Zenit 12XP: A Mad Review
A quick look at another old camera someone gave me, an old Russian Zenit 12XP in surprisingly good shape.
Fun fact: I put more effort into the thumbnails than the actual video.

Nikon F3: A Mad Review (sort of...)
มุมมอง 7342 ปีที่แล้ว
What can I say about the Nikon F3 that so many TH-camrs haven't already? Who knows, but this is my perspective on this legendary 35mm SLR, which I have owned and loved for many years. Trust me, I'm a LOT better at still photography than I am at videos, which are more an exercise in public speaking anyway. Farking mad review matey! I've hit a seller up in Melbourne hoping to pic one up this weekend. Nikon 200D with Nikon Nikkor AF-S 18-105mm f3.5-5.6 G ED DX VR Lens for $275. With charger and two batteries. I'm excited!!!

I just got a F3 HP, an AIS Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 pancake, AIS 80-200mm f/4 and AF 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 (all in mint condition) for 350 Euros, a real steal. The F3 shutter was built to last at least 150.000 pictures, which is far more than 4000 rolls of film. For an amateur it will last forever.

They lie, the men who tell us in a loud decisive tone That want is here a stranger, and that misery’s unknown; For where the nearest suburb and the city proper meet My window-sill is level with the faces in the street- Drifting past, drifting past, To the beat of weary feet- While I sorrow for the owners of those faces in the street. And cause I have to sorrow, in a land so young and fair, To see upon those faces stamped the marks of Want and Care; I look in vain for traces of the fresh and fair and sweet In sallow, sunken faces that are drifting through the street- Drifting on, drifting on, To the scrape of restless feet; I can sorrow for the owners of the faces in the street.

PETERSHAM STATION OVERHEAD BRIDGE BUILT 1883 This Bridge is one of the oldest of its type still in use in NSW. THEN: c1900 NOW: 2022 The footbridge comprises a deck connecting Trafalgar and Terminus Streets, with stairs that lead down to the platform and the streets. The structure rests on brick piers, cast iron columns, arches and steel trestles. Refurbished in 1992 and 2023/2024, the footbridge has a concrete deck and stairs with painted steel handrails and balustrades. The riveted metal lattice work underneath the deck is original. The Bridge was designed by George Cowdery, who was a prominent engineer associated with the early development of the NSW Railways and Tramways. Petersham Station is heritage listed, and has been maintained in good condition. Over the past 12 months, Sydney Trains has undertaken repair and repainting of the overhead bridge, addressing metal corrosion. The work has been conducted during weekend track closures. Due to be completed early 2025. The brick structure, left, is the remains of the original amenities block. Above it was the original ticket office, linked the Pedestrian Bridge. Henry Lawson, Australia's "greatest short story writer", was was awaiting a train at Petersham in 1888, and was inspired to write the title and first stanza of 'Faces In The Street". An historical plaque celebrates this connection to Petersham. A Mural in Terminus Street , completed in 2022, also celebrates the Lawson connection. See photos below. He mistakenly called it 100mm 2.5 It's actually a 105mm 2.5 it's the popular lens used by the dude who took the photo of the girl on Nat geo mag cover back in the day. I recently grabbed a copy and it's even better than everyone says it is. He's right to show it as #1. It probably is the BEST (average, consumer priced) vintage Nikon lens that everyone should start with. It's pretty amazing. I'm surprised Nikon doesn't just keep making it. They should probably make one just like the old vintage one, manual focus and a make one just like it optically, with AF.

Is that an Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 D? I keep getting EE messages and can't figure out putting the A ring to the orange 22 and locking the pin or not. Either way, I've noticed that it's mostly my bad hand holding that nudges the aperture or sometimes even the magnication ring. Any advice welcome 😁

I've 50mm f:1.2 Ai-s and with my D810 it's very sharp. Also I use 80-200mm f:2.8 AF-D. This one is a solid metal and gives very good picture quality. My 35mm f:2 AF-D is as good as its AFS cousin but at a much low cost.

I owned the 55 2.8 micro AIS. My copy was not as sharp stopped down to F4 as my Nikon 50mm F1.2 at F4. I also owned the Zeiss 50mm Macro plannar lens and my copy of the Nikon 50mm F1.2 was sharper then the Zeiss macro plannar. So in my case the 50 F1.2 ( note its very dreamy, hazy whatever you like to call it wide open ) is my sharpest MF AI or AIS lens when stopped down to F4. Better then The Zeiss 50 and better then the 55 micro nikon lens.

So many of these extraordinary lenses can be found on eBay, etc., but typically the front element is scratched or scarred by ignorant owners rubbing them for cleaning, as you point out. Why did Leica decide to use a piece of glass that is "soft as chalk?"

You might want to try a 135mm 2.8 Series E (it's an AI-S too). I tested 2 Nikkor copies against it and it blew them both out of the water. Slightly smaller with less glass and was supposed to be a more affordable, lower end line at the time but it's actually a far superior lens than the Nikkor AI or AIS version. The contrast and "3d pop" is makes the E shine. The supposedly "excellent" graded AI copy was a total dud, so I knew it wasn't fair, so I tried again, this time getting a good AIS copy and the E still handed it, it's ass. Pixle peeping, wide open down to f3.5 the nikkor had a super, super slight edge in sharpness over the E but even still it looked FLAT as crap compared to the E and by F4, all the way down the E took every advantage. Equal sharpness but totally blew it away in photo quality in every other aspect. It's no compassion. The lower end grade 135 2.8 E totally destroys the Nikkor head to head. I don't think many people know this at all. I'm the only one posting comments anywhere to claim it being the case. I just don't think people thought to compare them to each other. Only reason I did, was I bought the E and fell in love with it and since there was a "better" version out there, I was going to trade up!....... Well, 2 tries latter, I sold the Nikkors at a loss both times too, but oh well. Least I know.

By far one of the best cameras ever made, even in 2024. That flash is more powerful than most top mounted flashes, definitely more powerful than all of Nikon's new bodies. The body is more durable than anything they're currently putting out. The CCD sensor jpegs hold together significantly better than any CMOS sensor you can buy since its release all the way to today in 2024. The only problem this camera has is not having super high iso settings in-camera. Never needed more than 1600 even at night. My only complaint of the D200 is I wish it had a fast frame rate, like around 9 or 12. I regularly shoot 1600 or 3200 iso and just run an ai denoise if I don't want the grain. But the grain disappears when you print and when you reduce the resolution for online use. This body wants f1.8, f1.4, and f1.2 lenses.
