Survivor Porsche 356C Walkaround
มุมมอง 124หลายเดือนก่อน
This 1964 Porsche 356C is headed to the detailer for a good scrub and clay bar, then on to the son of the long-time owner who passed away last year. It is a true survivor car that has undergone a complete mechanical refresh and will bring years of joy for another generation. Yes, a keen eye will spot an earlier sunroof section was spliced in in the early 70s. #porsche #nmdesertclassics #carmain...

VW Beetle vs. Horse…and other desert treasures
how do you get titles
Great question! Many of the cars in the Diamond Auto yard have titles. The ones that don’t would require filing for bonded title in your state.
Any updates on the top?
I sold the car to a friend almost immediately after installing the top. It sits unused in his car warehouse about a thousand miles away from him, so I don’t have a good reference point for how the top will hold up to the sun.
@@nmdesertclassics thank you man
Thanks for the video! I need a new top for my z3 and I was hesitant about buying the sierra top! I thought it was a scam. Glad it worked out for you
Definitely worth the money. Sorry for the garbage footage on that video.
I was going to say keep the Jeep but since you said you have multiple other cool cars then I guess it's best to keep the van. You're going to regret selling the jeep though. Nice YJ's are getting harder to find every year
Agreed, but the latest update is a plan to keep the van and create an overlander sienna!
I'm pretty sure I seen a couple Yugo's in there. So much history and memories in them old cars. I hope a bunch of these cars can be salvaged. That place is a gold mine.
Likely. Even though it was “closed” in the 80s, some cars from that era still wound up in there. I found a couple Trabants here in Alamogordo…also odd little cars.
The 74 looks nicely appointed - 2.0 and Fuchs wheels. Keep us posted on the progress!
It definitely is. Luckily, unlike the 76, it was spared the dealer install AC chopping…
@@nmdesertclassics Are you planning to pull the AC out of the 76? I might be interested in the under dash unit inside the interior if the blower motor still spins...
@@RobPerry possibly. Honestly, I might actually sell the 76 to help my son focus on the 74.
I’d rather lose a body part than give up my Toyota…
Right?!?!
Jeep stays. Period. Why? Simple. No kid will remember a ride in a minivan, but all kids will remember riding in a Jeep. As a parent, raising your kids also means giving them an unforgettable childhood. Give them a lifetime of memories in a Jeep. Keep the Jeep. Trust me. Your kids will thank you when they become adults.
Great logic!
Jeep yj Sahara editions are very valuable and they keep going up in price , they are definitely a collectors item. You already bought a new van so keep the Jeep! You will be hunting one down in the future and regretting selling it for a long time
Thanks for the input. That was my first thought but the more I think about it, the van would add a whole new dimension of flexibility for the daily family life.
And so the adventure begins! Good Luck! Always great to see one more of these classics on the road.😁
Thanks! We’re excited to do a few more 914s. My son still regrets letting go of the yellow 72 he got from the same back yard when he was a sophomore in high school. He’s 22 next month and in a much better financial place to take on the 74 2L.
A lot of 80s and 90s cars for a place that closed in the 70s
Yeah. I’m assuming “closed” meant not open for business, but obviously took on some 80s/90s garbage along the way.
When I was younger I would love going to the Junkyards with my Father I'd love walking around them and checking out the old cars that were there , Now adays there aren't many Junkyards around I do miss them day's 🤔
Even more rare these days is a junkyard that will let you roam around…
Pontiac solstice fuse replacement for glove compartment trunk opener
Are you looking to learn how to do that?
Flash backs when I saw a 74' Porsche when it was brand new.. So many memories of a sweet car.
Great memories!
I am in Alamo also. The yard next door I used to buy out of….
Do you have contact info for this yard?
Right now the story is its in a family dispute. I worked with a guy who was married to one of the daughters but he died a couple yrs ago. I was getting cars out of there about 20yrs ago. Then they stopped selling and crushed most of the yard. It was full.
SMH
Did you get the rx7 or rx2. I did see them both and I am interested in the rx2 for my son
I have not been back to buy anything, yet
@@nmdesertclassics i talked to him this morning about the rx2. Should be going to look at it this weekend.
@@jeremylargeteau7712 that’s awesome! When you go, I might need to send some cash with you to bring back some VW doors… lol
You can text me at 4307192
All I see is junk. I live in Roswell, the owner never wanted to sell anything. Now its too late.
Pretty sad, for sure
Awesome!!
