Good start Jordan. As a photographer I love and hate presets in equal measure. I tend to create my own as then I know what type of images (i.e. the shooting conditions) they are going to work on or not. The built-in presets in LR are OK but I always advise people to learn what they are doing. Apply a preset and look at what has changed in the develop module settings panel. Also, with any presets buy or just download for free the same applies - they won't work on every photo equally and often the marketing bilge that presets vendors spout with perfectly crafted images is total BS. But the BIGGEST advice I have is to play around and learn what all the settings do and how they affected one and other. For example, if you increase the exposure you will lose contrast so remember to nudge that up too. If you increase clarity you tend to lose colour vibrance so again, give that some more too. Learn how to read the histogram and how to apply the tone curve. LR is a great tool and when you are paying £10 a month for a tool you want to get the most out of it - thankfully there are so many tutorials out there. The other point I'd make is that it depends on your style of photography. Your example photo is from an event and usually, with event photography, you are applying basic edits (a bit like developing a film) and not going too far with style and artistry. But when shooting portraits or weddings you might want to introduce your own unique style. For example; I have developed about a dozen of my own black & white presets for portraits taken under studio lighting conditions. In total I have over 100 of my own presets for different circumstances. Even when I apply a preset I will usually tweak the settings slightly in one way or another. Finally, be careful with the "Previous" button! It copies ALL the changes you made - including the crop. So, if you are cropping images it may be better to make a preset of the colour style (minus the crop settings) to apply to your image set. You can also sync settings from your first image across a set to save time too.
