    Hope the health improves soon. My GP likes telling I'm prediabetic and forgetting I'm steroids for an auto immune condition. The wife's diabetic specialist said its impossible to take a blood sugar reading on steroids; like trying to count sparrows on a hedge. Keep moving about. Cholesterol is a problem, the frothy sherbet can add to it but things like family history etc can hide for years. At least it was caught before it got a tight grip on you. I have been on immune suppressants for almost ten years and was nearly off them till I had a relapse last year. I came off them a week back to have a hip replacement last Wednesday. That was cancelled as I picked up a tummy bug. Afraid I'd risk a cough on the operating table 😄. But I decided I wont be going back on them as they mess with the liver and blood count, made me anemic too. Not a lot of energy when anemic so you have my sympathy. Nothing worse than wanting to progress something and being puffed out. Anyway keep the spirits up, it can only get better. Mind yourself.

      Hi Loki Yes the cholesterol is the thing to watch to be fair the doctor warned me I was off the chart 8 years ago but like most men I didn't follow her instructions so now paying the price but all these things are reversible if you stick to stricked diets and watch what you drink 🙂

      @@alcboating3675 .I have my own nurse Gladys Emmanuel on my case I generally watched what I was drinking , mainly to prevent theft and spillage😄. I thankfully managed to stay under the cholesterol red line. Chocolate would have been my sin. Never really a great drinker, a couple of bottles of beer and a few Malts and it was night night. Till last year I got a COVID booster from THAT company who dosent make it any more due to 'Issues'. I lost a lot of my sense of taste and smell. No taste for beer or malt and gave away some pretty nice malts which were open.🥲 They do go off about 12/18 months after you open them. The alcohol actually evaporates through the cork and with it goes the taste. Probably not a bad thing as they told me I had fat on the liver. Caused by the steroids it was agreed and I got off them asap. Take it easy and do a bit when the energy lets you. Till the next episode.

    I've recently purchased a partially submerged (fresh water) 4108. I've ordered several parts, but not a mechanic. A well seasoned captain at the marina convinced me to try the perkins instead of replacing with a modern with electronic components (that fail in marine conditions) He offered to point and explain whenever I completed each task. Wish me luck.

      Hi Lovely country Croatia👍 Yes these boats are capable of going to sea coastal areas and if equipt with the right engine. Personally I am looking at this boat for river and estuary use only. Regarding a family of 4 I would find this a little cramped for sleeping although day use would be fine. You might want to consider the Birchwood 25 or bigger for a family and continous sea cruising. My last boat was the Bayliner 2655 a 28 foot boat overall which was very capable for sea and family accomodation

    Furniture box tubing might be suitable for the end of the side screen. Its not a structrural point, so not a great strength needed. But where furniture grade box steel wins is its lighter gauge or wall thickness. It could give you that extra couple of millimeter to get wiring through with a bit more ease.They also tend to be near seamless inside. The bog standard shop steel can have quite a rib along one inner side, ripe for rubbing a wires insulation over time from vibration. Its a bit dearer than the standard but its also avalable in a chrome finish, which might match the roof uprights, but not the black frame.

    That gunk might have peeled off as you expected it to if you had been able to take it off soon after fitting the windows. But best laid plans of mice & men. I've had it happen with a two pack sealant which was out of date. I got it free so I took the chance, but I either didnt mix it properly or it had reacted to being over heated in the car boot. It was a special fuel resistant stuff. It was a horrible job to remove, as the pong from it gave you a headache even outdoors. Masking tape left on too long is another horror. But its looking well, I just hope the solvent dosent affect the new paint. I'd run down and throw myself of the jetty if it did. Knowing my luck the tide would be out. 😄

    That looks well; or 'Very tasty nice' as a country lad I used to work with would say. Suggestion for the vent you put on the bulkhead. If you get some plain net curtain material or even a kids tiddler net and put it behind the vent to stop flys and miges finding their way in. I used to be baffled at the amount of midges I;d find in my mobile home when I would arrive for the weekend. Being by a lake there was a ready suppily without my own personal collection. The wall vents were open to the outside and the buggers would set up shop. So I covered all the vents with net and mostly midge free after.

    I'd photograph the inside of the drive when you eventually get the top off, see what shape the oil is in. As a mechanic in a past life and working in aviation pre retiring; I'd nearly go to Ladbrooks and place a bet the top didnt come off. Most lads would be ashamed to turn out a renovation and not replace the screws; and who ever is supervisor has no shame. They desereve naming and shaming. Nothing to say the drive will work. Should have provided you with a test cert. If they are specialists they should have test beds and function tested it. Espicially for £1500.

