If computers were an advantage, we'd all have them.. 2024 - We all have them. everywhere.
absolutely brilliant ... a missing gem of a documentary ..
Top man RIP 🙏
What a lovely man. I came here after i heard of his passing, my condolences with his family
RIP Barry
RIP BAZZA thanks for the entertainment
Watched this a few years ago and thought it was class, though not a follower of the horses at all. This just popped up on my recommendations again, so decided to give it another watch, and after sliding through the comments I'm saddened to hear of Barry's recent passing. RIP.
Who was the bookmaker barry was talking to at 29 minutes, would love to know if his stalls sold at auction and for how much.
That was Bobby Jinkle and they sold for £100,000
That Santrop/skiing70's montage spoke a million words. Must have been amazing.
R.i.p baz
Rip barry.

Saddened to hear of Barry's death at 83 he will be greatly missed by those who value free speech and real character!

RIP Barry - what a character This is absolutely fantastic. Proper social history of pre Betfair age
Just come on here to watch this again after hearing of Barry passing away today. RIP Barry a legend in the racing and bookmaking worlds!
RIP barry, never be the likes again .
Very sad to hear that Barry is no longer with us. He was a real character. Used to see him down at Lingfield and Plumpton all the time and would have my tenner win with him. Glad to know that I helped pay his mortgage..Sleep well Mr Dennis..
RiP Barry - the game is poorer for your passing
Back in the day when you got a three year sentence your cell would have a strip of carpet in it.
What an utter gem to stumble on .. could watch things like this all day ..literally was the good old days
You are the same as me, I love watching videos of England back in the 70s and 80s, back when we had a country and a culture. Now look at it, phucking disgusting !
This is just the best. They don't make documentaries like this any more. Wonderful stuff!
'Can't beat the expenses'... If you couldn't then god knows what happens now..
Shit happens.
Barry's Bismarck channel 4 racing 🐎 what a bunch of bent Ball suckers 👍
The opening clip is I believe after Barry had just lost "£10k" on the last race of the day.
As honest and straight talking as they come not to everyone's taste...but so what Barry didn't have to prove anything to anyone he did thing's his way just as everyone else does it their way. I absolutely loved seeing this again and seeing Barry's wife and home life his good lady also spoke from the heart and it's clear the love and trust they have for each other . I really felt for him when he got hit before the off just as the last race was about to start some charmer just happened to want a 'Monkey' on @ 20's which Barry obliged. ....🫣 I know this is from many year's ago and if my memory is right didn't one of Barry's lifelong mates another rails 'layer' leave him some very lucrative pitches after he died,? I would appreciate if anyone could confirm this as obviously I don't want to get it wrong. 🐎🐎🙏❤️
You have to move with the times. Betting changed. There was a monumental change in the past 20 or so years, ever since the advent of exchanges. Though bookmakers still drive the exchanges, not vice versa. But it's corporate bookmakers, essentially number crunchers and traders, that routinely and probably automatically now with AI algorithms, ban or restrict (gub) to pennies any successful or prudent accounts. Old school on course bookies are prehistoric.
Not wrong there , if u know what you're doing it's almost impossible to get a decent bet on 💯👍
Barry is correct about Royal Ascot its a total waste of time.
I remember betting on most of those horse's of the day, except they lost when I was on them.
45:08: Bet £500 at 20/1 =£10,000 - £500 = £9,500 profit the equivalent of £17,647.60 in today's money.
Amazed it wasn't layed off
Is there any video explaining what a Bookie does, how do they determined the odds from a horse racing and any other sport event?
Battle of wits.
He is mr tricky.
Why would you go racing and not go to the on course bookies, you might as well sit at home

Crying poverty is usually a sign of wealth. Most bookies are always crying poverty.
So by using your own deductions 'Big Bernie ' what does it tell you.
Just watched this docu now (must've missed it when shown at the time) but really enjoyed it, I agree with most of the comments here regarding the exchanges & now not having to leave the house to get bets on! It's a shame as a day at the races used to be seen as a proper day out & the whole social aspect. Not everything's positive about the computer age!
Betting is really shit now bookies just rip people off and all the id checks now it’s had it now betting is shit
All that doe and has a cracked window screen 😂 typical tight ass gambler like myself 🤦♂️
Mardy bastard
Rough as arseholes that pair at the Derby
