Lake of the Woods Overnight Ice Fishing Trip 2023
Nice video love hunting grouse up in the U.P of Michigan can be a lot of fun. Nice shed you found?
Thanks! The grouse numbers are down a bit this year but you can't beat getting out.
5:00 iv only ever been in big woods where u can see in between trees and drive four wheelers thru them. That kind of atmosphere gives me anxiety lol its like it never ends
Yes, it is some wild country there. It goes on for miles and miles and miles!
Nice work!
My boys being boys ❤ I cannot believe you found that shed! What a day!!!
Kyle, is that tree-climbing device intended for hunters, or is it an arborist's tool?
Nice hunt in terrain a little less intimidating than where you and Derek were hunting elk in September! Aspen gold is in full force I see.
No challenging topography to deal with here!
The elk in Washington can be shy sometimes. Sometimes it’s just about putting in the miles and going with people won’t go try to get off the road as much as you can. Good job, fellas.
They certainly seemed shy on this trip. We had fun and enjoyed seeing that part of the country.
Washington elk herds are in bad shape , mismanaged and to may cow tag as well as predators killing calves, department of fish and Game manages tags not quality elk hunting.
If you ever want to go to Idaho for mule deer and elk let me know. Live in Wisconsin now but born and raised in idaho.
Thanks! I'm going to try to start going west for a hunt every year or two. I told myself I would do that 11 years ago but have only done it twice. I'll reach out to you if this ends up being a hunt we want to do.
@wildernessenthusiast4307 not a problem. I helped a few older gents back in the day that were from Wisconsin get their elk and deer and never seen anyone so thrilled about it so it's always good for the soul to help a fellow hunter get that experience I've had
What camera are you using?
Gopro hero 8
@@wildernessenthusiast4307 what settings lol I have a hero 11 that I use elk hunting in Idaho and I can’t get it to pull that much light
Great hunt , you got a nice grouse ! Excellent eating !
The best wild game out there!
You were in some fine Elk country and got close to bulls , sometimes it just doesn’t come together! Muzzleloader season , sure why not that’s Elk country that you were in !
Great video well done ! Looks like you are hunting in my country where I’ve spend years exploring and hunting! I live in Port Angeles,WA !! Well done I enjoyed the video and always that country even though it’s rugged !
Thank you! That is some beautiful, rugged country. We might be back in a year or two if things work out!
@@wildernessenthusiast4307 If you get the time to return to this area , it’s great Elk country ! Rugged it is that with steep canyons in areas !
Kyle, I thoroughly enjoyed the video! It was nice meeting you and Derek in person. I do wish I could have been of more help and that the elk had been hot into the rut; but at least you didn't close the video with: "Damn it, Will, what'd you get us into?" 😁 Glad you recovered your release. Incidentally, can you send me coordinates on the Chicken of The Woods mushroom you spotted? 😋
Thanks! It was great to meet you and you were more help than you think. I was looking for an adventure and that's exactly what we got. I'll send the coordinates your way soon.
What an awesome experience and location, fellas! You put plenty of miles on the boots!
You got that right!
Great job on the video, it was a fun hunt! Thanks for dragging me along. We will be back!
Glad to hear that!
Awesome you made it out this way! I live in Kingston WA
We drove right past you! Sure is a beautiful area by you!

This is minnesota?

That rain sure has plagued so many adventures in the last year! Some great finds this spring, buddy!
@@jeremymaslowski7723 sure have had some challenges due to it! Thank you!

nice haul
Without disclosing the location could you tell me the general area where you are at?
I try to hit a few different places each spring throughout NE MN. Sorry, that's as specific as I'll get
I’m so grateful for how you recorded this trip, this is my dream hunt and seeing y’all makes it feel more attainable!
It is definitely attainable with the right gear and preparation for a fall trip. Let me know if you have any questions. Have fun!
My friends and i started on lake one and went through 2, 3, 4, hudson lake, and to Insula i believe. It was 18 miles. Best time of my life! Awesome video man
That sure is a beautiful area and Insula is so unique with all the islands, it is like a maze out there. Thanks for watching!
@@wildernessenthusiast4307 oh man it sure is. I thought I was happy when they (my friends) said "Jay you're in charge of the map, now don't get us lost" 😭
@@hoopdocs I was 19 the first time I was on Insula and was in charge of the map. I remember my one buddy getting mad that I kept stopping to read the map. I said "hey, you're not the one navigating!"
Where about's you at? Believe it or not, I like to stay as far away from shed hunters that I can.
Who says holey shmoley anymore ?
Hi Marshall and Michelle!
I can’t believe that shed!
I can’t believe you found that many paddles!! Do you usually look around clear cuts then?
I will admit I struck out a few years when I started getting into moose shed hunting. Over time you start to really dial it in and figure out their wintering habits. Yes, I look in clear cuts where they have good woody browse for the winter. I'm trying a brand new area this spring, stay tuned for hopefully another good find!
Your experience made me think of my bad times in Minnesota winter camping, thanks for making the effort and sharing your real time experience.
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video
Love it when a plan comes together! Let's hope that will be the case come this September!
Nice trip, and nice fish, Kyle! It's been over half-a-century since I've tasted Lake Trout, but the memory remains fond. Snow did hit here last night and temperatures have dropped. Think I'll keep an eye on the weather reports for the east side of the Cascades with the idea of trying ice fishing one more time. That pretty scenery and calm weather you experienced -- I'm not a fan of high winds, or even light breezes in sub-zero weather -- is inspiring. Good luck on your next venture.
I hope you will be able to get out fishing. We had some brutal conditions last weekend on the trip. Lows were -19 F with strong winds. I'm glad to be done sleeping in a tent for a bit!
Nice video looks like it was a great time👍👍
Thank you! It sure was
Winter Camping Pro! Heck of a nice backdrop too. Great job, fellas!

That sunrise ☀️ and all those beautiful fish! Great adventure for sure! Nailed it.
Beautiful vlog!! Keep it coming!! Just here supporting one fellow beginner everyday in their TH-cam Journey. All the best!!
Much appreciated! Keep up the great videos as well!!
I think that's a cool (and smart) practice for helping others! I'm not a TH-cam content producer, but I'll reciprocate on Kyle's (Wilderness Enthusiast) behalf. Who knows? If I can recover some health and energy, I just might start an "Old Fart Outdoors" channel! I'm son of an American WW2 combat vet who reenlisted a couple years after he'd served with the 163rd Engineer (C) Battalion. During the second tour, while serving with The United States Constabulary (occupation forces), Dad met a young German woman, a DP (Displaced Person) who'd fled her home in Silesia ahead of advancing Soviet Forces. Ursula was working at the snack bar of PX (Post Exchange) in Stuttgart. I am the product of that fraternization. My folks were married for fifty-three years when Dad died after a life-long cigarette addiction. Mom spent another seventeen years grieving her loss before she passed away. Kornwestheim is my original home in Germany, though only as an infant and toddler. I do have fond memories of a visiting relatives in 1964 and touring around some of western Europe at that time. The Black Forest and Bavarian mountains seemed so lush and scenic to me at the time because I was growing up on the edge of the Mojave Desert! Good luck with your venture. I subscribed and, at a minimum, I'll watch your old railroad bridge video when I have a bit more time. (I've always enjoy finding long-abandoned structures and artifacts in areas reverted to the wild.)
was that a fat bike trick off the rock, in the start of the video?
Sure was!!
Legit saw that too 😂
Dang man your tearing it up! Absolutely loved it!!
