Beautiful piece, Justin! Been hearing you guys for a few years (you are my favorite band ever) and last year I bought a bass -- I've been learning some of your tunes (more specifically, "The Monad of Creation" and "A Slow March to the Burial"). What exact tuning is this?

The latest addition to my guitar-army has really inspired me to compose some Floyd influenced pieces for an instrumental guitar album. This new guitar will feature predominantly on the lighter & moodier parts throughout. All that is missing now is a Telecaster! JAH //

Now that The Monad of Creation album is completed, I will take a look into more recent material from Mournful Congregation and some of my other recordings along the way. Once again all electric guitar parts are in Ab Standard Tuning (4 Steps Down) & the acoustic is in standard tuning. Both tunings are detailed in previous videos. I hope that you are inspired by this not only as a guitarist but as a composer or song writer who wants to express something different yet striking. //JAH

Originally recorded on 21 November, 2003 & performed at almost every Mournful Congregation show since we started playing live on the 24 January, 2009! The first melodic solo still gives me goose bumps whenever I play it due to the lilting inflections and the intensity of the moment in the song. The complex bridge section has some of the most memorable melodies I have ever recorded. The clean tone allows for dynamics & feel, which is complimented by the heavy section that follows. The final section is immensely anthemic highlighting an unabashed display of harmonized guitar interplay. This song uses the standard Mournful Congregation tuning (tuning notes can be located in the "Loveless Rain" instructional) with no added effects outside of valve amp distortion, reverb & clean channel. We used a Hughes & Kettner TriAmp I on The Monad of Creation album through a Peavey quad box for our main tone. A Jackson Kelly was the main guitar used to record also. //JAH

Originally recorded on 7 October, 2004 & finally performed again here on 11 May, 2015 - 10 years, 7 months & 4 days later! We've never really played one of our acoustic pieces live in Mournful Congregation but if there was a choice, this would be on the top of my list. I used a Maton 6-String Acoustic for my parts, which were recorded 10½ months after the original guitar session at Mixmasters Studio in Adelaide, South Australia. This song is in standard tuning for all guitar parts throughout. The lighting was a little dull in this video due to the overcast weather we've been having. A perfect reflective day for doom! //JAH

Originally recorded on 21 November, 2003 & finally performed again here on 7 May, 2015 - 11 years, 5 months & 16 days later! We've never performed Loveless Rain live, so there was no need to have it memorized. I had to re-learn it by transcribing my parts on Guitar Pro, practicing it on a 24-fret guitar in Ab & then finally I recorded the video before editing it for TH-cam. Apologies for the slight tuning problems, which was a result of restringing a floating bridge guitar moments before recording! Not to mention the complications of tuning down to Ab standard alone! //JAH
