FABA is a media platform formed out of the growing need for proper visual representation of African countries online. We produce video stories that explore culture, identity and lifestyle of Africans locally and in the diaspora.
The Art of: ARUS
The Art of: is a series that spotlights cultural practices, artisanal trade, and craftsmanship indigenous to Africa. Through visual documentation, it aims to preserve indigenous practices and the art of their techniques while highlighting the work of the artisans and practitioners who carry forward these traditions.
Our first episode transports us to a small Nubian community in Kibera, Kenya, where filmmakers April and Tierney Walker document some of the fascinating beautification rituals undertaken by a Nubian bride 'ARUS' as part of her wedding preparations.

I encourage you to list authentic Afrikan artifacts, handmade crafts and original digital music with umssuka global marketplace
I'm watching this video in August 2024, and how much is a bag of flour?😢😢
Remarkable show, very interesting to see the neighborhood baking practices. But it's sad that bromate is widely used. If Ascorbic acid is a effective substitute, I hope they switch. Bakers should appreciate the role they play in the health of their community. Britain went through an arduous process to standardize bread ingredients and to exclude non nourishing ones. It's a struggle, but worth it.
Absolutely STUNNING the film and everyone and everything shown!!!!
Footballer cutouts were so innate with barbers back then
watching this video now, Mr. Oyeyemi would be wishing flour was still sold for 11,000
Woforo dua pa a na yepia wo. Umssuka
Gorgeous!
Love this!!
I love watching women adorn themselves and then expressing the joy of it all❤️ The fabrics, the henna, the music and their voices……keep up the good work. I’ll always make sure to watch ❤️
Beautiful visuals and even more beautiful music 🧡
Lovely sights!
Lovely
Awesome to see this, greetings from Argentina ❤

I am Jamaican. Amos Shackleford was my Great-grandfather. One of his daughter Doris, was my grand mother. This Agege bread they're speaking of, appears to be what we call in Jamaica "Hard dough Bread". That's probably where Amos got the idea. Just sayin..
Wow thank you very much ❤️
interesting story thank you, does your family still live in Nigeria or have close links to nigeria?
@@Pschool1 We don't know much of his exploits in Nigeria, aside from the bread. So no. no connection to Nigeria, or any potential Nigerian relatives at all. ALL my family/relatives are in Jamaica, USA or Canada. I speculate that my grandmother was one of his "off the books" children, as I don't have any record of her coming from a marriage.
@@KENZIIE_lol ohhh how interesting.. thank you for replying and sharing again ! 😊
I don't think people understand the level of craftsmanship that goes into this art you've all simplified. I have looked at your other visuals especially the golden brick bread. Childhood memories, outstanding works! If y'all see yourselves heading towards Zim at any time, contact: 'Telling a good Zimbabwe story' Rutendo Matinyarare. He's a one man show deserving of your expertise however possible. Please continue your 'provoking emotions artistry' just wonderful.
We appreciate your response so much and we'll definitely keep this in mind for whenever we are in Zimbabwe.
Great job! Amazing reporting.
Best of best my city
