Thanks for discussing the cost of flying out of ROW. It’s usually worth it to drive 3 hours to ABQ because ROW is just too expensive. We usually just drive wherever we go, even the coasts, because it’s cheaper.

So we went $300k (25%) over budget on the bridge (simply in an effort to “use all the money”) and it’s being approved after the fact? And the council was totally unaware? And the public doesn’t know for 2 weeks after the meeting? Is anyone being disciplined for that? If not, why not? If so, how so? This all sounds like massive mismanagement.

The County where Roswell is in is named after my ancestor, Colonel Jose Francisco Chaves, a military leader there during the Civil War and later in Navajo campaigns.

I’ve never seen anyone have to justify making a motion. Generally justification is only required to show why an exception was or wasn’t granted in the case. For this one, the commission needs to state clearly why the variance was approved because the same standard should apply to all applicants and shouldn’t be arbitrary. But the motion is not part of that. If one commissioner made a motion and it doesn’t receive a second or fails in the vote, the commissioner who moved doesn’t have to justify why they made the motion, and the other commissioners don’t have to justify why they didn’t second it.

Any information on my great uncle Will Martin would be very much appreciated . He was my grand fathers brother he died in the early 1950s after his horse stepped in a prairie dog hole an he broke a hip . He was in his late 80s or 90s . He came to Shacklford county county to visit my gran father an another brother in the 1930s having traveled from fort sumner or Roswell the ranch was in between those towns . My grandfather was living on jackrabbit lane with several children between Albany an Moran Texas . Thank you