We tried our hardest to buy this one, but the owner’s son would not budge. I don’t blame him!
So beautiful! Varoooooom!
A work of art, for sure
nice seats
Honestly even better in person!
That guy is ridiculous. Freaking crook
This is a gold mine😊
Couldn’t agree more. I need to make time to go back over there as soon as it cools down.
Look forward to the restore process! Love 914's! I have a 74 2.0
Thanks. It’ll be a long slow process, but we are excited to begin.
3 fantastic cars! Great find.
Thanks. We agree!
Looks more like Ukraine
Rough area but not that rough…
Would you like it back? Just rebuilt the engine, resealed the transaxle installed a retro sound stereo with 8” subwoofer. It’s a great car tons of fun. Everything works as it should.
I have tons of pictures of how it started if you’d like them…
New homes indeed...A little love and soon they will be "alive once again."
Yes…another chance at life!
Yeah..too bad my 2011 fit blower is not configured the same..😂😂😂..horizontal not vertical.pain in the be😊hind
Theory is the same. You’ve got this!
Looks really nice.
Thanks, Dan
I live in Roswell. And the owner of this place wants $3000 or more for anything if you can get ahold of him. Everything here will rot away.
I got him to deal a bit but never closed a deal (my fault, not his).
I've been in there and the guy wants WAY too much

lol. For sure!
I can smell it too…from memory 😁😅
Rancid piss, lol
Cool car, nice story behind it. Thanks for sharing
I always thought that the R was for a radial tire as opposed to a bias ply tire
That makes perfect sense!!!
From my brother the ASE Master of All Things: Another way to use the equation would be to increase your "footprint" width by decreasing the aspect ratio to fill the allowable space. Plus sizing, as it is called on tire store sites, will allow several sizes wider of a tire but must decrease the profile to fit in the space
What I referred to as “profile” is also known as “aspect ratio”.
Ya looks like junk.
That would be a rat rod…
This was useful information, thank you.
More important than most people realize. Tires can “look” good and be “bad”. Are there any other car maintenance topics you’d like me to cover?
Very cool1 Had a 66' VW in high school, and was a lot of fun driving and working it!
I really wanted to spend the time to finish that bug, but the time just wasn’t there, so I traded it for something that requires less time.
I’d love to own another 914 if it wasn’t for the price of parts. Used parts at that at king’s ransom prices. Loved those seat tilts as well. Top off, laid back in the seat and humming down the road. “F” radio, “f” air conditioning just listening to the tone of the pipes.
My second car was a 71 914. Loved it!
Air conditioning 😳
Dealer installed. I’m not a fan… lol
... Is Sea Sand a VW color ? Or, who produces the paint, if you know ? As I have a car, that would do well with the color... Thanks ! ...
Stock 1966 VW Beetle color. Any paint store should be able to mix it.
@@nmdesertclassics ...Thanks bud ! ... 😎 ...
@@larryg.9187 easy stuff. Thanks for watching!
Cool car, keeping the stock powertrain and suspension? I had one when it was worth nothing, looked cool but really needed more damping and low end torque.
The plan is to keep them all stock. I owned a 71 1.7L 914 back in the 90s. It was definitely underpowered but oh so fun. The Miata before the Miata.
Great find! Very cool!
Thanks. Can’t wait to retrieve them!
4000 miles on the Toronado...not buying that.
Not sure I do either. I didn’t dig into it too much with the owner, but he’s convinced it is original. I could buy it if it only if it was parked outside for 40 years…but who knows. I’ll check it out better next time I go over.
If he bought it on a "Used car lot" in West Germany, most likely it was the 'lemon lot' on base or post. Know why? That's a US-spec car, not Euro-spec. I can tell by looking at it, it's not gray market either
I would agree except the bill of sale isn’t from a person, but a lot. I’ll post the documents when I retrieve the cars.
@@nmdesertclassics that would be unusual, because it is US spec. A serviceman may have sold it to a German dealer
@@olikat8 agree it would be kind of odd. When I lived overseas I couldn’t sell a US spec car off base. However, the paperwork shows what it shows. I’ll take another look soon and see if I can figure it out.
@@nmdesertclassics I know that some Germans did buy cars from soldiers. Corvettes, Mustangs, luxury cars, occasionally oddball things like Suburbans.
I can’t speak for Germany or Belgium, since I was too young to remember those. My experiences were from the Philippines, Japan and Italy.
