VKB-SEM: Setting up Modes in Star Citizen using the Mode Switch
มุมมอง 4.8Kปีที่แล้ว
Hey guys, sorry for the somewhat complicated tutorial, it's a bit of a hacky solution, but it does work. I tried to repeat myself a few times so the concept comes across. It is a bit weird that mode 3 has the keybinds, but yet doesn't do anything. I hope I made it all understandable. If you have any questions leave them in the comments and have a great day! Thanks for this it's super helpful. Like you said there are a quite a few videos on this subject but a lot of them don't really explain the thought behind the settings, adjustment and decision making process, which are all quite important for someone learning to use flick stick as this is quite a departure from how we usually aim with a controller.
So I just got the SEM but after watching this I'm noticing that with Master Modes how would that work with the mode toggles?
So cool!!!
hey, what do you have for the dpad
Can you use it when aiming ?
great vid! the whole reason im interested in a thumb grip is because i want to play shooters more comfortably and good gyro support is a must for that! your video focused on my exact concerns and interests
His proposed solution is to cut some tapes and put them *under* the thumb grips. If you want thumb grips that just work this video is not helpful.
an issue i have is how to hold the controler for a better natural experience. I sit in the couch with my hands laid down on the lap
i dont think id do this
Also I don't know if you mentioned it, what game is that?
Halo Infinite 😊
The best as of today is the skull & Co 6 pack for steam deck on Amazon
With a steam deck the aiming is kinda scuffed because you move the entire screen while aiming via gyro. Also whats going on with your camera? Did you forget it in a microwave? Cool so I tried some risk of rain 2 with dualshock 4's idk why I didn't just play it on deck lol. But the biggest issue as usual with controller gaming is jumping while aiming, its alleviated with gyro quite nicely but anytime you try to circle an enemy its very hard to do properly, i guess take it with a grain of salt with me having a whopping 30 minutes of gyro experience lmao. But i wish I had some additional buttons like on the deck to keep jumping while shooting and aiming properly. Also aiming up and down is a bit of a struggle, and then I recenter the camera by pulling it up past the point where i can look up and then bring it down lol im too lazy to set up the recenter properly as it fails half the time for me just putting the camera into the dirt. (now i remembered because ror2 isnt a very button heavy game I could have used the right top bumber to jump and switched X to equipment use to have the jump key easily accessible, though i would have probably swapped left top and right top bumpers to be able to shoot easier while jumping because I'm a bozo and dont use my middle finger with the index finger to have all 4 back buttons easy to press at any time. I mean you don't either but a lot more understandable on a deck because its pretty hefty and those backbuttons are a better way to spend the middle fingers anyways. Also a good way to calibrate gyro for yourself is to lay the controller on a flat surface and if the game spins around like 3 times or something on 1 spin it should be a pretty solid sensitivity to start fiddling off of.
А главное где???
Как скачал???
I get that it's a flick stick video - but the constant flickering of the video makes it very difficult to watch.
If anyone wondering, there's one more alternative I've found worth mentioning. The NinjiPrint3D grip rings off his Etsy store are pretty solid. I thought they'd feel sharp along the ridges, or just not really give much grip at all since they're just 3d printed plastic, but they actually do add a lot of grip. The only draw back I've found with them is that because they're not designed to, they do nothing at all to prevent experiencing that "slippery" sensation of your thumb sliding around on the capacitive surface of the stock thumbsticks. It doesn't actually affect your grip as far as I can tell, especially after you adjust to them, but it's a little distracting and it really makes it hard to be confident in your precision. Unfortunately, that's really enough to have convinced me that I may try the JSAUX grips like Froggerdog suggests in the video. They're arriving tomorrow, and I'll try to edit in confirmation if I have the same experience with them or not.
Great video. I played Titanfall 2 single player for the first time on the Deck using flick stick, and I was surprised how quickly I got used to it (and how good I was). I don't think I'll ever be as good as I am with a mouse (20+ years of experience with kb+m will do that), but it's miles better than using standard controller joysticks layout.
How you playing this on steam deck when I try downloading it something about anti cheat
You install it on windows os, it read linux as something cheating stuff or sum like that
This is being streamed, sorry I thought that was clear by the title
So what thumbs grip works perfectly with Gyro?
jsaux do at least, they seem like the best ones. I skipped the grips that aren't available on Amazon UK. Avoid the skull & co ones, they are not capacitive.
I wish Star Citizen and VKB would partner more closely to provide pre-configured profiles for both the joysticks and the game. The profiles included in the game are a joke. The customization for these sticks is amazing, but I am willing to bet that most people aren't using any of this advanced functionality!
Is there are a way to add it to classic doom? I wanna add to Sonic robo blast 2 to see if it makes easier turn in game.
Hi I got steam deck oled can you please tell me how can I play call of duty in there . ?
great idea! worked for me!
