I saw Alice In Chains open for AC/DC. People were booing them off the stage but Layne just kept singing. I had no idea who they were at the time. The never stood a chance. The house lights were still up. The played their hearts out and all they got was boo’s. I felt bad for them. When I found out who they were I started listening to them and the other god fathers of grunge. He is missed. It blows me away how many of the original grunge guys died while the hair metal and heavy metal groups of the 80’s are still alive and touring. Makes me sad.

Listening to this song right after “Nutshell” is an unbelievably gut-wrenching experience, but an important one.

His death still hurts like I lost a family member. Layne had such a major effect on my musical landscape. Got to see him once when AIC toured with VH. I see AIC everytime they come around. It's different but at the same time a blessing that Jerry and Sean carry on with the legacy. Layne was a force and from what I've read a really sweet person.

This song is how I feel. I miss my daughter 💔

I was a teenager when layne died. It was a totally different time then. Im a different person now than i was. I have a son now who is 13 and one who just turned 23. I cannot imagine losing either of them to heroin. I reflect on layne different as an adult in my 40s. Its just so fucking tragic. His family and friends had to watch him dig deeper into addiction and of course, you are powerless over an addict. You can yell, scream, be nice, cry, threaten, guilt, try to make deals, stay, leave...it doesnt matter, the drug wins. I have a big heart for addicts. It may have to do with the music i grew up on, grunge was King in the 90s and remember all the loses music took to drugs.
