Shirley Horne: Sassared & Blowed
มุมมอง 11K8 ปีที่แล้ว
This documentary on jazz vocalist Shirley Horne keeps her memory and phenomenal music alive. She was such a rare talent with an angelic voice. It was such an honor to meet her, do this documentary and have it available for generations to come. This DC native was a national treasure! Originally aired on BET On Jazz, produced by Ada M. Babino. #ShirleyHorne, #jazz, #jazzvocals
Just what I needed to calm my lil spirit down tonight. So much devastation going on all around me. Hurts my heart so bad. But this lady's calming soothing voice and manner just kind of lets me know it's going to be alright don't worry so. Geez I see why Williams and Miles loved her so. She reminds me of my matriarchal family in North Carolina, soft spoken but don't take no mess. The music in this video calmed me I've been feeling so heart broken and stressed. And I am grateful. I can't wait to get my social security check so I can rush right out and grab some of her music. Thank you so much.
Her voice and feeling were incredible!!!!
loved the documentary. Any reason why there's an 'e' added to the end of the surname in the title?
Not sure why on her sername; but have seen horne and horn spelled both ways.
Must be a type o
The BEST storyteller of all time!
I loved her musical stylings. Always so elegant and classy.

"You step inside" (Shirley talking about getting lost in a song). Just like her and her music... the best that ever was, or will be.
Thank you for this! Well done❤️
About half of those songs on "Here's to Life" are some of the best songs I've ever heard.
She was great
I discovered Shirley Horn a few years ago, as a musician myself, I don't know how I didn't know about her before, but what a delightful artist to listen to, she has a marvelous style all her own. (I saw one performance where she wore gloves to play the piano! As a pianist all my life, I don't know how she did that, I doubt I could, but it didn't seem to deter her from anything I saw her ordinarily play. Very enigmatic, I wonder if she was having some arthritis in her hands or just why she wore gloves that time, but she was as great as ever!
Driving home one night and “Where do you start” came on….well I just lost it and cried all the way home remembering my divorce…no one has touched my heart like she did that night and I’ve been a fan since. Probably the only female singer I enjoy listening to. Thankyou Shirley
Thank you for this beautiful piece of work! I took my 87 year old aunt to see Ms. Horn at the Bohemian Caverns in the renovated bldg. She was so gracious and beautiful! I am so happy to have so many memories.
Yes, she was awesome, and so cool. I remember going to one of her Bohemian Caverns performances too. It's to bad that that venue is not operating on the level that it used to be for jazz offerings. God Bless!
Was Ms Horn really this humble and cool?
Truly an original! So appreciated having the opportunity to do this documentary
Can you answer my question, since you know her to a degree?
thanks for this side of an amazing talent. I told her once " its tough pulling emotion out of songs all the time" and she said " You ain't kidding.
I enjoy this documentary so much, I truly appreciate the person-Shirley Horn, she was cool. Steve Williams gave this doc humorous color and flavor. Well done..
