Marquette Rail @ W 76th St, Baldwin MI (8/31/16)
Reupload time. I don't mean to get sentimental over a train video, but this one is particularly special to me.
This train is heading north on Marquette Rail's Manistee/Ludington line on the old PM towards the former Baldwin depot/yard. For years throughout my childhood we would spend summer weekends at our family's late cottage just outside of Baldwin, (sometimes venturing around the yard areas by road, shh), and only twice did I ever see a train come through town. This was the second and last time, and 13 y/o me was lucky to capture it on a Nintendo 3DS. We're coming up on 5 years since the cabin has been sold, and among the memories of dirt biking and swimming until sunset, the old railroad tracks will always stick out.

The End of the Junction Valley Railroad (WNEM News Report, July 7th 2016)
มุมมอง 17K8 ปีที่แล้ว
All footage is used fairly as stated in the US Copyright Laws of 1976 - This was a July news report I found from WNEM announcing the end of train rides, and the closing, of the Junction Valley Railroad (known as the largest quarter size railroad in the world), on Labor Day Weekend, 2016. It's sad to see such an amazing piece if railroading work go. For years I had made plans to visit and ride t...
Michigan Transit Museum @ Gratiot Avenue, Mt Clemens MI
มุมมอง 1.5K8 ปีที่แล้ว
The Michigan Transit Museum's "rolling museum" consist proceeds westward across both lanes of Gratiot Ave., just north of downtown Mt. Clemens, during a September 2016 trip. The train traverses a former Grand Trunk Western branch which serviced The Mt. Clemens Sugar Factory and SANGB (among others towards the junction with the Mt. Clemens Subdivision at Elizabeth Rd.), using an interesting mix ...

    Last I talked to the personnel that ran the railroad it was sometime that September 2016 I believe. The woman said the railroad will still be in the family but just not open for business. She never mentioned anything about scrapping it. This family is and was proud of this creation. I doubt they would ever scrap it. I am led to believe that this railroad is for their family now. Its private. No public.

      MrEkg98 The contractors have been in cutting up the rolling stock and lifting the track. It is all going for scrap.

      pmonkeygeezer i contacted the family a couple weeks ago. They said its not being scrapped.

      MrEkg98 I went past recently and they were chopping the locos for scrap with cutting torches. I think they are embarrassed that they have to scrap it all, so sre not making it public.

    Where did everything go? Was it sold? Was it left there to rot? Was it put into storage?

    • @gtwestern1807
      @gtwestern1807 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      404 Robotics Not sure, I'd have to dig around. My best guess is that everything was sold off as or used for scrap, or they keep it up as a personal family place for them.

    • @pmonkeygeezer6212
      @pmonkeygeezer6212 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      404 Robotics They couldn't afford the insurance or the bills, the whole place is being cut up for scrap including all the rolling stock. Let's be honest, it was a big safety risk.

    I rode the train in 2016. Certainly amazed with all the intricate details. Sad to see it go. The only other railroad similar to this in Michigan is the Ausable Railroad, and that is up for sale. The days of scale railroading unfortunately is coming to a close.

      Barnes Randall Yes this is being cut for scrap now big time. A friend who was down there messaged me today and said there are huge piles of scrap steel everywhere. I think they are just waiting loading out and trucking for melting.

The tracks are there, most of all the cars are there, and the locomotive's are there. The place is just not open to the public anymore, and it is sad because it was a big piece of my adolescence
