Cherry laurel does well, I live in a clay soil area and everyone has laurel or privet hedges. Clay soil is nutrient rich so really has benefits . Personally I'm about to do winter rye cover crops to assist the drainage, because I've seen impressive results from this.

Is the 'Promix' you're using the kind that comes compressed in blocks? I can't find one called 'Vegetable Pro Mix'.

Peaches, apples, oranges and lemons all fair very well in my heavy clay soil on our farm, figs love it too, plums and prunes also loves the clay...

I dont know if you will get this comment, but grocery store potatoes are often treated w an anti sprout spray or chemical so they wont sprout in the store. Best bet is to order seed potatoes from a certified potato seed company. Thank you for the video.

I'm zone 5b/6a and I've actually had great success growing them outdoors as a perennial in a raised bed. So long as the drainage is good you should be fine.

Great video, and you are correct, that seeds will more than like germinate the following year. Fermentation however is for long term viability and storage. The process of fermentation greatly increases the viability and disease protection for longer periods of time. I germinated 90 percent of seeds that I fermented 10 years ago. i have used the traditional method of drying and reduced viability to about 50 percent. Still not bad, but I have had problems with wilt. The process doesn't take long to do , and acts as an insurance policy. Why take the chance. Thanks

Cow peas. Deep root systems and nitrogen fixers, Try early crop of daikon, chop the tops, and overbland peas. They will produce a lot of green manure as well as embed their roots.

I’m in Montana and I saw they are growing really well in Canada! So I bought 100!😂 I made a metal mesh box to plant 90 of them (so the voles don’t eat them) and I have ten in a pot to bring in over the winter just in case. I made sure to give them lots of wood chips and sand in their dirt. It is October and I have leaves coming up in both, but we shall see if I get flowers this year. I’m so excited!

Maximilian sunflowers. The tubers are edible/the stalks make good starter wood and they grow crazy good in ridiculously compacted clay soil.

Good recommendations. I would add cornus family and willows. Service berries and hazelnuts too. And when planting on heavy soil, do not dig big holes that you fill with organic rich materials - that will create a water grave to your plants. Dig a large shallow hole and plant to a mound so the water will not stay on the top.

Goumi berries are not a good plant. They take over. Plant only in containers. Better advice is to not plant it at all. The berries do not taste good. I'm trying to kill it now, and I had to destroy all the plants in the vicinity and dig up the roots, and they are deep roots. They keep coming back. I may have to use poison.

Such a great video. I have a garden in Iran with heavy clay soil and have been thinking about letting all the grass grow to make the soil breath better. I also stopped watering my fruit trees directly. Instead I dug hole in between every 4 trees and I do all the watering in there. This way the trees are forced to grow roots and become stronger.
