    Man, awesome upgrades! And I love your craftsmanship. I will have to look into getting that fancy hinge you used to make the upward-opening door on the cabinet below. I have some questions on your dust collection, if you don't mind: 1) What size hose are you using, and what adapter did you buy to attach it to the Bosch 2-1/2" collection port? 2) What is this blue "cup" you speak of that sits under the router bit and collects 90% of the dust? Where can I buy it? Thanks for posting a great video!

    Thanks for the pull knob idea! I’m new to woodworking and literally ripped a chunk out of the tip of my finger opening the door

    So good. Thank you Gil. I have one of those and it's driving me crazy. Started to look for a different one and came across your video. Solved!

    I have this same table and I'm trying to figure out in my mind what sort of a "cup" you put in for the vacuum hookup. Could you possible add something to your video with the door open and show your setup? Or a link to your web page if you have one. Nobody else asked for this so I hope you see my comment and can provide something. Thanks for all your great ideas.

    Thank you for the video! I’m going to purchase this exact unit soon. Question: What is the height of this unit, both to the top of the table and to the top of the fence?

  • @NBGTFO
    @NBGTFO ปีที่แล้ว

    Until you have a router table with a real router lift, you don't realize what a PITA these little router tables are when you want to change bits or do fine adjustments to the bit height. I owned an RA1181 for almost 2 years before upgrading to a JessEm table with a lift. What a huge difference it made in my enjoyment level. I hated fooling around with that little table.

    The red rings are terrible as they don't sit flush with my table. This causes uneaven cuts sometimes. Im thinking covering the entire top with thin ply so it will be completely smooth.

    Hi Gil, I like the mods you did to the fence pertaining to the T-Track, I like the hold-downs you used cause the knobs were large and seeing as I have dexterity issues in my hands they would help a great deal. Do you remember where you got them, I've looked online and I not able to find them.

    Can you raise the router from the top of the table?

  • @richardhyman6981
    @richardhyman6981 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've had this router table going on six years and you hit on every single one of the things that has bugged me about it. The thing is I never implemented any of the fixes, but I will definitely implement all of these (minus the document holder as I've lost the manual years back). Those bolts for the fence are the top offenders in my book. Thank you for making this video and sharing your tips and tricks!!

      If you do happen to look at this comment, if you wouldn't mind I would love to know where you got those handles you use in the t-tracks to hold the fence down. As I've gotten older I like those large handles and things. They make life easier! Thanks again!

    • @richardhyman6981
      @richardhyman6981 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For anyone wondering about the fence handles check out Rockler's "Easy to grip short jig handle" or "Easy to grip tall jig handle" those seem to be pretty close. Happy woodworking!

    I've watched a few videos on this table and each had a lot of complaints on the exact problems you resolved. Hopefully the other reviewers were able to catch your video as you've taken this table to the next level. Thanks for sharing.

    Can someone help me with the length and locations of the installed T tracks please? I’m new to routing but understand the benefits. I just don’t want to mess up the table. Thanks!

    Wow, those are some great modifications! I especially like the fence adjustment mods you made. I find it hard to find the tracks and knobs for them that fit. Where did you get those? Also, where did you get the silicon cup to add to the vacuum system? Great idea to store the tools too. On my table I just sanded down the sharp inside edge of the plastic ring you put your finger through to open the door and that worked just fine. Any ideas for how to make the fence taller for routing a larger piece?

    Common sense ideas that Bosch engineers should had implemented in the production of this table. I guess seeking advice from people who actually using their products in real life or having a pre-production beta-testing program is not part of their product development.

    Wow! I've had this table for so many years, that I can't even remember when I bought it. But I never thought of any of the great modifications that you added! I'm going to add the handle for the door right away, as the stock handle grommet has been a pain for me since day 1. I do have one question for you: where can I find the tall handles that you used to tighten the fence to your new T tracks? Thank you for your great ideas!

    great video thank you! you did awesome mods to this table! I don't plan to use the fence for my work right now, but i found that my metal table insert is not level with the rest of the table. Did you find this happened to yours too? I am going to see about raising mine up about .030'' today.

    Thanks Gil, great ideas. I just bought this table and spent the first day "Gillifying" mine. You should be running the BOSCH R&D section mate. I just can`t understand why BOSCH didn`t spend the extra $1 to add tracks for the fence adjustment instead of the awful system they supply the table with. I`ll be checking back and continuing upgrades as per your video. Thanks again , I hope BOSCH appreciate you.

    A few great ideas are given here. The T Track idea is one I want to go with for sure. Went shopping on Amazon for some and I started to get a headache looking at so many possibilities. Never used T Track so I'm a little unsure which to go with as well as the bolts to order. Any Suggestions?

    Hi again: Where did you get the dual direction self stick inches tape for atop the fence?

    • @gillis9999
      @gillis9999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't find the exact item, but this will do. I actually bought this exact tape for my router table out fence... They also have some that are reversed... They read right to left so you don't have to put one side upside-down like I did. Pretty easy to find out there in Amazon land... ;) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003FWCSYG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Thanks for putting this video up here! I recently bought this same table and installed the fence track based on your setup. Much needed improvement!!! Next, I’m going to give the fence the vinyl tape measure treatment as well. I’m surprised that Bosch hasn’t sent you a nice check for your modification ideas!💲💲💲💲 I will be coming back to this video several times as I finish my mods! Thanks fir the inspiration!

      @@Roadrunnerwoodworks Sorry it took me so long to answer your question! I cut the track a quarter of an inch from the back edge and the track length is 6 1/2”. I hope this helps!👍🏼
