Detectorists Incidental Music
Your search is over! At last, you have found your gold!
I'm guessing you found this video because, not only do you love Detectorists, but you also love all the music throughout the series.
This is a roughly edited compilation of lots of incidental music from Detectorists, my favourite series probably of all time.
I made this purely for me to listen to while I work so I haven't been too worried about leaving in random bits of dialogue, sound effects and foley audio - I just love the many music cues and interstitial audio so it's very rough and ready but I figured, if I like it, someone else might like it too.
As you listen I hope you will be reminded of the many beautiful scenes and characters.
All copyrights belong to their respective owners but a big thank you to Johnny Flynn for the theme (not included) and Dan Michaelson who scored it (and who also was kind enough to send me some of the music which I have included).
And of course biggest thanks of all to Mackenzie Crook, Toby Jones and the cast and crew for producing the most wonderful series ever.

Watched this show in autumn 2023. Beautiful score and beautiful show. Music really gives a sense of nostalgia.
Thanks for doing this Chris. Discovered the show in Dec 2023 and fell for it immediately. I love hiking and the sights and sounds of the British countryside. The music is wonderful, fits perfectly and strikes a chord deep in my soul ♥

So is it Dan Michaelson who made the majority of the music in this video then? I know Johnny Flynn did the main intro/outro and I love that 🙂
Yes all the incidental bits are all by Dan Michaelson (basically the fabric of the show), the theme is Johnny Flynn.

Great, but i wish this short, but gorgeous piece of incidental music had been included too. It's at 25 minutes 30 seconds into episode 2 series 1. It also comes up again briefly in a later series where a mosaic has been unearthed by Andy.
Yes it's lovely but there's too much dialogue on it to make it listenable, sadly.

I love, love, love this series and the music. I especially like the music used at the beginning of Season 2 while the monk is burying the gold. I hope they release an album of all the music in the series.

1:50 Would love to hear an extended version to that piece of music. It’s a good scene as well, fits it perfectly. Should of perhaps merged first and third together since they’re the same tunes… otherwise cheers for posting this
Wonderful. Enjoyed this Chris. A wonderful programme - calmness and pure escapism. Like Jaidee1guy, I myself am trying this new hobby of Metal Detecting. The peace of being in the woods or a field searching for treasure will be good for my soul, and doing my gold dance one day would be fantastic. Looking forward to visiting Framlingham later this year too.

I was obsessed with Johnny Flynn before the Detectorists was made, and then couldn’t believe he wrote the theme to now one of my favourite series of all time. I proposed to my wife via making a small video, and used the detectorists theme song. Thank you for this video, it means a lot
The first and third track give me so many deep emotions. I get this incredible sense of sadness like I'm peering into the traumatic depths of someone's past. Like something has happened, and it mattered, but ill never know why.

This is the music I originally contacted Dan Michaelson about (he scored it). It is purely a music cue and was never made into a full track sadly. It's beautiful isn't it?

Lovely! They really need to release a Detectorists sound track. But the one score I was hoping to hear included in this was from Season 2, Episode 1 (monk fleeing from the knights). I cannot find any info on this track. Does anyone know any info? Is it by Johnny Flynn?
That is the one piece of music I want to find from this show. I loved it and have never been able it anywhere.

Agreed! We need a full 2 or 3 CDs' worth of Detectorists soundtrack for all seasons plus specials. Come on, Mackenzie and crew!
I have found out for you! It is by Dan Michaelson 👍 I asked him and he said yes it was his work in that mok fleeing scene. He has some nice music on his website, you should check it out.

I really think that this Detectorist series was made for many including myself,I relate quite a bit to Lance and Andy. I'll be retiring real soon and so I am trying this new hobby of Metal Detecting,I really like the peace of being in the woods or a field searching for treasure and doing my gold dance one day.😊🙏💰💰💰💰💰💰
Even though I've never once gone metal detecting, I probably was more highly impacted in an emotional way by the show than any other show in existence. The music, the metaphors and analogies. On the outside it is such a boring looking show. I scrolled over it on Roku TV 100 times before clicking on it. And I honestly would have clicked 100 times sooner had I known what I was missing. I rewatch this show religiously. Its beyond amazing. Its pure art.
I think the beauty of this show is that everyone can relate in some way. In a harmless way it points out our ridiculous qualities and makes us giggle at ourselves. For me it's "did you see University Challenge last night?"
