I'm using Handshake for a career fair tomorrow. It will be 10 minute sessions with each employer. When both parties join for a 1:1, should I speak first and introduce myself first or wait until the employer speaks? Let me know if you have any tips! :)
Apologies on the delay! Hopefully the career fair went well and you were able to prepare with a career coach at UMKC! For anyone wondering the same - This will be a fairly natural conversation between you and the recruiter. You really just have to feel it out! Of course coming in with excitement, saying hi and introducing yourself in regard to your name and maybe saying thank you for the opportunity to sit down with them would be ideal. After they introduce themselves, you'll usually get prompted with a question along the lines of "So, tell me about yourself..." and this will then allow you to dig into your career fair/elevator pitch! After that, its just a conversation where they will ask questions about you and you will ask them questions about the organization and opportunities. Feel free to reach out to careerservices@umkc.edu for any help moving forward!
@@UMKCCareerChannel Thank you! It went well and the 1:1 was very similar to what you explained. I have another coming up this Fall so this should help!
I am a UMKC alumni and this conversation is extremely helpful and relevant! I really liked how you all talk about how to negotiate, the importance of being honest when leveraging offers. I also find it super cool that the career center has stats on local position salaries! Thanks for this resource!
Thank you so much for you feedback and support! We truly appreciate it and so happy we able to help you in some way. That's really what it's all about! If you have any other topics you'd like to hear about, please let us know! We are always open to ideas from our students and alumni. Additionally, please, feel free to reach out to the UMKC Career Services office (careerservices@umkc.edu) if you'd like to information on salaries or if you need assistance with anything career-related. All of our services are open to alumni.
Could you post the LinkedIn site to find the alumni please?
Absolutely! www.linkedin.com/school/umkc/people/
