A variety of old home movies, either mine or collected years ago at some boot market!
I built a telecine to be able to capture the reels then edit and upload for those of you who are curious.

Using AI motion interpolation software to achieve 24fps for 16 or 18fps films
Testing of using Dain-App to try to achieve blu-ray spec 24fps from 16 and 18fps telecine captures. Output as 640x480 as Dain-App crashes on higher resolutions.
See here to view original 18fps video used for this video: th-cam.com/video/lWE4eOX740w/w-d-xo.html
Dain-App found here: grisk.itch.io/dain-app
Its a free windows app (available for Linux too I think) that let you take any form of media like movies, stop-motion, anime, cartoons, sprites, etc and interpolate new frames, generating a bigger frame-rate from the original file. You’ll need an Nvidia card with CUDA to use it.
I wanted to try it as using Frame Blender or Optical Flow in Premiere never really gives good results.
Please note: TH-cams compression is high so film grain isn't well preserved unfortunately.

Mickey Mouse - The Mail Pilot (1933) (DIY Telecine - 9.5mm)
มุมมอง 10K5 ปีที่แล้ว
"Mickey the mail pilot is entrusted with a chest of money. He battles rain and snow, but his biggest battle is against Pete, who has a plane equipped with a machine gun and a harpoon cannon." I bought the 9.5mm film from eBay and built a telecine machine to capture it. It was in a pretty poor state. DIY Telecine for Pathé 9.5mm cine films (2019)
มุมมอง 5K5 ปีที่แล้ว
TIP: Watch with subtitles for more information! Built a DIY telecine to capture a bunch of cine reels I have. I know it's not the best way as it's using claw system. I'd like to build a capstan sprocket-less version in the future but for now, it does the job! Kitty relaxing in sunbeam 1992 (DIY Telecine - Super 8)

Was the best cat in the world! Filmed probably around 1992. Please note: TH-cams compression is high so film grain isn't well preserved unfortunately. Find out how this was done here: th-cam.com/video/kEEqaKTDaVI/w-d-xo.html
Terminator 2 Clip from an Action Replay (DIY Telecine - Super 8)

Removed from the Action Replay toy and then captured. This was one of the first test reels I captured so its a bit jumpy. Please note: TH-cams compression is high so film grain isn't well preserved unfortunately. Find out how this was done here: th-cam.com/video/kEEqaKTDaVI/w-d-xo.html
Safari (DIY Telecine - Standard 8mm)
มุมมอง 1555 ปีที่แล้ว
Unknown location. Was part of a batch of random reels bought at a market 20 years ago! The footage was very dark and had to lighten it a fair bit so quality isn't great. Please note: TH-cams compression is high so film grain isn't well preserved unfortunately. Find out how this was done here: th-cam.com/video/kEEqaKTDaVI/w-d-xo.html
Unknown Zoo (DIY Telecine - Standard 8mm)

Captured on my DIY telecine machine. Reel was from a random box of Standard 8 reels I bought at a local market 20 odd years ago! If anyone knows whereabouts the place is I would be grateful. Winston Churchill funeral 1st January 1965 (DIY Telecine - Standard 8)
มุมมอง 3915 ปีที่แล้ว
I found this Standard 8 reel in a market sale 30 years ago. I have since built a telecine machine to capture the 8mm film. It's of Winston Churchill's funeral procession in 1965. I identified the street as Fleet Street, London. Please note: TH-cams compression is high so film grain isn't well preserved unfortunately. DIY Telecine (v1) for Super 8 and Standard 8 cine films (2018)

I used to have this very clip when I was young, so this takes me back
The first mickey mouse cartoon silent
This is amazing engineering!
Bravo !!!
This is "Mail Pilot" 1933, the sound is not original, of course.
Yup, as title. Was a silent reel so added some music off TH-cams library.
@@homemoviearchives The cartoon was not originally silent though, only the first two mickey m. cartoons "Plain Crazy" & "Gallop'in Gaucho" were made as silents but a sound track was added before they were released
Bravo, greetings from Belgrade
Hi!, Theres´s something I don´t understand... How can I set up the camera lens? I have a Nikon 1 J3 Camera with 2 different lenses and an extra nikon d5000 telephoto lens. could you help me with the setup?
Sure. What issue are you having?
@@homemoviearchives Thank´s for your response! The lenses I have are: Nikon 1Nikkor 30-110 ED IF 1m/3.3ft Nikon 1Nikkor 10-30 IF Aspherical 0.2m/0.7ft Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm 1:4-5.6G ED 1.1m/3.61 ft 52 Do you think my lenses can work? or should I get one?
@@pepetono6374 Personally I would get a fixed length lens such as a 50mm one, reverse mount it to a bunch of barrel extenders so you can get extrememely close. You can try the zoom lenses first as barrel extenders and reverse mount adapters are cheap, but fixed length lenses are generally better quality.
@@homemoviearchives ok, I´ll get one. Thank you!
Pretty cool video, thank you for the explanations (subtitles), that was great.
Bravo, congratulations, your project has nothing to envy the absurd professional cine scanners that cost (€ 12,000-35,000) The results are the same!
I have an old reel movie that has a cartoon from 1933 called Mickey’s Airplane Antics. I can’t find anything about it on google. So now I’m watching all Mickey movies from start to finish to see if it was just renamed. So far it’s I’m not finding anything. Where or who can I write to to find out more info?
Can you take some stills from your reel by placing the film against a lit window? We could give an answer from something like that.
@@drewgormley6933 I have an old movie projector I watched it on.
@@mellaniyswansong7135 Well, you can pretty easily film the movie on your phone when it's playing, and post a youtube video. We can name it for you then.
@@mellaniyswansong7135 is it Plane Crazy from 1928? th-cam.com/video/kCZPzHg0h80/w-d-xo.html
Real cool.
What is the music
From TH-cams library called Brooke's Triumphal March by the United States Marine Band.
wtf is 9.5mm
It's the width of the film stock that was used. Like Super 8, it's just called 9.5mm.
Home Movie Archives ok
Home Movie Archives , I have this on 8mm as “Mickey the Dizzy pilot”. As a home movie it was called that. Why is this the mail pilot if it’s not for theatres
@@theechickengamerz The title at the beginning says The Mail Pilot. Some more information about it: disney.fandom.com/wiki/The_Mail_Pilot

hi, awesome!! do you use all the plugins at the same time? i want to convert my PAL VHS tapes to digital what do you recomemd? cheers
Hi. Sorry for late reply. The VirtualDub plugins are done at the same time. You then frameserve from VirtualDub to AviSynth to do Dirt Removal and some sharpening, and export using FFMpeg. But this is all really for film though. For VHS tapes, use a good capture card for your PC. Then I would use AviSynth and apply QTGMC to deinterlace to 50 fps and upscale to 720p. Maybe add a little sharpening. I will do a short video on a how to for it sometime soon so keep an eye out for it. 😁
@@homemoviearchives these other programs are they free?
@@paulpolizzi3421 Yes they are! They are a bit fiddly to use though which is why I'll do a video tutorial on them soon.
So cool!
I have to admire your tenacity and ingenuity at being able to put this together and with a Pathescope ACE.😀
I had this system when I was a kid. Expensive for 21 seconds but got me into super 8 and my dads collection
Yeah it was an unusual looped system. Think I found it years ago in a sale at a Forbidden Planet store.
