Had my Interceptor for 4 years now and 38000 miles and no complaints here 😊I did change the suspension exhaust and many other things including the cam and pistons too high compression ones but it's still a 650 but much angrier but the fun level has increased . I found that if I can't get a filter the Mobil one filter M1-104A fit it's just a little bit longer .
As someone looking for a first bike, this video is much appreciated. Thank you.
Great job on the paint work! Yeah, the stainless spokes and alloy rims are a plus. RE hit the sweet spot with the Interceptor
The good thing about stamped pedals is that they bend rather than snap if the bike should fall over and they can easily be pulled back into shape. 😁😁
A very pretty ride through the country. I agree that the chase for horsepower that can't be used is pointless. We have a Swansea here in Arizona it's a ghost town.
My 2022 Orange crush Interceptor has been super reliable down here in OZ , The only thing that has happened is , is that sometimes the neutral light tells fib's , its not actually in neutral a pain when it first happened but now I just check for neutral by letting the clutch out a little , like I always did on my 1952 Norton ES2 500 , and 1966 650 Triumph Saint , 1972 Commando , 1979 Bonnie etc , we are spoilt today with the tech that will let you down every time . Thanks again for a great report .
50 years on two wheels and I've been on TH-cam for 14. This is the best review of a motorcycle I have seen. Nice to hear someone who has more than dough between his ears. Well done sir.
The third gear problem is very common, search and you will find it all over the world in the 2019/2023 models, good video!! Greetings from Argentina
@@golgti1 The only 3rd gear issue that I have heard of is a batch that stripped some teeth off 3rd gear. Is this the problem you refer to?
This the first time I heard of this problem, so I reckon it’s not common in the UK?
Couple questions, how come you swapped the bars to clip ons? Did you change the reaesets to Continental rearsets as well? Or were the interceptor rearsets OK with the clip ons? I am thinking of doing this as I have chronic tailbone pain after an hour on my interceptor. I'm guessing it's because I'm sat to bolt upright.
@@AdamHoughton-f3v I always thought the GT was the prettier bike which was my primary reason for swapping. After converting, the bike was essentially a GT continental in every way with a centre stand. The only exception was that I retained the top yoke from the Interceptor. Having converted the bike, I preferred the riding position and even at my advancing age found it more comfortable.
@@AdamHoughton-f3vI didnt find the Interceptor particularly uncomfortable after I had swapped the original seat for the GT touring seat. I did find the seat even more comfortable with the GT rear sets which mean you carry more weight on your thighs less on your sit bones. Same with the GT bars. The more weight you take on your hands the less you take on your backside.
She's a pretty bike and nice job on the paintwork. I think the GT is a very pretty bike and a younger me who was not such a fat old b"stard, would definitely have gone for one of those. As it is, the 500 classic will do nicely.
the cowl is rad.
got a year left on my triumph before i bow out or give them 6 grand. not sure what i’m going to do. i LOVE the bobber. it’s perfect. but… by a year i don’t think it will even be worth 6 grand. and i could have a brand new RE 650 classic. hmm.
Really enjoyed this monolog.. ❤
Hi there! I bought the RE Super Meteor 650 last year. Apart from really needing better rear suspension, and a better back brake especially two up at 60 or 70 mph nothing bad whatsoever to report. That said I am going to replace the relays this year even though I have never had any starting or stalling issues. She runs very happy two-up at 70mph on a long run. Thanks for sharing this sir 👍 and safe riding...
@@leswatson8563 Thank you for you comments. I have a few vehicles to look after on an income below the national average. Personally I wouldn't change the relays if I was not having problems with them. People seem keen to fit Bosch relays. I have been very fortunate on my travels in terms of breakdowns but Bosch items have left me at the side of the road more than once!
