    Its music just make your own sound. if you play a lot of notes in your own music loads of big dark cymbals are just going to become a wall of noise. If I come back to hit a cymbal and it still ringing hard from the hit before its too big.

    😂😂😂 more ture than people will be willing to accept. 😂 As a former jazz musician (meaning, I don't perform or compete anymore. I just play for fun), I learned: literally everything *_can_* be counted in 4/4 time. ....sure, it might take 26 bars to get back to your beat 1 being on the music's beat 1, but it's still counted in 4/4, if you want to count it like that. Might sound like I'm just playing or something....I'm being serious. Sometimes, pieces seem to be composed for the sole purpose of making the composer's ego feel more secure. "I can write music is odd time signatures...so, I'm not just good, I'm awesome!1!" ..... ....but, when you are playing the music, "it don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing" isn't just advice. it's a fundamental part of getting the groove correct. so: I'd the time signature is not standard and it's hard for you to count in (like 13/8).... then count it in 4/4. in this case, how? ...break each bar up into two sections...one with 6 beats, one with 7. Since you're in 13/8, every eighth note gets a beat, so make each 13/8 bar into two: one that has six eighth notes & one that has seven eight notes. Then, instead of counting: 🎵🎵🎵🎵 🎵 🎶 '1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13' break it up into to two parts, then count a bar of 3/4 then 4/4. Its basically all 4/4, just missing 1 beat. much easier than 13 beats per bar. 👍 count: 1-& 2-& 3-& 4-& 🎵🎵🎵🎵 1-& 2-& 3-& 🎵 🎶 .....then repeat. That's 13/8 in 3/4 & 4/4 counting. 👍 you can always mix it up and still keep it simple. for example, throw some triplets in for a beat to break it up some. Schizm, by Tool, for example, uses 13/8 at one point. The run it like this: the first part if the bar is made up of 3 eighth notes, 1 quarter note, 1 triplet (which is one beat) ... that's 6 beats so far....the end of the bar is 4 eighth notes, 1 quarter note and 1 triplet...which makes 7 beats. That's 13 beats per bar. it can still be counted as 3/4 then 4/4 instead of 13/8.

    Hi it’s interesting because the bigger you go the shittier the sound is. In a small place they all sound good then when you get big like in an arena they all sound the same very bad. The bigger you get the shittier they sound you’ll find out.

    yes, i agree-bigger cymbals are where it's at. never mess with any crash smaller than a 18inch-avoid big thick loud projection crashes,unless you got the touch and work them,great video and love your approach.

    Great video! However, that virgin kick has a subtly different resonance. It might just be that they’re two different drums, but it does sound better. There’s more fundamental tone and fullness to my ear. YMMV, and yes, it is probably subtle enough that most people will never tell the difference. And your points about setup are well stated. Thanks for the effort!

      It needs to be in the context of how many notes you play. If your cymbals are big and washy and you hit them often, they will become a wall of noise. We need to be careful that the sound we like with also work with how we play.

      Thank you so much! There are so many choices these days for 8x14 snare drums. It's hard to recommend to someone which snare to buy without knowing what it is you're looking for in sound and what style of music but I will say stick with the price range of $150-$350.

Since I use a Mapex Venus I thought th3 Mapex MPX would be a good one to go to . But I'm open to suggestions. After all its all about the tone , the sound etc

    I bought Resotone 2 for batter heads on my 6 ply maple Ludwig kit a couple years ago. They definitely have a lot of sustain, too much really … they ring forever. That's a pretty easy fix with bit of muffling, however they also produce a very scooped mid-range effect on my drums … the midrange body is really quite lifeless compared to other thick heads like a Remo C. Emperor, which I went back to after several hours w/ the ResoTone 2. The Resotone sound is very bright and slappy with a lot of low end - very modern. Just not my cup of tea.
