Shirley Walker was a very talented composer who deserved more recognition and a better career (the music used in this Sizzle Reel is just great). Instead she had to dedicate a good deal of her time to "elevate" composers such as Hans Zimmer because they didn't have the knowledge and the skills to arrange and orchestrate their own music.
Great info!
As someone who just arrived in LA as a composer and eventually is seeking representation, THIS has been such an informative and valuable panel and video! Thanks a LOT for this!!! 🙏🏻

I, too, was born in a DP camp months after WW2 ended and I connected with Ms. Ritmanis' emotions. My father's two older brothers (then in their late teens) went off to fight in Latvia's War of Independence. My father was in his early teens and stayed on the farm in Vidzeme. The film and the haunting music brought the back memories of his oral history. It is difficult to for some Americans to connect with the close-to-the-vest emotions of Latvians and the subtleties of the language which English subtitles (or dubbing) cannot capture--for example at the end of the film "Birthplace" being translated as "Fatherland," what with all the connotations of that, yet the music transcends spoken language and carries the day--that and the starkness of war. The music was moving and bridges a great deal--a universal language. Bravo Ms. Ritmanis!

Great video! very useful. I have one Quick question: on 2:39, what's the thing on spot mode that you fix when exporting the Audio Files? Thanks!
this is so helpful thank you!
Interesting!
The nice thing about music is that is universal and you really need to show that you know cause even people who have no music knowledge (the audience) can tell better music/production/orchestration writing. I'd say there needs to be institutions that hired based on talent and not on networking/assistant on an already centralized business. Cause you know it doesn't really matter who you know, your music skills ain't care about that. Also a person who lives in Germany shouldn't have to move to LA in order to achieve success, specially with technology. What I notice about the current approach is that there is a grown of composers who are writing a lot of generic music (what works) and not composers who have their own unique signature sound. Everyone praises John Williams but everyone "sounds" like Hans Zimmers.
