The Art of Lettering and Unpredictability in Tattooing: A Conversation with Angel Bustos
The journey to becoming a professional tattoo artist can be long and filled with challenges, often requiring a delicate balance between stable employment and the pursuit of a passion for tattooing.
This is exemplified in the story of Angel Bustos, who began his tattooing journey in 1994 at a young age, inspired by his older brother. Despite his early start, Angel faced numerous obstacles that shaped his path to becoming a respected tattoo artist who brings 30 years of experience to the conversation.
Angel unveils the inspiration behind his graffiti-infused lettering style and the episode kicks off with a discussion about the importance of security and stability in life decisions, particularly in the context of family responsibilities and the unpredictable nature of a career in tattooing.
Aaron shares his own journey, highlighting the challenges of balancing a stable income with the desire for creative freedom as an independent contractor. The episode is recorded live at the Golden State Tattoo Expo in Pasadena, California, where Aaron connects with fellow tattoo enthusiasts and artists, setting the stage for a rich exchange of stories and insights from the tattoo industry.

Great back story ! Angel Tatts always inspired me 💯
love this one !
Know her from and an old gym I use to go to near Long Beach/ Signal Hill... She had a nasty judgmental personality and would gossip about other gym members constantly.

Met Philip at a show in Orlando and he was such a nice, down to earth person. It’s rare to meet someone as influential as him and find out they’re so humble and kind.
Such a genuine guy and an absolute beast of an artist! Truly the best out there
Nice to see Stefano ❤all what you asked here i heard many times before😂So hope for part two you ll be more prepared and ask him more interesting questions😊
Can't wait for part 2!
Awesome! my new fav
Stoked to hear that! 🔥
This isn't the GEN13 guy! what the heck!! ..... great interview. keep em coming!!
Legend❤
Jesse Rix is an amazing tattoo artist. Love him! I got inspired by him and designed my own tattoo in his style for my breast/shoulder. Wish I could have get it done by him, but I'm from Germany so it isn't that easy. So I got it done halve a year ago here in Germany. And I'm really happy with the result and thankful for his inspiration.
We will be in Frankfurt at the end of March for Gods of Ink!!
@@chatsandtatts You and Jesse, too? 😯
@@chatsandtatts That's great news! Will try to visit you. Is there a possibility for a booking?
knowing how to make plastic explosives is an integral part of knowledge everyone should know.

