Podcast that was created to celebrate the accomplishments of The Culture in Film and Television. While we discuss all genres, we wanted to emphasize giving flowers to the films and filmmakers who are overlooked by the mainstream media.
Episode 100: Four Brothers
Welcome back to The Culture Garden Podcast-and this week, we're celebrating a HUGE milestone: Episode 100! 🎉 The gang is back together to kick off this special episode with a trip down memory lane. We’ll spend the first 40 minutes reflecting on how we got here-our early podcast memories, whether we ever thought we’d make it to 100 episodes, some of our favorite moments, and a few behind-the-scenes stories. It’s a celebration of all the incredible listeners and supporters who’ve helped us grow and evolve over the years.
Then, we’re diving into a film that’s near and dear to our hearts: Four Brothers (2005), directed by John Singleton. We’ll discuss how this movie indirectly led to the creation of The Culture Garden Podcast, how it embodies elements of blaxploitation, and the iconic soundtrack that sets the tone. Plus, we’ll have a candid conversation about Mark Wahlberg’s portrayal of Bobby Mercer (was he taking it too far?), the unforgettable villain Victor Sweet, and so much more.
We wouldn’t have reached 100 episodes without YOU, our Culture Garden family. Thank you for your unwavering support. Here's to 100 more!
Cheers, and as always, y'all be cool how y’all be cool. ✌🏾

I think it is one of the best movies between 2010-2020 but I also think part of the reason could be bc of COVID. yall always ask questions that get me wanting to answer outlaid and have conversation lmaooo
Thank you so much for sharing your platform!❤️ S/O to all my fellow Stoop Kids!!!
Of course! We're looking forward to more episodes!
Get Out is by far the best movie theater experience I’ve ever had. Saw it in DC and I know the audience reacted exactly the way Jordan Peele imagined we would. The police car at the end of the movie was the cherry on top for audience reaction. The difference between the Black audience members and the few white audience members there was so clear.
Thank you for sharing this with us! I will never forget being in that theater and every black person reacting exactly the same to every critical moment. It was an incredible theater experience
One of the most underrated hidden gem movies maybe ever in cinema history. Honestly it’s been almost 10 years since the release of Beyond The Lights, and I’ve yet to see another film of a romantic drama genre come anywhere near this masterpiece since. I watched it 4 times in the theater in 2014. It never gets old. Each time I watch it, I get something new out of it. Director Gina Prince Bythewood is a genius. Between this, Love And Basketball, The Secret Life Of Bees and most recently The Old Guard and The Woman King, Gina is really one of the most underrated directors in Hollywood today. And the acting of Gugu Mbatha Raw, Minnie Driver and Nate Parker was Oscar Worthy. Gugu in particular should have became a huge movie star after this but while she’s done a lot of TV and film work since, she’s never really taken off and became a leading A list level headliner, as talented as she is as an actress.
A true masterpiece of a movie. There’s never been another movie quite like Beyond The Lights since 2014, as great as Sylvie’s Love, The High Note and The Photograph were, none of them could fully touch this film. It’s truly an underrated hidden gem of a movie
Wait… Ray P watches “From”?!??
Kmk
This some bs!
The Joshua Tree episode is the single most funniest episode of television ever created along with the episode of Succession when Logan got the UTI😂 Surprised this wasn’t higher all the lists as Vince did come to a decision on whether to do Benji or not. Excited to listen to the rest!
Que engaño

Wheeeewwwwww!!!!! Ray P be KNOWING!!!!!! That’s all I’m gonna say this episode lol. Amazing🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
You guys are amazing! Once again, super entertaining and HILARIOUS episode lol… and I won’t ruin the name of the wild dragon, but it’s very much on the nose lol🖤🖤🖤
Loved this conversation!🖤🖤🖤 If you haven’t- look into Cregan Stark and the role he’s going to play in all of this.
Dope solo episode
Last episode seemed rushed like they skipped alotta steps
I too was late to the party with GOT. But, I did watch it before HOD though lol… this is amazing television. It’s a breath of fresh air. So happy y’all are covering this!!!
Aylesia had it done to control trigg
Music at miss barkleys house
Ive been watching this movie since 95 and o didn't know until today that they were supposed to be 14-15! That puts things in perspective and now i know why Jason had a basketball in some of those deleted scenes. I guess he had hoop dreams. The age factor also makes the police brutality in the film even more "brutal"
We appreciate you for listening! Their age really changes the movie, it's crazy to think about them having to live that life at such a young age. Your'e right about the police brutality as well
Good show! 🎉
Good day! Thanks~ how best trip!;))
Thanks again for having me!!! This was sooo much fun!!!
Enjoyed this episode!
Thank you Samantha! We appreciate you for listening!
I enjoyed the first 20 minutes too. I love the dialogue and the real world conversation that can tie into the movie also. Very dope.
Skool, I love how you drop that information about each pick! Remember Larentz Tate on The Great Franky Lymon! Tupac had that gift too! That was a good show! 👏
I enjoyed your view on these movies and actors /actress I have seen most of these movies your excitement definitely will make me revisit them again !! ❤
Keep up the great work Skool! Very entertaining and wonderful list
Honestly this movie was soooo good back in the day. I need to watch it again.
It really is a good movie! I’m shocked I had never seen it before but we had a great conversation!
This movie was a waste of film. No pun intended. Come on vondie you're better than this. And glitter. Really cmon.
Vondie is absolutely better than this. I wonder if he's trolling lol
.@@theculturegardenpodcastn I still cant get over that name. Big meat. Haha.
that name big meat. Is ridiculous.
I love y’all so much and thanks again for having me 🥹🥹🧡
The pleasure was ours, thank you for everything!
I got to holla at yawl!! FACTS!
Dope episode! Y’all keep doing what y’all are doing!

Shawna is self centered and has main character syndrome. She low key uses everyone around her for everything and burns them when she doesn’t need them.
I don't know why it didn't hit me until this episode!
Man I almost shed a thug tear for Duke! I’m not mad at Duke at all…give your ALL to disloyal folks.
Man Mia made switched up because of her feelings with her BD. Unfortunately, he said it, but it has some truth to it…you’re acting just like your momma!
Damn you lookin just like skip!!! I love you bro!
This is Wonderful! Y'all been doing it Well!😊 Keep up the Great Work! FAMILY POWER!
It was Nick At Nite
I knew you’d know! Appreciate you!
Can't wait to hear you guy's thoughts on episode 7! It's WILD!
Episode was RAW!
We appreciate you Nate! Love!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie!!!!!!❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂
A classic! One of our favorites!
I love this show and enjoyed your commentary!! My two cents..... I knew something was off about Cash from the beginning. He's tall, dark, handsome, thoughtful, has money, an above average house, and good sex??!! Being too perfect is a huge red flag and I agree with Ray P, he's a woman beater!!!!
I think Lord AK connected with Shawna because I think he’s probably a true artist, but also identifies that he too has to play a certain characature for the industry
I loathe the Francois personally type…smoke & mirrors and clout chasing
Oh! Ya'll got real candid on this episode! So good! 🙌
Thanks again for having me Skool!!! This was so much fun lol. Hadn't seen this movie in forever! Such an easy convo!
Thank you for joining! Looking forward to more!
This Was Probably My First Introduction To Paul Walker Before Fast & Furious Franchise
