You should have more subs, every one of your videos make me laugh James, good to know some TH-camrs here like yourself have substance to their personality. It sounds like you had a streak of bad listening averages based on the scores for some of those albums mentioned. Voivod are oddballs alright… it takes time to really click and actually understand their strangeness and it changes album to album. Give Immolation another chance… I'd start with Here in After, my favorite album of theirs. Hammerfall are fun, but they've been a hit or miss band for me, still need to listen to the new one. Amorphis is another one I need to check out the new one, but the band itself has been around a long time and they've developed a very mature sound. Good luck on your new job!

I saw the Party Cannon in the title and I thought I was clicking on the wrong channel, haha… it's good for what it is, but I'm with you, if slam is not already your thing this won't make you cross the fence either. I have an album recommendation for you, I'd be curious what you think: Dark Quarterer's album "Pompeii" … yeah it's a concept album.

Wow, talk about change of scenery… 90s goth often is the very answer for when the mood strikes. Crisis, has been less than consistent with releases album to album, doesn't help with the changing lineups but when I picked up that first album back in 1996, I always thought it had more of a hardcore vibe than death metal, they were quite odd, but a welcome change from the other typical stuff coming out at the time.

James, I applaud your bravery… you know showing a Baby Metal CD, LOL…… all kidding aside, I used to be into Beseech waaaay back in the day and completely forgot about them… dammit, I'll have to scour discogs now for some of those old gems…… knowing my luck the only sellers will from Germany, HAHA!

Good to see you back! Okay first thing in order… perhaps I feel differently about that early Theatre of Tragedy stuff because I got into them from the early days when there wasn't a big point of reference for what was considered "good" for that genre, I can see how that can be biased. But yeah in hindsight listening back it is rather dated and basic but that's part of the charm. I did not realize all that stuff went down with Delain lately, boy am I behind the metal eight ball, haha. Draconian are a great band but true, those tracks do get rather drawn out longer than they need to… kinda like a new Maiden album does, haha. Speaking of American symphonic power metal bands… you familiar with Anaria out of Boston? They are quite good.

I gotta say I've never listened to Tigerlily while washing dishes, such a great album. Ray of Light was the last bearable album I think M put out, that was quite a long time ago. I agree, starting with the DCD compilation if diving into their discography is the way to go!

Great update… ohhh man, you took me back to my old art school days when I was learning Photoshop, that kind of old symphonic metal album art cheesyness was the kind of stuff I was whipping up, haha. When Tarja got the boot by the band back in the day, my immediate thought was to go with Floor as a replacement, didn't happen…… but after Olzen left, Nightwish hit me with a curveball and recruited Floor after all, was already listening to After Forever at the time early 2000a, funny enough I discovered After Forever while trying to "illegally" download a Black Sabbath song and did not realize there was a whole band with that same name, nice surprise. I dropped out of Agathodaimon after their releases, the sound changed too much for my taste, but I do have some nice gold CD versions of their early stuff. You want 90s… instead of Alanis Morissette, try Salt and Pepa's Very Necessary album… that one will transport you to the 90s hot tub time machine real fast.

I'm gonna check out Artrosis and revisit The Sins of Thy Beloved. I'm glad to see a youtuber nerding out on their own kind of thing rather than the same shit everyone else is talking about.

Some good answers there! Not familiar with Amaran, but I checked them out, she sounds just like Christina Scabbia, I had to look up if they were also an Italian band… seems they are not, go figure. Okay I thought I was the only one on the planet that listened to Anabantha, although that was like 15-20 years ago, I used to jam that song Deja Vu on my acoustic and everything. It's a shame to hear that the vocals have not been kind with time.

Do you play harp with those nails?

Vampire is sometimes my favorite release of theirs.

Nice showing there James, I love that Mandylion album, it's the doomiest one they've released with Anneke, but that's usually my taste anyway, they eventually transitioned out of that style next album, Nighttime Birds is excellent too!
