    Rich did such a tremendous job on my Hip Gig kick drum, and it's great to watch the process now! I replaced the old batter head with an EMAD clear head and wow, this kick not only weighs less and takes up less space, but also now kicks, well, you know what! Thank you, Rich!

    What if the pedal keeps pulling back to somewhere in the middle? I followed your advice but this didn’t fix it. I also don’t see a break pad on my drum-it’s older, probably from the 80s. Thanks for the help!

    • @BonoPercussion
      @BonoPercussion 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If there's no brake pad, the pedal is balanced solely between the tension on the head and the tension of the spring. You can try adjusting the range of the head to see if it helps but a new head might do the trick. If the current head is stretched then it will have a hard time balancing the spring. If that doesn't work, a repair tech may be able to make some other adjustments.

    Great video! My high school band has a set of Adams Gen 1 and 2 timpani. I notice a rattle coming from the gauge rod ball joint. When I press it, it doesn't rattle. Are there any fixes for this? And also, the pedal squeaks... yikess

    • @BonoPercussion
      @BonoPercussion 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! The most common rattles we see on Adams gauges are: 1) The indicator arm rubbing up against the indicator rail. You can simply loosen the arm and move it away from the indicator rail. 2) The ball joint that connects the gauge to the spider does not have enough lubrication. You can pop the ball out (remove the cotter pin if it has one) and add white lithium paste to the casing before putting the ball back in place. As for the pedal, some white lithium spray or silicone spray at the axle and any joints around the pedal should fix it. Happy drumming!

    I really appreciate the attention to detail in this video. When I last changed my tambourine head (in 2022), I had to watch 3 different videos to get all of the information I needed to do the job. I am going to change my tambourine head again on Saturday, and I will use this video as my primary reference. You even mention things I had issues with the last time that none of the other videos addressed (like using different grits of sandpaper for the sanding and starting with a chisel...because it's HARD to get that crud off...and using different sizes of painter's tape for the jingles). Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I will recommend this video to all of my students and colleagues!

      @@BonoPercussion I managed to change the head. I think I may have sanded too hard on the bearing edge in the past and caused it to become uneven, and I had trouble getting the hose clamp to sit completely evenly around the head. Nevertheless, it dried properly, and the new head has stayed on so far. I remain grateful I had this video!

    Thanks for this video! My fairly new Adams vibraphone has the same problem as you describe from second 45: the center bars are damped while the bars at the end are undamped. This occurs on both the accidental and natural bars. The dampening bar seems to be straight, so I have no idea why this happens. Do you know what could be the reason for this unequal dampening? Thanks in advance!

    • @BonoPercussion
      @BonoPercussion 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My initial thought is that the rails need to be readjusted. Before you do that, make sure the cord is sitting in the suspension posts properly and that the rails are sitting on the frame correct. I’d also check to make sure the entire frame is put together correctly and then adjust the damper bar as shown in the video.

    Thanks for a very informative video! Super helpful. One question, if it just isnt working, could it mean that the head is completely done and needs to be replaced? Ive tried it all and pedal just won't stay. Is there any way of assessing how old/used the head might be?

    • @BonoPercussion
      @BonoPercussion 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you find it helpful! What is happening with your pedal? If the head is starting to reach an octave, it's more than likely worn out and may not be balancing with the spring. If this is the case, a new head may be the fix. If it doesn't fix it then the horizontal pull rod may need adjusting. We normally recommend having a percussion repair person do this adjustment.

      Push the pedal to the toe down position and then try screwing it back in. You may have to wiggle the screw around a little to get it to line up.

      I have been playing timpani for a community band for 18 years. The drums belong to a middle school and they are very old. I suspect that the heads are not supposed to last 40 years.

      You’re welcome! I use Tonal Energy Tuner but I’ve also seen people use iStroboSoft. Just remember that the apps are not great at distinguishing the fundamental pitch from the overtones on timpani so these apps will get you close but using you ear to fine tune is always recommended.

      Any place that sells brand name tambourines should be able to order a replacement head for them. You can also check places that sell calf skin hides for drums. On this one I used a piece of calf skin from a used timpani head.
