Acid Archives Diaries - Kenneth Higney (1976)
Great stuff. An orig UK Butterfly by The Hollies is a wonderful find in the wild, and great price for the condition. Lovely record. Not to mention Colin Blunstone's One Year. A couple big faves of mine. Thanks for the Syracuse tour - good spots to know!
Nice grabs Dom! I've always found some good stuff at the Sound Garden, but local bias aside, we can agree there is a lot more to dig at Angry Mom! Just putting it out there for those who might venture into the area ;-) Agree, Birth is phenomenal (track 2 - Mortgage on My Soul is pure octane) -- the first of an amazing run by Jarrett's so-called American quartet which I adore. That Phil Woods + European Rhythm Machine is also killer. Man this is cheap heat central! Love it.
Bunny album is a gem
Another great video. Thanks. You might enjoy Michael Garrison’s Prisms lp from 1981 on the same Windspell Records label.
Cool finds. I'll have to check out the Circus Maximus and the Hollies. You might ask John 6 inch pianist if he has that Impressions record though, like me, he might baulk at the UK shipping costs. If no one else wants that Jonathan Richman, I'd be interested, if that's not too selfish. Great video.
Love garrison..kinda of a sad story..he struggled with depression and other issues that eventually got the best of him..but was one if the few Americans who really was creative with the berlin school aesthetic..i love all his lp's except point of impact which was to synth poppy for my taste..lol..much love chris
Wonderful comments about the fires. I sincerely hope that our country is able to pull together to care for people in the long-term. Nice find on the Hollies. For whatever reason, I never see their albums in the used bins. If you want a nice copy of the Stooges, I come across that first album from time to time. Being in Detroit, I think we see them more often than other cities. I’ll let you know if I see one at a reasonable price. A nice alternative is the 1st French press. That’s what I currently have and it sounds great (and at a fraction of the cost).
I live in Buffalo, but oddly I've been the Soundgarden in Baltimore more than one in Syracuse. Both are great stores.
Styrene, I don’t believe I have any records made that way. Interesting way to buy. I am amazed you have all the knowledge stuffed in yiour brain to know what the values are. I have never had that talent Did you use discogs a lot when shopping or just knew a lot about it. Pretty sure I would not have been fighting you for any of these Dom. Enjoyable to hear the thought process and what you bought
Dom, I'm with Dave on the Bunny Wailer, ''Blackheart Man'' album, I love it, it was the first reggae cd I ever bought! I enjoyed the Robert Aiki Lowe music, he appears on the John Fahey tribute album, ''The Great Koonaklaster Speaks''from 2007 on the Table of the Elements imprint.I discovered Styrene plastic when I was a kid, the buildings on my HO scale model railroad layout were made from that stuff. The Styrenes were a cool band from Ohio, they were formed by members of The Electric Eels and The Mirrors, circa 1975. Aldous Huxley wrote the book, ''Eyeless in Gaza'' in 1936, I have not read it yet, but I love the title, that alone makes me want to read it. Aldous Huxley also wrote ''The Doors Of Perception'', that 's where The Doors, got their band name. I'm pretty sure Stunty told me that Conny Plank produced the first Eurythmics album.
Love Blackheart Man. First reggae LP I ever bought.
Cool to see Michael Garrison. I thrifted his "Point Of Impact" along with that Bob Larson record when I went through Wyoming. I ended up keeping it! Kind of murky minimal synth/ambient sound that I really dug. Nice to see "Butterfly" get some love. I have the 2 LP reissue with mono & stereo that I'm pretty content with. Sounds so good. Those Eastern tinged tracks are sublime. Looking for a clean copy of that first Circus Maximus myself. I forgot how 12-string/Byrds-y it gets.
Very nice to see, I love those shopping raids when you just buy a lot and don't necessarily keep everything for yourself. It's fun to go through and often you discover something you like. I like the psych pop Hollies LPs, very good to get the UK for $15, that's a bargain. Colin Bluntstone is one I'm looking for, love his voice. Cheers!
I do the same thing, I will dig around my area for “common records” for cheap, clean them and flip them and reinvest in stuff for my personal collection, back in November someone had posted a box of records they put out on the curb for free in my neighborhood, I saw thee post 5 hours afterwards and the records had been out in the rain, the top 5 records were ruined but they were still sitting there, so I cleaned them up and started selling Bowie, Steely Dan, Iron Butterfly, Jim Croce, Stevie Wonder and the rarest was Lee Aaron the Cdn metal queen got $35 for that one 🎊
Cool finds Dom. I have Point of Impact from Michael Garrison, cool electronic synth stuff, I think they all came out on his own Windspell label. Great price on that Meters record! Hope you're doing well.
