Hill Country Angler
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 28 ก.ค. 2015
My name is Ian and my channel is all about fishing for fun: Ever since I was a kid, I have loved fishing for different freshwater and saltwater species. I grew up in Dallas, Tx and was lucky to have countless great fisheries to explore, but I have since moved to the Austin, Tx area which has led me to primarily fish the rivers and lakes around the Texas Hill Country. From the San Marcos to Guadalupe River, to Canyon lake, and even the salty flats of the Laguna Madre… I fish it all and love doing it. I am blessed to be located in the greatest part of the greatest state in the USA. So join me on my journey to catch Texas sized fish all while enjoying life and the many, many things this beautiful part of the state has to offer. Like & Subscribe to keep the vids coming!!!!

Fishing Canyon Lake: These Texas Bass Are HARD To Catch!!!

Texas bass fishing is where it's at, but on Canyon Lake in New Braunfels, Texas the fishing can sometimes be tough. This day was no different, but still proved to be better than I expected... seriously, it can be hard to locate the fish on this reservoir. If you have any tips or tricks for catching bass on Canyon Lake, please feel free to let me know how you get it done down in the comments. Ot...

Fishing with the Perception Hi-Life 11.0
From Port Isabel, Texas ,trout bite has been great past couple years, that was a monster! Trout are abundant on dock lights free lining live shrimp or small shad lures. Black drum have been biting during slack tide, fish bites or dead shrimp. Great catches!!
I’ve always wanted to get down to Port Isabel! Heard it’s awesome out there🤙🏼
Great video - thanks! I am really leaning toward NuCanoe for wide open deck and stability for fly fishing, mainly smaller lakes and some rivers in north Texas area. Also would like to start taking my grandson fishing so tandem is important while he is still young. How would you compare unlimited to Frontier 12?
The unlimited will be your best bet. The main difference between the two models is drainage. The unlimited drains water out quickly and efficiently, where as the F12 tends to hold more water in the kayak. The unlimited also paddles better and can hold more weight. I hope this helps🤙🏼
I'm debating between the unlimited or a pwr129.. for sure want xi3 bow mount, but the unlimited will cost me a little more with having to buy the front hatch and other accessories.. I always wanted the F12 What's your opinion? Go nucanoe?
If it were me I’d go with NuCanoe. But if it makes you feel better, Bonafide makes a great kayak and has great customer service as well. I’d buy the unlimited for its spec sheet, and for its versatility. You can easily add pieces to it as you go. The F12 is a great option as well, the unlimited is just better for power and has better drainage.
I like fishing Dunlap as well. Give me a heads up the next time you go.
@@malcolmholliday1172 will do bro! Gotta wait for those ski boats to settle down before I go out there again lol
Where is that dam located in San Marcos
South of the Blanco and San Marcos confluence by about a mile.
Shit, man, you could throw a crank bait on that rod holder troll for some fish while you have a beer.
That’s what I’m saying. Frees up the hands for extracurricular activities😂
Thats good eating
Yes sir! Nothing better.
You should come down here and fish the flats they take you for a ride
@@TxHCfishing i fish down in Rockport/ Port Aransas all the time! They are a lot of fun to catch in that skinny water.
Dang that’s my spot! lol. I head to that stretch after it gets too hot. The shade is nice and I’ll get out of the yak to cool off. Nice fish. I am headed there Saturday if it doesn’t rain.
It’s a fun spot. No doubt you can catch some good fish there if you put in the time. It’s got everything; bait, current and shade. It’s also a great place to hangout like you said. Good luck and tight lines this Saturday🫡✊🏼
WhataHawg! Nice feesh
@@fishing4dinner made up for the rest of the day… fighting wake boats and catching dinks.
@@HillCountryAngler I bet! W/ canyon down it’s always amateur hour out there

Hell, yeah, nice catch! Wake boats and wave runners drive me insane and I’m on a good size boat. Keep an air horn handy blast it those idiots
Caught some good reds out there good eating
@@edwardhorning8294 i agree! I need to get out there soon🤙🏼
Turn your motor to either side then retract it. Much easier.
@@714_oc_fishing-CHF great advice! I’ll try that next time I’m out.
@@HillCountryAngler I'm getting my unlimited hopefully Monday... getting the bulldog red. I have everything for it... just need the damn kayak! 😂 I'm running the hobie right now... I'll run both! 🥴🤦🏽

And it’s a good beer!
@@bruceallen2401 a good one indeed!
TPWD has no advisories for either lake, the fish are safe.
Good to know! I’ll be out there soon to try and fill the freezer.
Where in port A were you fishing?
Redfish Bay area🫡
Don’t know why they allow fishing cabins there …we all know they are just going to end up being junk after the first hurricane hits them
@@slange455most of them are still being fixed from the last hurricane. We saw all new windows and siding on a few.
But its Lone Star! Your kayak must hate you. LOL J/K

You’re not gonna be disappointed! Which one did you grab? They are all great. I have the unlimited and a flint. I’d like to add a pursuit to the mix but I don’t think the wife would appreciate that too much😂
@@HillCountryAngler unlimited as well. Really like the tandem but can geek out on the solo setup too.
@fishing4dinner yep it’s definitely great for both uses! I’ve loved mine so far.
Cool vid. Is there a place to fish from land?
@@joemills4716 at this particular lake I would say almost 50% of it is accessible from the bank. It’s a great place to take the family (or just yourself) to bank fish for big reds. I can’t remember how much, but you do have to pay to enter the park. It’s well worth it in my opinion.

