This is our visit to Jim Herzog's famous Reading Railroad layout that has been featured in Model Railroader, Railroad Model Craftsman, and Allen Keller's Great Model Railroad video series. We take our I-80 Freedom train to each railroad we visit and run it, with the layout owners permission. Each car in the train represents the home railroad that each member models real or imagined as well as t...

Ho Scale Crossing Demo
มุมมอง 1.8K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is an HO Scale crossing flasher demo using IR sensors and a micro controller. The track is Bachmann Ez-Track, HO Scale locomotive and an On30 passenger car to demonstrate that the IR sensors work with small and larger scales. The crossing gate is an old Bachmann Ez-track gate and is operated by the weight of the train. In another video I will control the gates using servos. The IR sensors ...

Tony Koester's Famous Nickle Plate HO Scale Model Railroad
มุมมอง 40K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is Tony Koester's famous Nickle Plate HO Scale Model Railroad that has been videoed, visited, and written about in several of the model railroad publications. I have visited Tony's layout several times over the past decade as my in-laws live near Tony in New Jersey. This is a "rare" work in progress look of Tony's layout as his layout is now complete. Enjoy!

This is the second layout we visited and operated on. Conversation with layout owner and layout tour.
I see where the Oak Hill Roadmaster Series 90 degree diamonds are going. In the mail Tony.
This man has the perfect image. A creation all his own, yet perfection.
I grew up in Veedersburg in the 60s/70s. The old train depot was recently restored and is now a museum/community center. It looks great! The other depot is still there as well and serves as a war museum. The old grain elevator that was across from it, no longer exists.
"The pile of junk that you see here is scenery." "A railroad becomes the world's largest shelf." "Hopefully you could see a little bit of it amidst all the carnage."
Love this video! Thank you and Tony. Amazing layout. The walking interview is a great way to see the railroad.
I seen Tony's work.. he is a GENIUS At model railroading great scratch builder.. this I'm sure will come out Excellent 👍
One of the big things i miss about Model Railroad and Railroad Model Craftsman is seeing railroads like Tonys and a few others. Thanks for a nostalgic look at his work.
When I grew up,had the Long Island, literally in my back yard[Oyster Bay branch],steam(PRR),diesels,S1,2; RS1,RS2,RS3,FM,H&C,and the C420's,Precision GP'S,FA's,F's,and every type of MU's,going and coming at the connections at Jamaica! Little railroad, lots of action! Plus, when I was in high school, got to see the middle division, and PRR main,to and from New York! All that packed in my first 18 years!! Tony Koester, just did it Midwest style!! Great layout, and yes,I read MR,and RMC,so his writing influenced mine!'THANK YOU!! Thank you 😇 😊!!
How did you get the old phone to work? Its really great 👍
I met Tony years ago(1980)at the last operating session of steam on the V&O RR. Place was packed that night.
really sickening when someone is a know ir=t all and just an idiot.... "i am the best"
It's fantastic that you have been able to visit Tony's layout.
A very nice video and layout. I certainly hope to get one iota of this gentleman's experience when it comes to modeling railroads.
My gate never goes down
Great Job. That is very creative
I thought Paul Scholes had passed away.
Tony has A spectacular layout. Thanks for sharing. I liked and subbed to ya
I think the "junk" spread everywhere made this model railroad seem real and achievable. I love the "cleaned up layout" videos as much as anyone, but to see the Sage of New Jersey's railroad in its disheveled state very satisfying. Good going, Scott & Tony!
Fantastic!
Nice video.
Tony, I'm so glad you decided to model a real railroad. Much harder to do but more satisfying. I 'm working on some Nickle Plate steam right now. Many good memories of Nickle Plate steam in Chicago. Bill Raia and I almost got a ride on a Birk.
Can you tell us how to do it?

It's funny, as a boy reading model railroader I loved reading about the Midland. Tony has such a great sense of place. Then I remember Trains of Thought talking about dismantling the Midland and I almost felt betrayed - until I saw this track plan. Now, well over a decade later I'm still giddy watching the progress. What a wonderful layout.
Tony is a very down to earth and easy to talk to guy. Met him at the NMRA National at Indy while I was doing a preshow run of my auto-rack train being pulled by Chessie GM50 (amongst other units) on the Miami Valley Modular set-up. While I was watching my train, the voice in my ear (Tony) about chasing GM50 was interesting at least. When I turned and saw it was Tony, well - just say I was pleasantly surprised. While talking about my auto-rack train with Tony, and it's details, it of course derailed and one car tipped (never before or anytime after during that show - LOL). Great Guy!
BORED !! OUT !! OF !! THEIR !!! BRAINS !!! PEOPLE !!! PLAY !!! AROUND !! WITH !!! TYCO !!! TRAIN !!! SETS !!!!
Ooooh, nice mod! I plan to do something like that with my old TYCO crossing gate. I plan to use a Logic Rail Tech Grade Crossing Pro controller with its' own IR sensors (drilled through the E-Z track I use.)
No helix? Seems that guys that have the space incline their track over distance and avoid helixes.
Yes....helixes have their own issues besides extra strain on locos etc
Oh man I bet this RR rocks.....
Parabéns pelo layout ...like e me escrevi em seu canal...Abraços Brasil.
great vid Scott! you have a nack for conveying info.
Nice content! About to subscribe! BTW, I think you should check smzeus . c o m. Ever since I started using it on my main channel my videos are ranking much better!!
Nice easy look at Koester's layout. I'm curious, when was this video shot?
10 years ago.....my in-laws live near him....I go to visit when I'm in town. His layout is complete and Nace Videography did a video tour of his layout awhile ago.
He looks so familiar to me ?? Great layout!
No offense to Mr. Koester ( mines last name is same but spelled differently... COSTA) BUT HE DOES LOOK N TALK LIKE FRED GWYNNE ( HURMAN MUNSTER) NO OFFENSE MR. KOASTER.... ,JOE
How long have you been working on that thing? A hundred years? Shoulda been done a LONG time ago. Hell, the F&SM has been done for years and that is no F&SM. SMH...
Care to share some photos of your model railroad efforts?
Great layout. Camera work needs a tripod or gimbal. So many great layouts and the videos makes you seasick.
These were taken many years ago...so yes an amateur at best....since then for tripods and lights for upcoming videos. Thanks for the advice!
I met Tony at the Great Train Show in Indianapolis years ago, it was awesome that he would stop what he was doing and talk to everyone like he knew them forever!!
Awesome tour. thank you!
quite a layout. looks like a tight fit in those isles. love the steam running.
cool stuff Scott! that is some layout.
I love Tony! Cayuga is only an hour away from me. I remember when they pulled up the tracks. So sad but great to see his layout of this line. Thanks for the video!
this is fascinating stuff Scott. i can't wait to get into this.
thank you great detail video on very great detail layout from Australia
Nice layout. Great to see a Steam operating session. Cameraman moves way to fast. Slow it down so we can focus the layout design. Thanks
Yeah I'm the cameraman....this was several years ago..I forget how long....I was documenting for our group....wasn't for "show". I'm doing better now and thanks for the advice!
Very impressive, makes me want to run passenger trains. Thanks
At times I do prefer passenger trains. When I go operate on someone else's layout I ask to run the passenger trains.
Digikeijs has much easier and less time consuming options
Since the video I've made plug n play options available that can be used with any snap switch combination. I'll be posting more recent videos soon.
Are any of the CMR team in this?
Yes Bob and Bryan are in the videos I'll be posting
