The National Ignition Facility used 300 MJ in to produce 3 MJ out. The way they achieved ignition was to ignore 298 MJ of that so that they could say that only 2 MJ was input. Your explanation only mentions the 2 MJ they reported. One current obstacle to ignition is to eliminate the dependency on that extra 298 MJ. Moreover they need to be able to repeat those 3 MJ out fifteen times a second, not their current rate of fifteen times a year. Its a good question which of those two obstacles will prove harder to overcome.
