Hello, everyone!
We’re so excited to share an update about our journey as we prepare for our overland trip to Africa with Mochi, our trusty Mercedes T1 van. In this video, we’ll take you through:
• Our current situation after moving back to Germany,
• What’s happening with Mochi,
• And the next steps as we tackle challenges and prepare for this incredible adventure!
Current Situation:
A month ago, we returned to Germany after spending seven years living in Switzerland. Moving back meant officially registering in Germany, and we’re currently staying at Norman’s parents’ apartment. A huge thank you to Mario and Lily for making this possible-we are so lucky and grateful for their support!
What’s Happening with Mochi:
Mochi has been successfully imported through customs, but now we need to register it and get German number plates. During the vehicle safety control, they found a few issues that need to be resolved, including work on the brake system and minor adjustments. Mochi is currently at the garage, and we’re hopeful everything will be fixed in a few days.
What’s Going on with Us:
On the administrative side, there is a lot to do!
• Mélanie is waiting for my passport and ID to be processed at the French embassy in Berlin.
• We’ve applied for new driving licenses since we exchanged ours for Swiss ones during our time there. Now, we need to swap them again for German or European licenses before applying for international ones.
• And, of course, we still need to get our vaccinations done, but we’re waiting on confirmation from our health insurance to proceed.
Getting Ready for the Road:
Everything we own is here with us now. We’re sorting through what we’ll take on the trip and what we’ll leave behind for when we return. Meanwhile, we’re also making a few improvements to Mochi, like installing a rubbish bin and working on some electrical fixes. As any van owner knows, it’s a never-ending story!
The Goal:
We’re aiming to leave by mid-February, but with so many administrative delays, some things are out of our hands. It’s all part of the journey, and we’re staying positive as we check off these final steps.
