This is lovely stuff!! I listen to the audiobooks every night. I dreamed he wanted me to adopt a shelter dog as a companion for my rescue English Pointer....he was very clear on the matter. I called my grandson, who loves me and asks no questions, and we went to the County Jail where shelter dogs are trained by inmates. We found a 11 year old Shepherd/Aussie mix with 2 tone eyes. I named him PiGi....

Having met Newby (and read a number of his books) I don't believe his tome was intended to be read with such dramatic urgency. He was a bit more laid back than that. Nevertheless a good effort but a tad harsh on the ear.

Used to listen to this a lot as a kid. Absolutely loved this story and narration, and the music has forever been engrained in my head. Hearing it now, I can still remember the images I had in my mind's eye when I first listened to this book over 15 years ago. I'm very pleased to find it here, while several other childhood audiobooks of mine seem to be lost to time!

I had a school friend (Hello Mike Appleton!) who lived near enough to Liverpool to record Kremmen episodes from Radio City on cassettes he brought back to school in north Oxford in the mid-late 1970s... They were like gold dust! We heard all the episodes, but not necessarily in broadcast order. Thanks for jogging those wonderful memories.
