North Horizon Downwind Foil Board Review
North Horizon Downwind Foil Board Review
The North Horizon Downwind Board marks North Sails' first venture into downwind boards, setting a new standard in the industry. This board integrates cutting-edge design and technology to deliver superior performance and stability in downwind paddling and foiling.
Key Features of the North Horizon Downwind Board:
Innovative Shape and Volume Distribution: The board features a displacement hull at the front, essential for accelerating and initiating foils on flat water, a feature previously unachievable with traditional designs. The displacement hull, known for its efficiency, traditionally comes with a trade-off in stability. North has ingeniously addressed this by incorporating a deep bevel in the tail.
Rear Volume and Bevel Design: By shifting the volume towards the back and combining it with a deep bevel, the board stabilizes when stationary, similar to a boat's keel. This unique design enhances the board's stability, making it suitable for rough waters.
Exceptional Stability and Performance: Designed for a broad range of conditions, the board is stable and user-friendly. It offers an unparalleled paddling experience in rough waters due to its 105L volume and 18-inch width, features that contribute to its excellent stability and glide.
Detailed Specifications:
Available Sizes: The board comes in various sizes including 98L, 105L, 115L, and 124L, accommodating different rider preferences and conditions.
Dimensions: The models vary in length and width, from 75 inches long by 18 inches wide to 84 inches long by 18.5 inches wide.
Advanced Construction: It features a Full Carbon Hull that ensures rapid response and supreme stiffness, coupled with a Full S-Glass Hull for a responsive, lively flex and ultimate durability.
US Track Boxes: Equipped with 2x 13” track boxes, enhancing its versatility and foil compatibility.
Deck Features: The foot pad is expertly designed for maximum grip and comfort, enhancing the overall user experience.
The North Horizon Downwind Board is a game-changer for downwind enthusiasts, offering a blend of speed, stability, and responsive handling that is sure to appeal to both competitive and recreational paddlers. Its robust construction and thoughtful design make it a top choice for anyone looking to enhance their performance on the water.

That s a hard question to answer. I would suggest you first to rent a big regular wingboard for at least 6-8 sessions and have first your basic down. If you can already wing ( basic jibe and riding upwind) this board can be a real gamechanger on light wind days !
