah, didnt now that. Unfortunately my Surface book 2 does not have a 'pause' key. It does have an end key though :D
@@C64_and_Amiga_Memories The pause key on mine is also the Break key, next to Scroll Lock. Kensington keyboard, lovvie.
I had a Commodore 64. I was 10 in 1989. This Game was really hard to play And was absolutely awful.
Great game. IMHO the better Paradroid. OK, not from a technic point of view.
How do you control the minigames of this game? Do you know where one could find the manual?
Sorry dont know where to find it. I normally use www.mocagh.org/ but thats usually best for rpgs/adventures...
@@C64_and_Amiga_Memoriesthanks for the answer, I too checked all sources I know but couldn't find it. Well, most of it can be figured out. I'm playing it on WinUAE with a simple Laptop. Do still know how you controlled your robot in the power plant/ball game? For me the game doesn't react to my keyboard/mouse inputs when I enter the minigames. I fear it's joystick controlled but I don't know.
Incorrect. This is how the disc version starts too. Once you've completed the rather brief text adventure bit, you'll move onto the graphic adventure section. The major difference between the tape and disc versions is the inability to backtrack once you've cleared a section, and further to this, chunks of the game are missing/shortened to both account for potentially missing key items and reducing loading between sections (as this is one hell of a multiload)
Thanks for that. Its been such a long time since i played the disk version.
