Well explained, can be a difficult subject because of the many variants that can be used. but as always start simple, wide angle, single frames, good amount of overlap. You will get a good image.
Great video! Thank you so much!
Finally editing video!!! I was able to learn a few things that I hadn't applied to my editing before. Thank you! :). In my opinion, this is what is most lacking on TH-cam and what the most people have a problem with.
Glad I could help! I will work on some more tutorials soon
@@The_AstroNomad1 It may be a good idea to record streams from processing and put their recordings on a separate channel. Even without a voice, then no matter how long it takes, someone can find something for themselves. And it will certainly be much easier.
Can you tell, the ratio of dark images? For star trail , pano photos or stack photos Also let me know how to take dark images
I usually take 8 darks for most cases. You basically map the sensor to subtract and hot pixels (noise that doesn't change) from the light frames. To take them, you have to just put the lens cap. Basically, keep all the settings the same, and take the darks right after you finish with the lights. The reason the settings have to be the same and you have to take them right after is because those things can alter the noise in the image and you will end up subtracting different values. Also the reason we take a few of them and stack them is to make sure we average the values of each pixel to reduce the random noise (same reason we stack light frames). So basically we just remove the hot pixels and not the random noise. And this means the more darks the better, I just take 8 because it's less time consuming. Hope this helps and also thanks for the video idea!
As usual clear and to the point, thanks for sharing.
🔥🎇It's a pleasure to watch your videos! Merry Christmas, my friend!! I wish you great success in your wonderful work, the joy and grace of the born Christ! (Petros)
As always clear and to the point. any chance of seeing a prectical demo may be in your back yard during day light hour, had to ask.
Thank you! Yes, I can make a video, even indoors, to show how to move the camera, etc. I will add it to the list!
Just got a Sony A7iv. Went out tonight to compare it to my older A7Rii. Tried to induce star eater in the A7Rii by shooting for 6 seconds in e-shutter mode. Then compare it to mechanical shutter and continuous-shot mode where the star eater filter doesn't work. For whatever reason, it's no longer easy to see any difference. I believe Sony kind of fixed it with firmware version 4.01. I did notice what looked like hot pixels in the continuous mode that were not there for the plain e-shutter mode. So, noise reduction still takes place, but it's more subtle only taking out the 1 or 2 pixel bright spots. I then compared to the A7iv. It wasn't seeing the "hot" pixels the A7rii had in mechanical shutter continuous mode. So...they were hot pixels and not stars. What's still kind of an issue is the faint stars tend to be greenish. So, I think Sony is still messing with their noise reduction on the tiny stars.
And cut half of aurora/milkyway frame? Nah, I'm good.

Thanks for this. Nice trick with the gradient mask!
Happy to help!
Nice clear and concise tutorial, well done.

Nice tutorial brother
Glad you liked it!
Please cover pano in next video, or some complicated pano compositions
I haven't heard of the star glow filter! And it seems interesting, do you recommend any specific filter for 77mm?
I am using a square one that works with any lens (the Kase Dream Star). There is an adaptor to screw it on most lenses, and plus, I think they have some adaptors for lenses with built-in lens hoods like the Sony 14mm f1.8 or the Sigma 14mm. This is the only good starglow filter I found so far, so if anyone has any other good options on mind, feel free to comment them here.
For astrophotography can you recommend between alpha 7-4 or 7R4?
It really depends on what you want to do with it. The truth is I never used the a7riv, but if I had to choose one today, I would go with the a7iv for general nightscapes. It's a newer model with more features and a 33mp sensor, which is more than enough. Remember you will have to deal with huge files with the 60mp sensor. So slower transfer and post processing. The only reason to choose the R series is if you want to capture high-resolution files to print, etc, but still you can just use the a7iv and capture mosaics so you get more resolution.
@ thank you, useful!

Thank you for this great tutorial !
Would be great to have some accessories list and link in video descriptions :)
I just added the list in the description, thanks for the suggestion! I didn't include links because everyone will have access to different products, and I don't want to give the idea that people should get the exact one I'm using.
Great video !
