I am the property manager for our Family Owned Lodge located on an old strip pit in southwestern Indiana. These videos cover my work at the Lodge solving problems. I also post historical videos for the benefit of some of the younger members of the property.

Time Lapse video of my backyard in Bloomington Indiana of the 29 hours we received snow from Winter Storm Blair. Thankfully several dry areas worked into the storm decreasing snow totals. We had 10" on the flat at our condo.

Flushing the On Demand Water Heater. Property welfare check and a couple other end of the year jobs.

It had been 7 weeks since I was last at the property. I've had a couple of illnesses and a cold weather stretch that has kept me away. I needed to Flush the On Demand Water Heater before we ended the year.
Last visit to Mow the grass and Mulch the leaves before winter arrives. Vegetable Oil for protection

Probably the last warm day of the year. I decided to mow the grass one final time as I also wanted to mulch all the leaves collecting on the lawn and driveway. I'm also trying vegetable oil this year to apply to the valve cartridges to prevent corrosion and mineral buildup. Put the oil into the shallow water pump in hopes of preventing rust and mineral buildup.
On a gray damp day I shut down the shallow well pump and blow out the pipes and winterize the Lodge.

With the season over and winter coming I shut down the shallow well water system. Blew out the pipes in the bathrooms and Lodge. Winterized the bathrooms by removing the faucet cartridges and putting RV antifreeze into the toilets.
Winterizing the widows and doors at Family Lodge. Each Fall we lacquer the window and door frames.

Back at the Lodge to Lacquer the screen window frame wood so that it is ready for construction. We also did the annual Fall Lacquering of all the Door and Window frames to help them hold up against the winter weather.
Log Siding check maintenance. Filling in new Log checks with Energy Seal caulking to prevent rot.

I noticed some new Checks (cracks) in the Log Siding. Our maintenance contractor was injured in an accident and canceled his Fall repair visit. So I decided to attempt repairs myself.

Spent the day filling in the latest Log Checks (cracks) that developed over the past year. Water getting into the checks can cause log rot if not filled in. I used Energy Seal chinking to fill in the gaps.
Is this the last mow of the year at the Family Lodge? To cut grass yes, but we'll be back for leaves

Visited the Family Lodge after three weeks not mowing. Drought and fall weather has slowed the growth of the lawn. This will be the last time we mow grass but I'm sure we will need to mulch the leaves once they are all down.
Work visit to the Family Lodge to paint and stain wood that will be used to make four screen windows

Lumber that I had taken to the Lodge to build new screen windows for the pavilion needs to be stained and lacquered before I can construct them. Made the trek to begin the work.
Back to the Lake for a Solo mow of the Lawn. Problems pop up but I was able to diagnose all of them.

Two days after painting the deck I came back after noticing that the lakeside lawn needed to be mown. Jobs pop up as I got started. Restacking firewood that had fallen, diagnosing problems with water system, and spreading some left over lawn fertilizer.

Bought the lumber we need to replace the remaining four aluminum screens, four more folding chairs, two more folding plastic tables, and paint to paint the floating pier and lakeside deck.
Back to the Lodge to mow after a three week layoff because of drought conditions in Southern IN.

The retiree wasn't available so I headed to the Family Lodge to mow after a three week absence. The Lake hadn't had any significant rainfall in 5 weeks. I also wanted to visit with my Niece and her husband who were visiting for a few days.
Property welfare check on Lodge after a week off. Small repair time for an easy work day.

After a week gone from the property I traveled to the Lake property for a welfare check. Found a couple of minor problems that I fixed. I cleaned up the area where the construction material was stored.

Fall type weather with cooler temperatures and low humidity makes mowing a lot more tolerable then in the heat. Our niece brings her class down tomorrow for a couple of nights so we cleaned the bathrooms in preparation.
Weeds in the driveway mowed down using vegetation killer while trying to clean the battery posts

Excessive heat day so I planned just small jobs, Adjusting the water pump pressure switch, spray the driveway the vegetation killer, clean the battery posts on the lawn tractor and transplant some Butterfly weed.
Nice day to mow after a break in the excessive heat days. Deliver some future project parts.

I like Brown county. Not much into Nashville too crowded. That ditch seems to be a never ending problem. I am about an hour NE of there. Are you local to the area?
Yes, it’s an ongoing problem. I would like to install a new overflow but the price is prohibitive at this time. We now live in Monroe county about an hour from the Lake.

Al, I am LOVING these vids! Thank you so much for documenting everything!! I just wanted to say…this video really opened my eyes to the reasoning behind demolishing the original cabin. I was so young that I didn’t really understand why. As heartbreaking as it probably was for literally everyone - it was incredibly unsafe. That thing could have just collapsed right on top of us! The new structure is perfect & I’m glad we could keep some of the memory alive as well! Thank you so much for making this video, it was very therapeutic :) Love you Al!! - McKenzie