7 months 2 week 3 day retirement vacation. I'm am very happy with my bike. Impressive with handle highway speeds of 75-85. All the was in 90-95. My motorcycle handles this speeds for hours on end. Never washed her from showroom. Been clean her since getting home. And cleaning up to new. Polishing aluminum is easy. If you know what to do. I am impressed. People brag to me all the time because of her look. Were is that made. Who makes it. And, is that your set. I didn't like the sock on. I made my own set pan. Custom fit. And I ride 3 or 4 hours comfortably. And people don't believe me. I Don't care my design is more Impressive than it looks. Brand new this Christmas. And turns towards 14,000 miles. Not kept in door. My one friend as 140,000 on his Norton. I won't make that at 62. Yet, I'll do my best to try. People I hear. Motorcycle can't get dirt. Can't ride in rain. I hear a lot of cants. I'm similar to you, I'm 67 , I've been riding motorcycles for about 51 years now, had all sorts of motorcycles sizes and make's, At present i own a Royal Enfield Interceptor, I bought new in 2021 Absolutely love it, It's got a DNA Air Filter, Reverse Cone Megas Silencer's, a Fuel X Lite System, and a 16 tooth cog conversion, The fuel X is really good for the engine, It's so smooth and cool running, I also own a Royal Enfield Hunter 350, Being 5'7" it's pretty good for me, Not so good for taller chaps, I've fitted a DNA Air Filter, Powerage Silencer and a 16 tooth cog conversion, and a fuel X lite system on this as well, I bought my Hunter September 2023, I do all my own servicing, These bikes are absolutely brilliant for that 👍 And you are correct in telling people that bike's like the Interceptor have to be looked after, I get sick of folks complaining about them, mostly nowadays folks are idol, and expect bike's to clean themselves or something LOL 😅 Cheers Paul 👍

Great video! I have a 2000-reg, 41,000-mile R1100S and it's one of the best bikes I've ever owned. Yes - the torque is awesome and at under £2K it's more than capable of holding its own against far newer & more powerful machines. Above all else, it has real character - far more so than inline-4 bikes in my opinion. It's comfortable enough on longer rides (and I've just sold my R1200RT twin-cam, so that's a qualified opinion) Parts are cheap, but I would still like a sports exhaust, but no-ones making those anymore Thanks for a great video - looking forward to more 👍
I am glad you are enjoying your R1100s. I cant fully agree with your opinion of it though. The torque is nice. The handling at speed is great but it has to be coaxed around low speed corners. Plenty fast enough but I dont find it that comfortable. The vibration is intrusive. I have done everything I can to reduce it including reverting to the standard exhaust which improved things. I know that it is relatively smooth compared to some other twins. I rode a 2022 Kawasaki w800 and that was reminiscent of a 60s Triumph. I have been spoiled by Royal Enfields interceptor which barely vibrates at all and Triumphs current 900 Bonneville. Character full it may be. I use it as a sports bike not a tourer. All my other bikes are more comfortable. I keep it because it is so well made and in such amazing condition and so pretty.
I struggle with the seat. I struggle on most bikes. I guess I just have a honey backside. Can't say I find it comfortable. Still have some vibration issues to cure that stump me. Thinking it could be drive shaft phasing but it involves taking the whole final drive off and strip just to check it. I want to love this bike because it's so pretty and so easy to keep clean in the winter.
Too small...No doubt they would have shown you a photo where they look much bigger.
To be fair, they showed them on a bike to give me an idea. It kind of depends what you want to carry. I have Oxford throwovers for touring. These are fine for carrying a lock and chain.
Owned my INT for 2 years now, and it still looks as good as new. Granted, I've swapped some parts out for TEC ones (rear struts, exhausts), but it hasn't missed a beat. Nice looking conversion you've done there 👍
@@thomascharnock thanks
"You wouldn't see that on a Triumph" You mean at twice the price?
Not quite twice the price but at least £3000 more. I am a huge fan of the Enfield but I feel that its worth pointing out where the finish is compromised by the price. In many ways the Enfield is a superior product to the T100 and I intend to point those areas out in a review and comparison with my current 2023 T100.
@peterclatworthy3695 I'll keep my eyes peeled for that one
Very nice. I do think I would find the continental style more comfortable also. Your bike looks very nice!
I have the same phone holder on 3 bikes, such good value.
They are. It was a present. I have some pangs of guilt because it is a plagiarized from a british design.
22,000 with velorex sidecar .No problems other than fuel contamination.
I replied here but I don't see it so I will write it again .I hope you dont get this twice :) I have a 2017 STreet Scambler with the same panier rack .Being that I only have one side I needed a larger panier so I biult a wooden box the shape of a WW2 amo box and painted it military green ..It is large enough to hold winter gear and a rain suit ..The hinged lid can open all the way leaving an open mouthed container and if the wheather is fine it can hold my 5 string banjo in a soft case :) I also added a WW2 RAF rondel on the side and an antique GB badge on the back giving the feel of a working bike from the 1940's , I also got a Pendragon for the tank being that my first A licence was earned in Pembrookshire... I think the whole thing cost less then $3.00 for the harware ....As a young potter I apprenticed in Haverfordwest .In the early 1970's there was a man who fixed up old BMWs and sold them there ..I wish I could remember his name ..The bikes where epic ..I bought a BSA250 Star Fire and later a 650 Bonnie from Bowen & Sons in Llawhaden.. I loved riding in South Wales ..I had a girl friend working at a pottery in Ewenny Near Bridgend so that was a weekly drive from Pembrookshire . All the best from New England USA
Your panniers sound very interesting. I have considered using Ammunition boxes in Steel or plastic because they are waterproof and can be pad locked. Plastic are light and indestructible. I had thought to paint my bike in military colours but never did.