You specifically mentioned SoT and I was curious if you ever tried flick stick in it. I'm trying to configure flick stick in SoT and it seems inconsistent. I slowed down the flick speed and noticed that the game kind of auto snaps prior (sometimes after) to the 90 degree snap. I'm losing my mind trying to figure this out and was hoping you might be able to help.
Couldnt you just use all the numerical modes and then assign another toggle to switch between the more specific modes within each?
These do not fit in the steam deck OLED
Great video, I'm trying to play Deathloop on PS5 with Gyro and flick stick. Although settings are very different for this game, your video helped me understand the basics of playing this way. Thank you !
This was very helpful, Thanks.
What aiming settings are you running on deck?
Does each different mode change the configuration of the other buttons? What I mean is: C1 in mode 1 does "x" but C1 in mode 2 does "y"?
In most modes you can have the same button do something different and have them mode dependent. Not every function is "slaved" to a mode, but the ones that are work like you want them to. If you're still having trouble, try to reach out and I'll try to help you (I don't have any VKB peripherals yet, but have set up my VPC joysticks and I know a bit about Star Citizen)
@@PvtDamion thanks, I got the SEM and played around with the controls. I got it set up the way I wanted. The software is very robust
24:00 I think there's a better way to do that. It's to map a button to get the crosshair automatically reset to the horizontal position. On /r/SteamDeck look for the post "Quick guide on recenter button for a flick stick" this is a guide on how to setup this. Basically you need to find the vertical value to look down completely if you are aiming all the way up, map this value to the frist command for that button, then this value/2 50ms later for the second command. You can have a recentrer button in every games that way. It's much quicker that doing the gyro OFF, repositioning, gyro ON. You just need to tilt the deck the way you want and click one button 👍
There's now a simplification of this: bind a button to "Camera->Reset Camera" and as long as the Dots per 360 value is calibrated correctly, you're good to go.
Its just so dumb to me that people use capacitative pad from joystick to enable gyro when you can justmap that to left trigger
You're not considering hip firing or just getting into position from the hip and then ADS. Lots of reasons I want gyro outside of ADS
thanks! found it! still up to date info
Just got a steam deck and almost bought the dbrand ones before i watched this review. Now I'm looking at the JSAUX grips because gyro is an important feature to me.
I have the steam deck skull and co and gyro works well with it
Can you voice chat with players?
Let me start by saying this is a great tutorial for those who do not know anything about flick stick or gyro yet. Great explanation. But I think you switch what yaw and roll are on the deck. What you mentioned as yaw is actually roll and vice versa. Roll is a steering wheel. I get that on a controller you hold it flat, and then tilting the controller left or right is roll and moving left and right while keeping the controller flat is yaw. But you dont hold the deck flat. the sreen is more yowards you r fae and you are looking ahead at it, not from above.
Awesome video man, I’ve got an SEM in the mail and am looking forward to setting this up
nothing like the Legion running at 100+ fps
It's almost like the legion is using newer hardware that weren't available in 2021. Crazy ain't it.
Do you get Steam interface? The only reason he can do flick stick and Gyro is because of Steams Controller Configuration toolset
onexfly or ?
how many fps ?
90
@@Elbimmerclub More than on asus ally? 😄
@@fifagi Before on the steam deck it was 60, now on the oled it is 90. Ahahaha
@@Elbimmerclub 😂 😂 😂
It looks pretty smooth, how do you like it so far?
Arent there mouse sensitivity charts for windows and game settings? Would be cool if steam had some statistics like that taking one game as the example for how to set the other games in comparison to have the exact same settings...
Can you still have right stick click binded to an action when using flick stick?
Yes :)
Very helpful video. Thank you!
You convinced me to buy the JSAUX one. Been really looking for thumb grips for my Steam Deck. I was gonna wait for the Satisfye one, but I think they're selling them at a bundle with their Slyth grip.
i can't even find the jsaux ones at all anymore.
You trying this on Halo Infinite is perfect case study for me. It's the only game I struggle to play on Steam Deck, and I play it by far the most on PC.
Hey, loved your video. Great approach. The hardest part of customizing controls for me is finding a starting point, so starting with 90 degree turns and then fine tuning from there made it feel doable.
FOR ANYONE THAT STRUGGLES WITH GYRO ACTIVATION WITH THE GRIPS You can fix the finger recognition on the stick by grabbing a wooden pencil and coating the inside of the grip with the pencil's lead. I tried it with the Dbrand grips, coating the rings that make contact with the sensor with the pencil lead and now the gyro activates no problem. Not sure how it would work with other grips and I don't want to guarantee it but it worked pretty well for me with the dbrand ones
That's super cool, thanks for the tip!
hello i have this same setup and was wondering if you still use it. if so have you came up with a better alternative configuration?
Hey, have you tried out to use the right trackpad as a mouse for more rough aiming and gyro for the precise aiming?
Yes but I hate the location of the right track pad for extended use. Same as Nintendo switch or any other handheld with the stick in that location. Steam deck rocks for it's thumbstick locations
@@mrexpendable1232 okay thank you for your answer :)