      Hi Loki It still grates on me how I let them get away with such a bad job. I'm not sure where my mind was at that time, but clearly not on the ball. The initial request was to inspect the drive to see if it was worth restoring. The finished work was worse than I said in the video as it included the transome plate that came back without any work so had to buy a new one also the arm that goes over the drive in two pieces was bent which meant the lifting via the crank handle wasn't possible this was also sorted by us. There is no oil in the leg after completion, so yes, I will definitely be taking pictures and expect I will upload them to TH-cam. As for name and shame, all I will say is that they are in Chertsey, which should tell you the name 😏

    I always thought a Hack was a cough sweet! I usually use iso alchaol 98% for cleaning the residue of silicone off. Acetone would do as well. The sealing the tip is hit and miss, as you say it depends on the age of the tube. I've picked them up and looked at the date an they were passed their shelf life. Most places dont check. Grinding and cutting disks need to be checked. They have a do not use after date on the inner ring. You need to look for it. The resins thet hold the disc together loose their strength quickly after the date the manufacturer states, They can shatter in spectacular fashon, as happened in the workshop one day. Result; a three day cutting and grinding course. Like watching paint dry. The roof has a good depth of wood core.

    It looks very smart and excellent work on your part. I'm guessing the Spradling Hitch vinyl doesn't have an option of a foam backing already applied to the vinyl ? It occurred to me it would save a lot of time not having to cut and glue the foam separately.

      Hi Surfury, No the Spradling is used for all types including walls ceilings and upholstery it does have a backing but to bulk it out we needed to add the foam some of the walls will be done without the foam like the helm bulkhead but on the upper side walls I wanted to give a softer look. All external seats will be covered in the Spradling Hitch but internal seat covers and matteresses will be covered in Agora and the pattern will match the galley worktop

If there were passing boats causing yours to bob about; the height and smaller surface area of the bulkhead foot rest might give rise to somebody slipping tryng to reach the seat. Its a nice piece of kit and looks well. Perfect height for the feet while under way. And the box could be used for storage tooo.

    Yes the active solvent in glue seems to exit stage left as soon as you open the can and with it the bond strength for the next job 3 months later. I worked , some might say I was employed 😄in the aviation industry. Myself and another lad were trainee Elf and Safty people and looked after our own personal health by wearing our masks and PPE etc. In 2015 I was diagnoised with an Immune disease called Myasthenia Gravis. The origional company had closed at that point but I met my old buddy in the neurological clinic for our annual MOT. He said he believed it was the chemical in the air , despite us being careful gave us the condition. THe evidence stacked by the fact that its a very rare condition, at the time we got it only about 750 people had been diagnoised here in Ireland and 1200 or so in the UK. There were about 700 in the maintaince are who might have been in contact with chemicals. We had some 3,000 carconogens on site at that time. And for two people out of 700 to get it was a high percentage. The consultant was quite interested to find two people who worked together having the condition. No cure, and no idea still what triggers it but tablets keep things sweet. Basically the immune system attacks the body. I was nearly in remission last year, looking forward to 4 tablets a day to keep things sweet and then I had a darn relapse. Poor consultant nearly had to be given therapy 😄. But no matter what precautions you take something will get you if it takes a fancy to you. If I feel a headchcoming on its funes, but always a dust mask.

    Time consuming, but it will look well when finished. Just a thought, looking back at the table saw episode. You could build the saw into your work bench at some stage. If you were to cut a section from the edge at some suitable point, the dimensions of the saw top and construct a frame of 2X3" timber with locking castors.Remove the saw from the legs and screw onto the frame. Make it the same height as your bench top and you would have lots of out feed for sheet material. Drop the blade into the body and remove the riving knife, (the lad behind the blade) when you arn't using the saw and you still have the whole flat surface of the bench. There are a lot of videos on You Tube on how to construct the frame.

    I would use that plastic push stick as a template and make wooden ones. That plastic is brittle and could cause more injuries then good if it ever catches the blade. Nice video. 👍🏻

    Its very similar to the Titan saw I bought from screwfix two years ago. Yours has a table extension on the right side. I'm jealous. 😄I have to make one to allow me to cut four foot sheets of ply for an up coming wardrobe project I've been given by her indoors. The support legs are a good idea, i'll take them onboard. I have some shiny melamine to use. For timber the more teeth the better the cut. I will be ordering from a Saxton 100 tooth triple chip blade for mine. The triple chip reduces the tearout on the underside of sheet material in particular. Handy, possibly for what you are doing where both sides of a cut might be seen.

