I use the Gopro Hero 7 Black for 99% of my pov shots (this one was with the Gopro)

yes, currently I have a Canon 100-400mm lens and most of the time I'm using it at 400mm

Based off how I was in the moment I would say it's leaning to the sounds, but I guess I can be scary to something so small (like this black squirrel) ha 😅

With this one I was at 400mm. If any of my film is at 800mm I usually put it in the title, description and/or in the video to showcase just how far the animal is from me. Also I can only do 800mm when paired with my tripod, if I don't then the footage is shaky/unusable...

haha, it definitely felt like that at the time! And omg I've always wanted to get some photos of Douglas Squirrels as I just LOVE squirrels and want to see more of them. This one was definitely a curious one that wasn't as shy as others, but still active enough to keep me on my toes! Thanks for the comment/lovely words Suzanne :)

Thank you! I find Northern Cardinals (especially the females) are so so skittish and the moment they see you they fly off, so It was nice that this one was there long enough to get on film! :)

lol, I have been meaning to get a shotgun microphone for some time now as this is the unfortunate aspect of filming wildlife in/around the city... I am happy you liked the footage and I will definitely be getting the audio more towards the animals in the future. It's still something I am working hard on as I am still getting used to doing videography with my photography. Thanks again!

This one is actually a black squirrel. They are very very similar to grey squirrels, and they are both in my area

@@matthewoakesphotography no sweat! I have so much to learn about identifying hawks and falcons myself. I was super confident I spotted my first red tail hawk in November, but some commenters pointed out that it may have actually been a Cooper’s hawk!

@@matthewoakesphotography As you know my profound curiosity for wildlife, I couldn't help myself and searched high and low for numerous photos of both raptors. The photos of the juvenile Sharp-shinned seems to be the closest guess because of the lay of the feathers on its breast. The Red-tailed Hawk has a white or yellowish breast patch whilst the juvenile Sharp-shined is more like the one in your video...And my Bruce thinks it's the juvenile Sharp-shined too! 🤓

haha, funny enough I knew they are Ebony Jewelwings, but when setting up the names of my videos I was lazy and just left it as a very vague description. RIGHT, they unfortunately get a bad rep, kind of like Pigeons sadly... I was just happy to film them without getting in their way or make them uncomfortable and fly off.

@@matthewoakesphotography Yeah, I know...I grew up with them in the Gaspé Peninsula and when my passion for birds began, Seagulls were not really included...But thanks to my husband who lives on the Oregon Coast, he inspired me to love them when he pointed out what strong flyers they are! And as for Pigeons, I only favour the native ones!

Somehow I started to like them after that and the likability of them kept growing. Also thank you for the lovely email with the Seagull taken by your partner, I really enjoyed it!

@@matthewoakesphotography My pleasure! That Seagull video cracks me up, haha! On the Oregon Coast we have the Ban-tailed Pigeon. Still not a huge fan of them as they're not that interesting to me but they have my respect being a native! We also have lots of Ospreys and Bald Eagles there as the Necanicum River flows into the Pacific Ocean in the area. We even saw right above us on the beach a Bald Eagle bully an Osprey with a fresh fish catch in his beak, so much that the Osprey dropped his catch, Baldy flew down and took off with it! What an amazing moment in time 🤗Poor valiant Osprey though...But such is precious wildlife!

Omg, they are mine too! so cute and fluffy, can't even feel them when the hop on my hand to grab some seeds and fly off, ha!