I’ll take the Emitt Rhodes and Country Funk LP’s
Hey there. Someone emailed me about the Emmit Rhodes but I can sell the Country Funk to you if you want? get in touch via instagram or seekingathread at gmail.
Almost every store I walk into these days has a discounted RSD section too, which can’t be good for business.
I didn't know there was a different method for cleaning styrene. Oops.
nice finds.. if you don't want to keep your new Colin Bluntstone... my wife's favorite zombies member :) with the fires, we were worried for two nights.. that first night we put together our GO bag cause our phones were telling us to get out. My wife got pissed when she found me putting together records that I'm taking with me. I'll put together a video of what was in my bag. Still a bit to soon.. lots of people I know are homeless now :(
Off Center, in Utica? Edit: there's a half-decent shop in New Hartford too.
I know you're reluctant to buy reissues but just in case, my friend at Replica Records reissued the Speed Limit lp 4 years ago. My friend Julien behind the remastering and cleaning process is a little genius. I used his service for my own and i can tell it sounds better than the OG. Real talk. Anyway, i keep my eyes peel for all your big french wants.
Hello! Yes, I can believe that. I see there's an $18 copy of the reissue in the US so perhaps I should take that for now. Can't hurt too bad. Thanks for the info!
Great news Dom. You and I will not be fighting over albums this year. I try to stay away from any album I can’t pronounce. Last year I spent some energy on trying to keep you on track. That was a worthless effort lol.
Haha, well maybe try harder this year Steve. If left to my own devices I will lead myself down some sketchy roads lol. As you can obviously see here...
Hello. Moondog played "The creation" in Historical Museum Stockholm 1986, the whole set have never been released, thats rare.
Dom, I'm thinking about Sherv, Alex and James in regards to the horrific wildfires. Hope everyone is okay! My fave Lou Harrison piece is ''Double Concerto For Violin And Cello With Javanese Gamelan'' it's a perfect mix of ''female and ''male'' energies entwined together. My copy is on the TR Records label from 1983. William Winant plays on the '' Stampede'' section, he's one of premier percussionists of his generation. He's on the Sonic Youth release, ''Goodbye 20th Century'', a nice compilation of versions of works by important avant-garde composers from the 20th century. Good luck on your ''vision'' quest!
Many thanks Michael. Right about Winant, I remember that from when I was heavily listening to those SY SYR releases. Was cool that they did those, some are better than others but all interesting. Indeed about the fires. Sad to see how much people lost so quickly. And made me think about what I'd do if my house was about to burn down. Those guys are ok though.
Are you looking for any other Byard Lancaster?
Well if money were no option, yeah! All of the Palm titles would be amazing to have. But that's mainly it from all his band led session lps. There's a few things that he features or has a credit on as well.
@ I have It’s Not Up to Us. Amazing. But you’re right it’s not cheap
@@rhcoyle Oh yeah, love that lp. so good. that one is here in my clutches.
Will let you know if I run across any of these.
Dave, I sent Sherv a message about the wildfires. He has not responded yet. Do you have any info about Sherv, Alex and Jim and any other pals from California?
Hey Michael. I can tell you that Sherv and Alex, and I believe Jim as well, are all in good shape and unaffected by the fires.
Always enjoy seeing your beginning & end of year videos to see what you’re digging for/have found! Most of these I’ve never heard of but will be checking out a few! I do have 2 of them, the Byard Lancaster and the Charles Tyler! Both great records! I hope you have great success this year!
Same to you Joe, whatever you are after. You've landed some heavy ones so I'm sure there's more to come.
Moondog!
Good luck, Dom! I have a handful of these on my want list as well, notably the Euro jazz (Roques, Solal etc) with a significant advantage right now ;-) MPS is definitely on the radar. I found the Noon in Tunisia not too long ago for a good price. I'll let you know (or will just grab it) if another one turns up. One of the shops here has most of those Jazz meets World Series. Euro-jazz and krautrock is what I'm primarily after while on this side of the pond... with some success so far but limited by what I can haul back to Ithaca and the wallet in general...
Oh damn Cedric. I bet that box going back to Ithaca will be mighty hefty. Has to be tons of that euro jazz there though I'm sure still pricey. Was cool to see you got all those Popol Vuhs by the way. Doesn't help that so much of what I want is by default living in europe right now. Buying a plane ticket for every record I want to bring home lol
@@seekingathread yes I am stoked I was able to snag those Popol Vuh OGs for a more than decent price. Even here they're not too common and OMG do I love this band's music. But yes I worry about the suitcase. A LOT. 😅
Very cool focus list, some great stuff and a lot of stuff I haven't heard of. I have the The Stones, Goblin Mix and Träd Gräs Stenar. Ora is nice, it has a great song, Seashore, with a Pentange vibe but more psych, love that! I've never gotten a copy, even though I'm a big British folk-psych fan. I'll have to check out some of the others. Thanks for sharing, good luck!