      Hi Loki Thank you for your coments This is the first table saw I have used and I was very please with the result Titan was my first choice however we are very limited with space at the moment in the workshop and as most work would be done outside I went for the lighter option of the Fury5 there is only a small amount of straight cut woodwork to do on the Birchwood now so I was a bit late in the day getting it :) Next purchase I should really make is on the camera as the sound is very low and unfortunately cannot be improved hense a lot of the filming is from behind my Samsung phone which does restrict what i can film

    It worked out pretty well, despite the time it took. You cant rush something like that and risk a blob on your boots. A work mate of mine was pretty good at bending acrylic and polycarbonate for his little side projects. A metal worker by trade, he was probably better with wood. He used to get a couple of heat guns from the tool store and visit the sheet metal shop when they went to lunch so as not to disturb them. (working in aircraft maintance) He would lay his poly of acrylic on the metal bender and give it heat with somebody helping on the second heat gun. When he thought it hot enough into the bender with the back stop adjusted and before anything cooled, up with the bottom plate on the bender to what ever angle he'd chosen. I must say he was good as he rarely had any crazing or cracking. Years of experience I suppose. He used nozzles on the guns to localise the heat to speed things up, a fan shaped one was popular as gets the heat in a line he said. The domestic heat gun is tame I suppose compared to what we had available. The were adjustable up to 500 degrees C.

      Hi Loki Yes it went better than expected for a first go. I was going to do the hatch in 10mm but decided 6 would be strong enough and didn't give myself much hope of bending the 10 without a proper heat bench. The other piece I have to do will be easier as it's only 3mm and needed for a chart cover on my Sealine 365. I will film that as well but won't put that up on TH-cam until I start the refit work on that one although that may well be during this coming summer as I need to get it out for the insurance survey

    How is the paint now a year on? I’m Painting my boat with one up and top lack plus.. sold to be on the word that it’s the “ducks nuts” I think your channel is the only one that’s essentially covered it that iv found. And iv been searching extremely hard for more information around the products. I figure with the one up after each coat hit it with a 400 grit sand paper and paint again till you have it nice and level. Kind of wishing now I just went with the “know” instead of taking the risk of using it then having to paint it again in the future. Cheers

    • @alcboating3675
      @alcboating3675 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The paint still looks good but to be fair it's been covered for most of the year while I've been working on the inside and the decks only had the undercoat on, I intend to give all surfaces at least 6 coats then polish. There is some slight orange peel which should polish out in the end I think that to completely illiminate it you need to be inside at the ideal temprature and be able to do each coat consecutively.

  • @loki7441
    @loki7441 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That seems thankfully to have gone to plan and looks well. I dont know if you have much more acrylic to cut or drill but here is a tip given to me by a sheet metal worker for drilling acrylic. Basically he took the drill with the bit in it and drilled the floor of the workshop with it. By doing that he said it takes the very sharp edges off the bit and helps avoid splitting the sheet as the bit breaks through. Backing the sheet with timber doesn't always guarantee a clean break through; but it reduces the risk big time he said. Also as you probably know a slower speed helps. The sheet metal guys used acrylic a lot in making templates of rivet positions on aircraft skins. Much cheaper than cocking up a sheet of 7071 or 2024 grade aircraft aluminium. A rub with a smooth grade wet and dry paper 400 or 600 with water will mist up any visible edges and gives a nice finish.

    • @alcboating3675
      @alcboating3675 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes slow speed and a piece of wood underneath cast is more forgiving than extruded Acrylic I think I would have struggled with the extruded stuff. Only pieces I need now is the one for the door which I can get made to exact size then I am doing the main hatch with a front curve possibly in 6mm I expect I will have to do the bend myself I've already modelled the hatch and fitted the hinges this is in another video still to be finished

    Thats a nice job and looks really well. I remember the 'Black Ash' trend back in the late 80's early 90's. I worked with a guy who had done out his whole lounge in it , right down to a black couch. We used to take the mick out of him, saying that if there were ever a power failure he'd fall over everything in the room.

    Damaged back. You have my sympathy. Frustrating not being allowed / able to do the normal things and especially when you want to be cracking on with those jobs! I trapped a nerve in the back about ten years ago, closest pain I can compare it to is a lumbar puncture. Look after it. I'm trying to cast my mind back over forty years to my apprentice days. The old land rovers used Perkins in them. Definitely the 4.326. I remember it vividly being in LWB one I worked on. The 4.107 & 4.108 were very close , the 108 having different cylinder liners. I think the pumps were self priming, but bleeding the lines was necessary. and a tad messy. Might be something as simple as a dodgy fuel shut off solenoid. Hope you find it soon. Annoying after all the work done.

      @alcboating3675 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comments Loki I will pass your tips onto my son I know he had changed the shut off method on the engine from manual to solenoid so this could well be the reason for non start. I've got to play catch up on my work from next week due to the back pain so may not be able to get much done on the boat until the end of the month

      @@alcboating3675 I know the frustration. I have a rare neurological condition called myasthenia gravis. It doesn't bother me much normally, but had a relapse in November last which meant going back on all the medication again. One being a high daily dose of steroids and immune suppressants. The steroids caused tendonitis in the ankles and wrists. The ankles bug me at night when I lie down. But use a screwdriver or drill during the day. Hells Bells. Steroids being reduced slowly and things improving. But there's always some poor bugger worse than me, so I shouldn't complain. Keep the Faith, It will come together.
