Going for my last year tomorrow. I’m going in expecting to cry my eyes out on the last day. I’m so exited but so sad at the same time
I really want to go to this Camp Glisson!
This brings back bad memories
SPARROW WHAT!!!
Gary Wright?
It was so fun when I went, can you post a soundtrack of all the songs you use so I can listen to them at home
Gary Wright
I’m the dude in archery
first heard this song at camp soaring hawn in the mid 80s. excellent song. great lyrics.
the person that disliked this accidentally clicked the wrong button, obviously
Almost 42 years old and this still brings tears to my eyes. My best childhood memories were at Glisson.
This night was so special. Thanks Scott for this addition. It will forever be a favorite.
This song was written by my friend, Mike Underwood, sometime in the early 70s. He taught it to me in the Summer of '73. Mike was a student at Baylor University, and was doing a stint in Baptist Summer Missions at Carolina Beach, NC at the Agape Inn Resort Ministry. He was living in Baltimore the last I heard of him, and finding this here makes me think I should track him down. His version (and mine, consequently) is slower, but I like this one. I actually helped Mike do a "poor man's copyright", where you mail yourself a copy of the lyrics, along with a lead line, which is then sealed and postmarked- this would've been about 1977 or 78. It's a powerful song, and that is attested by the fact that it's been passed around ORALLY these many years. Mike called it Peter, Peter, but I sometimes call it "Such a Fool". I haven't sung it in years, but I'm singing it in church tomorrow. Very good job on the vocal by this singer! Kudos : )
My dad (who passed away in 2001) used to sing "the Peter song" back in the 70's and wasn't sure exactly who had written it (learned from a friend who learned it from a friend kind of thing). The version that he sang/played was a little different: V1: Peter, Peter on the water, you're a funny sight. Peter, don't you realize that you could drown tonight? (Chorus 1:) Just think about how things might have been, if you'd remained at sea, you'd still be a fisherman and have security, but now you're treading water with your toes, and to everyone you know, you look like a fool. V2: Peter, Peter see the cripple holding out his cup. Peter don't you be so foolish as to say stand up. (Chorus 2:) Just think about how things might have been, if you'd remained at sea, you'd still be a fisherman and have security, but now you're acting like a miracle man, fitting in to a joker's master plan, Peter you're a fool. (V3:) Peter, Peter what are you doing, you're hanging upside down. Is it true that you're giving your life for someone else's crown? (Chorus 3:) Just think about how things might have been, if you'd remained at sea, you'd still be a fisherman and have security, but now you've nothing left at all to show, and the world's just gonna let you go, Peter, what a fool.... O to be such a fool...
@@matthewbyrd9864 I learned that version also, decades ago. Such a beautiful song, and such powerful words! Thank you for sharing.
I grew up with mike in San Antonio We used to sing this all the time in Youth Group. I sure could use the music to it.
I heard Mike and Von Rogers sing this song at a camp in Georgia in the mid 80's. It has stayed with me and I've sung it a few times. VERY powerful. I, too, long to be "such a fool."
I really miss camp 😔😭 but we are in this together we can get threw the COVID19 virus.I love this camp🙏❤️🥰😍😘😙

i just got home from my senior year at camp. i wish i held onto the time a little bit more
Great video
I love this song and everything about it is great
I was there as this was recorded, but I remember it to be the summer of 1995 or 1996. Scott was an amazing vocalist, but it was actually another counselor who played the song for this recording. The guitar player also recorded an original song during this session that was amazing! Scott is a mutual friend to my wife and I, and actually, he was the one to introduce the two of us the summer of 1997 in front of the Glisson Chapel. (He also sang at our wedding) My favorite part about this recording are the crickets in the background. As a camper growing up at Glisson in the 80's Andy Offut Erwin would sing this song anytime he came to visit. For the longest time I though he wrote it, but I don't think he did. If I close my eyes and get lost in it, I still feel the hard bench of the chapel behind me, the cold floor of the tile and grout beneath me, and a warmness in my heart that I know is the love of Christ flowing through me. "Oh how I long to be, such a fool"
Totally feel you. Been at Glisson for 7 years and running. Out of question, where is the audio file to this CD now? I haven't been able to find it.
Hi, I just discovered this song and I really love it and would like to play it on guitar and I was wondering if you had a chord chart for it that you wouldn’t mind sharing with me?
@@johnsapp8099 Here are chords from Andy Offutt Irwin (he writes, "I recorded this for the first time in 1989 and I still don’t know who wrote it. I learned it from Rob Lanford at Camp Glisson in Dahlonega, GA. My chords are easier than his. He’s a much better musician."): C (walk down) am --F Peter, Peter, what are you doing G C Follow-ing that man? C (walk down) am --F You gave up your life of fishing G C Will it really last? @@TheChivalricAge Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!
Jason! Yes it was 1995. I feel the same way. The crickets and the chapel. ❤️Some amazing memories.
yeah. I love this song. We used to sing it at youth group bible studies when I was a teenager. Does anyone know who may have written the song? Thanks for posting.
I'm four years late, but I answered your question : ) See above.
This was so much fun! I was at Outpost Frontier Horseback. I can't wait for Village this year!
Taylor, your dad Tommy was an awesome man! I met him in the 80s, as a kid at Jones Memorial where he went. He had a killer smile and a way to make everyone feel special. This song even holds memories for some who didn't attend Camp Glisson, as we (the Jones Memorial youth) used to sing it to the cafeteria staff at the of our retreats at Awanita Valley. Great memories!!
I'm so going to do that
it sounds like the Chapel
you broke the number one rule you said the water is cold
Great Video! Camp Glisson is truly a special place. We are so proud to be a part of the new dining hall and cabins.
Looks like fun! Can't wait to go for my fourth year! Week five:)

It is a great song, and this is great singing!!
You can not say the water is cold a t camp
Wow, I'm 32 years old and went to Glisson since the 3 day mini camp. I went until I was about 15. It's awesome how these traditions are still being kept. I remember this song in the closing celebrations every year. Such an amazing time in my life that I'll cherish forever. God Bless Glisson!!!! CHO BOI!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm in here!...somewhere...ahaha
Well, that means I am in the crowd!
When was this taken?
Glisson is the best place ever! Was this filmed on week 9 of summer 2012?
That's awesome :D