Nice, makes sense you would know the Ora. It also has a nice private press feel to it with a homespun vibe. I will have a lot of work to do to get these. Very few are easily attainable but it appears I already have leads on like 3 titles, as you may know.
@@seekingathread Nice! I guess that's a good thing with doing these want list videos. A guy in Germany who watch my vids gave me a tip of a Flying Nun LP in his local record shop that I ended up buying. So it's good to have more people helping you out. :)
Man need to listen to that Harrison again, great stuff!
Hey Dom nice list. That Satwa is a tough pull and pricey. I actually have an og record with fake cover. I have been looking for a beat up record with og sleeve for a couple years. I bought a few dead stock copies of Paraibo a few years ago in the low hundred range. I thought I had an extra copy but seemed to misplaced or maybe I sold/traded and forgot. If I come across it I will let you know. Will also keep an eye out for it on my Brazil trip. Cheers!
always like these and any talk about collecting and spending because ppl deep in this hobby have to navigate similar waters. 2025 is going to be less records for me, has to be lol.
I always like sharing this list. Even if it means I'm generating competitors for the same record. I always like seeing what people are going after and how it differs from my own approach.
Thanks for sharing, Dom. Good luck! -- Mike
Sorry if mentioned, but did not get it : what's playing in the background?
That was Lou Harrison Three Pieces For Gamelan With Soloists
thank you!
Nice list, not familiar with most. Will fight you on that Lancaster though, been after that for over 2 years now.
throwing my hat in the byard ring as well ; )
@ 🤺
oh boy, plenty of suitors. Maybe there's a few more now too
Stunty is going to scold you for revealing your wantlist. 😂
haha, already has! But of course there is plenty I am not revealing plus all the titles I had reissues of that I am replacing too.
Good luck!
Was just playing the Martial Solal. Lucky fleamarket pull but wouldn't make a real effort to find one tbh. Between is well worth it though.
Bobb Trimble harvest of dreams and stone harbour emerges are my main focus and needs. I will keep my eye open for your list.
Those are some tough ones. Love them though, sold my reissues with the bleak hope of finding original pressings
It's cool to see some records from the Brazilian "udigrudi" movement. Do you know "caruá" by Zé da flauta and Paulo Rafael? An incredible fusion record ( Lula Côrtes is in it). Thanks for the content.
Just barely, but yeah would love to find that record. Don't know if I've ever seen it. thanks for checking in!
Diggin' the Duster t-shirt , they didn't have much merch when i saw them last yr with Codeine :(
You are dedicated!
If not perhaps foolish too.
Congrats and happy new year. Jazz flute funk say that 10 times fast. I definitely need to check that out I am also a fan of flute. A lot of others to research here as well. I hope 2025 treats you well. Cheers!
Whats up Jason! Great to hear from you. That reminds me I have to finish your latest update. Always a must watch for me. Hope the new year is starting nicely.
I have the 2nd and 3rd Look Blue Go Purple EP's. I told that to a buyer at Amoeba in Hollywood and he said he had been a buyer for years and had never seen one. I guess not a lot of Americans have those.
Great 2024 new artist list, will have some overlap with mine for sure. That Cuni record came out in 2023 I believe, but yes, fantastic. There was a time I would never not listen to a new Godspeed, but somehow this one I missed completely, need to check out.
Hey my friend. As I said, Godspeed is really hitting a stride for me like they never had. I did see that about the Cuni coming out in 2023 but it made it to these shores in the earlier part of the year. As always though, there's always plenty I just don't get to hear that I'm sure I would've loved. Potentially even more than anything on my list. Always something I aim to do more of: get more immersed in the newest music.
saw this one last week in the wild in Stockholm!
Endlessness an excellent choice for 2024 favorite. I need to check some of these out. Didn’t give the Seefeel release a full listen. The Godspeed is really good, but yeah, the last one is better. I prefer the Skinner studio recording of those songs over the live version. The ETA IVtet is getting better with every listen. Been streaming it a bunch at work lately. I missed out on the Songs: Ohia release. Wasn’t sure if I needed it, but now regretting it since it made the cut for this video. It was a great year for new music. There’s a lot out there to be excited about imo. Cheers, Dom!
Wow what a great update, looking forward to your 2025 list, always fun to follow and get turned on by stuff that wasn't on my radar.
Congrats Dom, serious heat! ♨ I mostly envy your jazz grabs (cause don't know the rest) especially Thollot, Brother Ahh, Juju, the JC Vannier -- cult! Also I really like how that Vesa Matti Loiri sounds (will explore) and the Bach on marimba in the background sounds lovely too. Best wishes for 2025!
Same to your sir. I guess we'll see you back here this year as well?