Kinda nice really, but a bit too small. I can appreciate smaller bags, but this seems a bit too small.
Yeah I agree. I have ordered a larger bag and will review it when it gets here.
It doesn't look big enough for a loaf of bread! You're obviously not going to do a European tour with these, but If you get the larger panniers I'd be interested to see how they look. 😀
I use Oxford Throwovers for touring. They are not on the bike very often but do a great job and look fine. I have ordered the next size up and will do a review on that when it arrives.
They look out of proportion
@@richardlong3615 Do you mean that they look small?
@@peterclatworthy3695 Yes
My 2020 Interceptor has nearly 75,000 kilometers (46,500 miles) and has the original battery, clutch and throttle cables, all bulbs except headlight bulb has been replaced twice; other than oil changes, 2 chains, sprockets, sintered brake pads, 5 rear tires and 4 front tires it has needed nothing. Best buy-value in motorcycling 😊
I loved mine and will probably have another one day. Liking the look of the new Int Bear 650. What tyres were you running to get such good mileage. Pirellis lasted less than 4000 miles on the rear of mine!
@peterclatworthy3695 running Bridgestone "Spitfire" 110/90 on the front and getting 15,000 miles (I bought 4 of the Spitfire 11F tires when they discontinued them). On the rear I have used 5 Bridgestone Battlax BT-46 140/70 and get about 9,000 miles out of each one.
I use Shinko 705 on my Interceptor
That's good to know, don't see a lot with high (relatively) mileage 👍
That’s really good going 👍.Mine’s now 5 1/2 years old, now up to 24k miles & also still on original battery & chain & sprockets. Had a couple of Reg/Recs fail, both replaced under warranty. It’s now relocated to under the bottom yoke. Running Michelin classics, which I’m well impressed with. Had Bridgestones but felt they didn’t suit the bike, so , when worn down got the Michelins.
That was a nice perspective on things. I put down a deposit for an Interceptor today and can't wait to get it - First big boy bike at 38yo
I'm sure you will love it. I have gone to a Triumph T100 and preferred the Enfield.

@@ralfybaby many thanks. More reviews to come please subscribe if you havent already.
I've had my Continental for 4 years and it's a keeper. I'm short and light so it is plenty of power for me and as you say the rev range is 'creamy'. I've ridden a friends Bonneville 850 and although the seat height and comfort is better than the Continental, it only has 5 gears and feels too 'refined". The Continental to me has a bit of 'danger', it has loud wrapped pipes that bark and crackle and pop on decel, it feels like I'm riding an older vintage bike. I can get all my camping gear on the back with saddle bags that don't need racks. The only slight negative is the unchromed engine covers, they didn't have a blacked out version when I bought mine (I don't bother polishing the cases). I originally had my heart set on the Interceptor but the foot-peg position was the deal-breaker, too awkward for a shorty like me.
@@kebmel8668 I have replaced the Interceptor with a 2023 T100 and despite the increased performance, I found the Interceptor the sportier bike. The Interceptor is superior in many ways which I shall outline in a couple of months in a review and comparison with the T100. Please subscribe not to miss it.

@@garryphillips378 You have some interesting bikes. I would be happy to have any of those in the garage.

Wise words!