You should get Craig Driscoll on next
I NEED that wallpaper !!!
Wow!!! Nice to meet you Dustin!!! Love this!!!
Aaron I remember when you were a kid in Vegas and all your amazing drawings!❤️ Love ya! Carol Ann
I'm a deisel mechanic, learning to tattoo on fake skin, but I work 5 days a week 12hours
Carlos Torres is the goat 🐐!!!🔥🔥🔥
100%!
Great Episode! Carlos is a long time friend and such an inspiration for his peaceful nature and ability to keep his head down and focus on being the best he can be.
Thanks for watching!!
AI is not that good yet tbh .
Idk hard work really doesn’t mean shit anymore. Just gotta have titties tbh !
In regard to the censorship convo, Elon only takes pages down when they start noticing. I have a feeling Carlos knows what Im talking about. P.s. great episode
You were absolutely right about that Hillary comment, should have kept ur dumb mouth shut. Now that I know you’re a MAGA nazi this will be the last time I watch. So much for the good vibes.
Great chat! I felt the energy in this one. I’m still amazed at the amount of great tattooers that started out like I and built a homemade machine. We had one tattoo shop in town when I started and a handful of scratchers that learned in prison.
Still tons of scratchers today, some of which in the shops lmao
That’s what I’m talking about! It’s not about the equipment, it’s about the talent and the passion🔥
@@chatsandtatts Indeed
The interviews are dragging on endlessly, each one feeling more tedious than the last, leaving me fighting off waves of drowsiness as the monotony washes over me. Iron will is more interesting
Yessir 🔥🔥
In response to the comments about censorship -after making the switch from facebook and x to bluesky I can honestly say it’s very beneficial to not have maga people screaming at me constantly about how I am going to be euthanized for having a trans child now that Trump is president. You talk alot about echo chambers being a bad thing but I think its important to realize that alot of us literally feel unsafe in this new world online. When the echo chamber is threatening to kill you, it’s time to move on. That’s why you created Guru right, to make a better place? Maybe you dont see it, because you aren’t subject to this sort of comments, but as a father of a trans child, it’s now us vs them. Every single neighbor with a Trump sign may become a threat to my family once trans care is banned. I can’t possibly see how allowing hate speech to run rampant on social media is ever a good thing. Why does someone like Andrew Tate deserve a voice?🤷🏼♂️
This is so inspiring! My son is a tattoo artist and had a Stroke. His ability to draw and his ability to tattoo on artificial skin is there but he has not tattooed on a human yet. He is not verbal as clear as you are but he can be understood. I am definitely going to send this video to him. THANK YOU!
Thank you Aaron 🙌
It’s so easy to see how humble and how thankful and kind Niko is. He’s so incredibly genuine and it’s so apparent for the best possible reasons. What a legend! Great episode.
Purple Crown!
tattoos are just a douchy ed hardy shirt you cant ever take off
😂😂😂 good one!
Great episode i related a lot ive struggled long time ended up serving 15 years locked up and since I got out 2 years ago I haven't looked back and just focused all on my tattoo career I've met a couple of leading tattoo figures and so blessed I've completely emerged myself in tattooing and love all of it now I'm getting ready to do a show with two artists i look up too life is great thanks for this episode puts more hope in my sails ⛵️
That really warms my heart! My whole reason for doing the show is to spread inspiration to others and create deep conversations that need to happen. Thank you for writing your comment and letting me know that you liked the episode! I wish you the best on your tattoo adventure ahead!
My factory was talking about finances and asking people about what they do and how they’ve gotten to be where they are! I’m also a stylist and this totally hit me!!!!
Both of my kids go crazy when they go to their friends houses! It’s crazy! We eat so healthy and I wish other people would eat healthier

This guy could fight in the UFC and maybe even rank in the top ten.
Omgosh this was horrible! I mean a cliffhanger!?? 😝 I need more of these chats especially the finance 😂 no seriously great podcast and the Tattoo is beyond!! And remember folks A bored me is a dangerous me 😮 There should be a second part to this one!

Always great to see Philip! Miss you Bro!
Awesome Podcast, Awesome Stories, and Awesome people. Love everything, but dislike the jumping in the video due to editing. Whether it is to prevent something said from being on here or to save time in the video, it takes the life and personality out of the interview. let people talk, let them be theirselves, and let them have their own words heard how they intended
Glad you liked the podcast! And yeah I hear you. I’ll talk to my people and see if we can let things run longer. I think they’re just trying to keep it not too long due to the attention span of most people, but I am with you if I’m into a podcast I’m happy to burn three hours! Anyways, I appreciate your honest feedback!
YAY! Just like Moby ? 'Vegan For Life' #punkrockveganmovie #moby 👍
Aaron, this is Susan from your, John's and your dad's past life in Vegas. I happened upon this channel and WOW. I was there when Dustin came into being and, even then, i wondered if you two would meet and be a part of each other's lives in the future. This is beyond cool. I'm so happy to know of your amazing Holly, your daughters and now Dustin. I found out my own story is of another father (not the great guy who raised me) and that i have seven 1/2 siblings and a huge extended family. I've been with my guy for 19 years and am very happy. I believe your dad is, too, as he's still with Jan. The Della Vedovas were a lifetime ago, but you all still matter to me and have a very special place in my heart. Again, great to have seen this!
Susan! So cool to hear from you! I’m so glad you were able to find me and hear my family story. Thank you for the comment and nothing but love for you always always! Wishing you the best!
