Welcome to the first project of this course, **AWS Mastery: 18 AWS Cloud Projects for Cloud Engineers and Architects**. In this project, you will set up and secure AWS accounts for the EpicReads organization.
Now, imagine you’ve joined the EpicReads organization, and they want to move hundreds of applications and petabytes of data to the AWS Cloud. Your first task is to start by creating an AWS account. You might think, "Creating an AWS account is just a small task," and, of course, it would be if it were for a personal account. However, this becomes a big project when you're working for an organization that is planning to migrate thousands of servers to this AWS account.
Once you’ve completed the account creation, as a Cloud Architect, your next responsibility is to ensure that the 100 developers, admins, and testers who will be accessing the account use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This is a security measure you need to enforce for the account. Additionally, you need to ensure that developers don't reset their passwords to something weak, like "demo@123" or "test@123." To address this, you must ensure that a strong password policy is enabled and configured within the AWS account.
Most importantly, developers and testers (and even admins) may not be aware of the cloud costs. You will need to make sure that a budget is set up and alerts are configured based on your organization's cloud spending. This way, you'll get alerted if the budget exceeds a certain threshold.
There are three assignments in this project. The first assignment is to create the AWS account. After account creation, you will explore the AWS Management Console, where you will learn about account information. In the AWS account, you will explore the **AWS Organizations**, **Service Quotas**, **Account Health**, and **AWS Billing and Cost Management** services. You’ll also need to ensure that you choose a specific AWS region and stick with that region throughout the project.
Next, you’ll learn where to find AWS services. In addition to AWS services, the AWS Management Console provides access to blogs, white papers, AWS Premium Support Center, hands-on guides, and even AWS events. Many people are unaware of these resources, but they can be very valuable.