Probably be really easy for someone to get mercury levels tested, in fact it's probably already been done and the info is somewhere lol
The info is deff out there somewhere and I’m sure there are higher than recommended levels of mercury. As long as you’re not eating fish from that lake multiple times a week I think it’s probably not ever going to be an issue. Just my opinion though!
@@HillCountryAngler Wouldn't stop me, I grew up on gulf fish in Louisiana, can't be any worse lol
We just bought a 14ft canoe. Where do you usually launch on lake Dunlap?
Id launch at Shumans Beach launch or under I-35. Both are good spots. I-35 launch is a little raunchy at times, but it’s free. Schumans will set you back 10-15 bucks to launch, but it’s a more quiet ramp.
Hey I like the videos. Im new to the Seguin area you wana show me some shore spots sometime? I need a fishing buddy out here
Im always down to go fishing! I mostly go kayak fishing though. Maybe we will run into each other one of these days.
That’s a honker for that stretch!
@@fishing4dinner it was a good one for sure! And was the only fish I caught up that way.
Love the video! Good stuff bro!
Preciate it man!
Haha the river rats finally decided to grace us with their presence. Hilarious Too bad you lost the frog, I was really hoping to see you catch some on straight braid….that whole braid to leader thing drives me crazy. I’m convinced I’ll never catch fish straight braid yet I’ve never tested it…meanwhile I always gripe about having to do the braid to leader knot thing. Dangit I sound like that dood beachin about spiders on the river now 🙈
They are out and they are rowdy as ever. Went out a few weeks ago and found a whole pavilion floating down the river… ridiculous. Nahhh not even close to that dude… the guy scared of the spiders is hard to beat!!! But yea straight braid on a frog has worked for me all over the state. But you know how these clear water bass can be. I’ll probably be doing a “frog only” day soon. Just to see if I can’t get one of those big boys to bite. I’ll be running straight braid on that trip for sure.
Goal set - goal met! Glad you got out there and off before all the river rats came crawling out. That Guad was a nice one! Love the patterns on those true locals. BH are def supposed to be weird LOL
Get it!!!
You know it!!!
You're either freezing or overheating in texas. They haven't solved that problem yet
Mostly overheating but yea we get some crazy weather😂
Hey bro I have some great spots on the SanMarcos. We should fish together some time!
Let’s get it! I love fishing the San Marcos. Lol most of my videos are from there.
“Buttholes are supposed to be weird” 😭 need that on a shirt lol
I’ll start working on the shirt asap🫡
What a great breakdown. And great content. I'm looking to get a Frontier 12 as my first kayak. What are the first 3 upgrades you would recommend for a NuCanoe Kayak. I'm thinking the keel guard would be one of the top ones like you mentioned.
Thank you for the comment! Regardless of if you are a fisherman or not, I would get a yak attack black pack for gear storage. Then id grab a keel guard for hull protection. After that I’d look into powering the kayak with the Xi3 motor guide. I love mine and would buy it again 1000 times. Hope this helps🤙🏼
@@HillCountryAngler Really great! thanks a ton! Will definitely get the Yak attach and keel guard. The motor guide may be a "Next year" thing - once i have more hobby dollars to spend! haha
@@NoobSkuleBus and that’s totally understandable! The great thing about the unlimited is you can scale up over time. Enjoy dude!
I live in Schertz, maybe we'll cross paths at some point. I'm getting ready to purchase a fishing kayak within the next couple weeks.
Hopefully so man! There are some great spots around our area and I’m usually fishing at one of them. If you see me, make sure to say what’s up. Tight lines🤙🏼
Can you message me what soil site this is bro? Just moved back to NB after 4 years and wanna get on some channel cats
What’s up bro! Welcome back to NB. The spot in this video was actually in Kyle. Soil conservation site 5.
Great video and love the catches, I’m glad you had a good 4th of July fishing. I got skunked 😂
Thanks brotha! Hey we all skunk sometimes😂 Nothing worse than going to make a video and you don’t catch a single fish… happens more than id like to admit lol
If the dang PA14 and the U12 were the same price, which one you going home with? Additional use case is some ocean fishing.
That’s tough bc you throw in the ocean aspect. For offshore/ BTB fishing, I think the Pro Angler is the best option. Just bc you have the pedals, it’s a bigger boat, and there is more storage. But for versatility I would choose the Unlimited every single time. If you do multiple types of fishing you will be very happy with the Nucanoe. So to answer your question… I’m going with a U12 regardless of price. It just fits my fishing style the best.
good work
Thanks brotha!
Nice job! How about those cows at 8:15… my SMR vids posts today!
Gotta love those San Marcos cows with their river front property lol! They are living the life😂 looking forward to your video drop!
Great content... Lets go fishing ( Lake LBJ )
Let’s do it! I’ve never really fished LBJ but I’ve heard it’s great.
Oh and what the hell I just read your bio and we got the same name! Cheers to you Ian
Cheers to you too fellow Ian! Thanks for tuning into my channel. I have used a drop shot rig before, but there are a lot of submerged lay downs where I fish. Texas rig helps me get in the thick of it without snagging my line on anything. A drop shot will definitely work out there though.
Also have you ever tried a drop shot in that clear water instead of the Texas rig?
Popped up on my recommended, that guad was awesome
Awesome video man , how's the nucanoe treating you?
Thank ya sir! The Nucanoe is a beast. Definitely a great decision to buy this yak. Can’t wait for the next time I can get out on the water