This is a extremely odd review..... it is odd because I agree with all you say. The bike is a fabulous bike just as it comes, and does not "need" modifications....... I have done all the normal weight saving things, exhaust silencers and down pipes. Also some that I have done just because I can like making tatanium axles, nuts and Spacers. I have also fitted a Stratos Performance sprocket combined savings 1ib 15oz of unsprung mass from the rear wheel. I have Nitron R1s on the rear and Nitron TVT Cartridges in the forks. A Beringer 4 pot caliper with a 16mm Brembo master cylinder to improve braking, mainly internal bite. I have recently changed the wheels to alloys, not for esthetics but to aid possible puncture repairs on the go. These are silver, Lavada Jota style? I actual prefer spokes for looks. For personal comfort i have a GT Touring seat and GT foot controls. THE IMPORTANT BIT.... None of thes modifications are necessary as the bike is a good one out of the box. They are became they make small but incremental improvements, and because I can and it amuses me to do them. Apart fro fitting a Booster Plug (2019 euro4 owned from new) air filter and snorkel i have not felt the need to touch this sublime engine. I am of a similar age and experience to you. The only thing I do differently to you Peter is that I perhaps rev it a bit more than you when pushing on. Extremely well thought through and considered review. 👏👏👏👏 👍😎
I think that a booster plug is the best improvement you can make to these bikes. I never got round to it before I sold the bike but the science is convincing me that it is much kinder to the engine whether it makes a noticeable difference or not.
@@peterclatworthy3695 It is not a performance aid, the bike goes no faster but the bike does pick up better at low revs and in the mid range.
@@2WHEELSor2WINGS I like the fact that it will run cooler. Modern engines are forced to run lean and hot to meet emissions.
I. Would argue that if it helps the bike pick up better at low revs it could be seen as a performance aid. That's not what I would have fitted one for though. Because it feels closer to the optimum 14 parts and to 1 part oxygen it will allow the bike to run cooler. The extra torque at low engine speeds is another plus😀
14:07 I`ve found that the "Mahle OC 458" oil filter is a perfect fit and reasonably priced.
@@Vinkelsag Many thanks. I wish i had known that before o sold mine.
Very true what you said 7:45-8:30...none of the external changes to the RE 650s engine make additional power. At 3 years on my 2020 650 Interceptor I went inside the engine; installed 83.5mm Weisco 11:1 pistons and an S&S camshaft. Coupled with the full stainless-steel exhaust and the reduced weight (down to 195kg/429-pounds) and the additional 95cc's the bike is quicker than either of my 2012 Triumphs (Bonneville and Thruxton). It now has "900cc throttle authority" even though it is 743cc. Anyone thinking about the "big-bore kit" should grasp the opportunity to own a 750INT. This bike turned 45,000 miles yesterday and has been the best in 55+ years of riding since 1967...
@@frederickwoods5943 I have often wondered about fitting a big bore kit. I would love to do a review of that bike.
@peterclatworthy3695 the more sedate of the two kits with Weisco pistons is the one I used. It is 743cc, the larger pistons are 863cc. I have both Triumph Bonneville and Thruxton (865cc) and the "750cc" version of the Interceptor is lighter and quicker than either one. The RE 650s are built to handle the added displacement in stride; it is a natural progression and rumor has it that RE will morph into a 750 by 2026, that will be 126 years of production for RE which began in 1901. It is time.
@@frederickwoods5943Which Bonneville do you have? I have a 2023 T100. Its very nice but there are design features on the Interceptor that are superior
@@peterclatworthy3695 I have a 2012 Bonneville SE and a 2012 Thruxton. Also a 2020 Bonneville Speed Twin 1200. They are all technically different iterations of the Bonneville. The throttle body 865cc Triumphs are very similar to the INT650 and Continental GT; the throttle-by-wire on the Speed Twin ruins the ride, it is horrible.
I convinced myself that I wanted a Speed Twin and then rode one. Upgrading the Interceptor to a T100. Lovely bike but should have kept the Interceptor and upgraded my other bikes.
I have just agreed a px of my f800s for an r1100s hopefully here before the weekend to try out around SE Wales. Exited anticipation .... Do you know if the electrical system is can bus like the f800 or normal? It was registered March 2002

ive done carbs on '86/'87s and many others from 1990-1997, and in my experience, the '86 carbs are much harder to install than later models.
Great video, and particularly helpful to me. Based just down the road in Llanelli, so the roads are familiar. Currently riding a VFR800 VTEC, but not really getting on with it and have a burning desire to scratch the BMW itch. I'm quite taken with the R1100s or the K1200rs.
If you are interested in a deal let me know.
Another vote for this. Mine wasn't as quite as quick, and did need some encouragement with a dead blow mallet. I think I just didn't let them warm up under the lamp for long enough and so they needed a gentle tap. But it was nothing compared to previous efforts. Last time I did it, I used an *axe*. I'm not making that up. This time was so easy in comparison, just a couple of minutes, and not a single swear word was required!
This works brilliant, I followed it to the letter and my 33 year-old VRF750 carbs popped straight on no trouble! Thank you sir!
